7.1 DRG Changes - SE learned nothing from EW

Hello, fellow gamers,

This is the first time in my seven years of playing this game that I’m posting on the forums to express my concerns about its current state. After Yoshi-P's media tour interview, I was in reasonably good spirits about the new expansion, hyped up and ready to step into a new era of FFXIV.

It turns out that was just lip service and empty promises. I should have known better, especially after they started simplifying Viper only one month into the patch. However, it didn’t bother me much at the time since it wasn’t a melee class I planned to play anyway. But with today's Dragoon changes, I’ve finally had enough of this class homogenization. Who in the seven hells asked for this change? Not only did they remove three OGCDs from the Dragoon's rotation, but they also stripped away what made Dragoon unique—it’s now just a Samurai with a pole and an animation lock.

SQUARE ENIX, this has to stop. Give us our Nastronds back and stop lobotomizing jobs.

Yeah... feelsbadman. I said this in another thread but I suppose I'll say it here too. My honest opinion is that its all just lip service just for the sake of giving an engaging interview (good PR) and to get the players off their back. They try to give everyone the positive impression that they're listening to feedback, but in reality they're just waiting for things to blow over and for the players to forget.

I can't believe anyone on the team actually thought this was a good change. It feels like an April Fools joke...

I never comment on job changes, I normally go along with anything and I've been a DRG since HW, but man this just feels real bad.

Those weaves were Fun, any time they weren't up, the rotation felt empty. Im genuinely sad.

Then stop playing?

What is it that drives you to come here and comment stuff like this. What are you hoping to accomplish?

Maybe they'd like SE to suffer even more financial losses after what they already saw this quarter. Let's get that stock price to drop down further so they have less money to invest into this game.

That's me. I haven't paid for this game since June and it's been more than 2 weeks since I've used my free time so idk why I'm still allowed to post but I'll stay as long as I can to air out my grievances.

Yeah I was exceedingly disappointed to see the DRG changes. Really don't understand why they thought the Geirskogul/Nastrond change was a good idea.

Just did the new alliance raid, the bursts feel genuinely terrible

Myeah, please add back the other 2 charges of Nastrond. Losing a Geirskogul once every 30sec was already kinda meh, but having the 3 Nastronds was literally part of what made Life of the Dragon what it was.

They came for healers, they came for tanks, now they're coming to your main DPS job. Welcome to the club.

True. It feels like this expansion isn't being made by the same people anymore, at any level or any facet of the game. The talent left a while ago and now the interns are running the show while the company milks the declining player base.

I dropped the job in DT when I saw they removed more skill than adding some without fixing anything else the job was already dead to me when they killed the jump for a fucking dash I knew it was going to die but that the last nail in the coffin it would seem why play DRG anymore when reaper do more damage is more flexible more complex have more party utility and are better designed

100% agree. It feels a lot like post-Wrath WoW. It feels like the game is being developed by people who don't play or care about their game. They're just going through the motions and delivering a product.

This feels bad. The big thing the job has going for it is the heavy focus on oGCDs, why take that away? With so many jobs in the game, you'd think the focus would be on having distinct play styles not just the regressing each of them toward a boring mean.

Now, now. They gave everyone what they *really* wanted.

Enhanced Piercing Talon. The most beloved of DRG abilities has been given a buff you can activate every 30 seconds.

What a time we live in.

To make it worse, it's not going to relieve anything button-wise, because the community will try to fit something else in its place, and looking at discussions taking place, there's talk of using backflip and Piercing Talon, or double Mirage dive in the opener. I want Nastrond back, it was easier!

I said this elsewhere but it bears repeating. While I normally play tank, I started with DRG and always came back to it. Now I don't even want to look at the job. It's a boring husk because they've stripped away everything that made the job feel unique. I just don't understand their obsession with making every job appeal to everyone. The whole point of having 21+ jobs all on a single character is variety. If you don't like how Dragoon plays, PLAY SOMETHING ELSE. It's just depressing that a job I loved feels like crap now because little Timmy cried and moaned the weaving was just too hard.

But I can't even say I'm surprised. From Shadowbringers onward, this dev team has practically tripped over themselves to dumb everything down. Heck, even FFXVI is guilty of being extremely easy all because "gamers want instant gratification!" That may not be entirely wrong but it certainly doesn't feel good.

Bumping this up because I did not sign up to having 2 charges of nastrond removed in exchange for... *checks notes*

Starcross finally having it's range increased and enhanced ranged attack that we never use anyway.

What a monkey's paw situation this is.

I like Monk, Monk is fun.

Mao thinkings this all the end result of Devs pushing harder and harder towards DDR fights. When fights become nothing buts DDR, all whats required is memorize dance steps and be mobile so can lob generics DPS at boss while constantly runnings. To make this possible, Devs dumbings down jobs so players can play what is becomings arcade-style combats-DDR. Is look nothings like traditional fantasy role playing game anymores. Is two-dimensional fights and two-dimensional jobs. When Mao first signed ups for FFXIV, Mao was not expectings game to become this. Mao gonna respectfully say...NOPES!

The insistence to make everything completely braindead makes me just not want to play anymore.
I will see yall in 8.0 so we can complain together about how disappointing the combat changes are.

The real Dragoon rework was friends who unsubbed we made along the way.

Where are the "more stress" they would add that Yoshi-P talked about?

The stress comes from the players with more than 2 brain cells remaining freaking out over the devs mad dash to remove any and all complexities from every job in the game.

Called it. Ffxivcollect shows Hilda's hair is going in the mog store at some point. The hairstyle that has been asked for since Heavensward. Looks like it was delayed for 8 years just because they needed to keep a list of emergency items to throw at the player base when things hit the fan. Enjoy making up the losses of all the people mass unsubbing while the company milks whoever is left by selling these copy-paste fan service items for some extra cash. Graha and Zero hairstyles are also in the files, to be put in the store.

Honestly, I don't think Yoshi-P is directing this game anymore. He is a PR figure Square Enix allows to talk to the public, nothing more. I honestly have no other explanation as to why the game goes in the opposite direction of what the supposed director of the game speaks of.

Yoshi-P says: jobs will not become more simple.
CS3 does: make the jobs more simple.

Yoshi-P says: we will have more rewards for players.
CS3 does: not update trophy crystals/wolf mark vendors on the PVP patch.

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Honestly just coming here to push this up, cause the other major thread talking about the changes is just arguing about TCJ.

I really hope they reconsider this. I've not seen ANYONE say they like the Dragoon changes vs people arguing about all the other ones.

You are delusional if you think this game does not run on life support and they invest anything at all into it. All the money from ff14 goes into forspokens and some garbo NFT games. Why would they invest in the first place, mmos want to keep playerbases not gain new players its incredibly hard for an mmo, a sub one no less to gain new players so investing into the game will just make them less money in total bcs the profil from it will stay roughly the same.

Throwing in my agreement here too. Nastrond having 3 charges just felt good to pull off, please bring it back. Nastrond isn't flashy enough to be only one skill, like Stardiver. And double-weaving it with the other oGCDs is what made the burst phase so fun. If people thought the burst was too difficult, they can play reaper or one of the other DPS jobs with lower APM.

As someone who unsubscribed after months of feedback, allow me to explain. People unsub when they hit their individual limit and give up. I hope this helps. There's no law saying you have to hit the unsub before submitting feedback. Additionally, your post makes no sense really because that user could be unsubbed. It takes 14 days to kick in.

So the real question is, why do so many people post things like based on massive assumptions?
