I only own a small house...but yeah. My sub runs out at the end of the month and i dont care anymore really. Its just an item in a game i no longer enjoy. Why pay any more sub money just to keep it? You are doing the right thing.
Pst... auto demo has been suspended for now due to Hurricanes in NA, so go for it.
You're not the only ones. My server has already gone from 265 open plots to 418 open plots after DT launch. I'm giving up a medium house, a mansion and 4 smalls myself.
Edit. 428 open now. People are dumping their houses at record speed lmao.
I'm considering letting go of my house so I can just unsub between anything meaningful. It's actually gotten ridiculous how stale this game is nowadays.
Have you considered that after playing the same game for 10ish years you might just might be...done? Frankly, I'm surprised I've gotten 11 years out of the game. Usually I can only play a game for a month before I have to put it down, no matter how entertaining it might be. Might just be time to pack it up and move on.
Can't speak for others, but personally - I am nowhere near done playing FF14. I love this game, I enjoy the gameplay, the lore, the world, to the point where i sometimes just log in and walk around just because. Been playing since 2.0 too, with a little hiatus during Endwalker.
What currently sours this whole experience, for me, is the wait for content that is not "room with boss", that is actually engaging and makes use of the max level combat kit, and the way classes changed from Shadowbringers to now.
You're not alone. I let go of my Medium some time ago. I only logged in to keep it basically. Now I'm just subbing whenever there is a good patch (just like Yoshida told me). Current sub expire end of this month and debating wherever resub for 7.1 since I've been excited for the alliance raid as an FFXI player.
I used to login every day for 8 years, the game outgrew me or I outgrew it.
Only for NA players I believe.
In a live service game, this is a sad fact tbh.
I've played FFXI since 2004, with smaller breaks here and there. That's a 21+ year old game and I got lot still to do.
Thats fair. If the game not delivering, then perhaps its time to leave. Maybe later new content will drop who knows.
With all the com about "going to play other games" SE seem to have forgotten than mmo players tend to be people that don't actually want to go play other games. until ShB, they still nailed balance between having farm/long term activities for people that wanted to stay and keeping it optional enough so people could ignore it if they wanted. But that's in the past, and they still haven't given us any hint that would say they understood that.
I can understand and you look like a long term player like myself. I have had almost 15 years of FFXIV and I loved 1.0 even the bad as it at least had a world and amazing atmosphere and something to explore.
I know the game was in a bad state I was there but saying that I had hours of fun and watched the game evolve. I moved with the times and felt sad that a lot of the good was lost and that was making it less like FFXI and more duty finder and dodge battle fest.
I find myself logging in less at the moment and finished some of the things I wanted to do. I always can find things to do but become bored now and also they really messed up my character >.< and they never listen to feedback on things like hairstyles (Hilda's) and never seem to want to fix the things that players are asking for where in the past they seemed to listen :(
I am still maintaining my sub to keep my house. I have been here since the start of 2.0 and I love this game. It’s really sad that I no longer login except to maintain my house but there is no content that I am interested in anymore and I can’t raid so that is out.
I used to do all sorts of things but most of that is gone or stale. Too few dungeons, no field content, relics… sigh… and the existing side content feels forced.
If I cancel my subscription, I’ll likely not come back or if I do, it will be a very long time, like many years from now. I am hoping that 7.1 does something but I am not holding my breath.
Once I am done playing another game to my satisfactory /pun, I’ll reflect on where I am in this game.
I don’t want to leave but I left WoW back in 2013 because of the same problems we are seeing now.
I don't see the game as being in a bad state but the story direction and change to art aesthetic in Dawntrail doesn't appeal to me.
I thought we were going to be done with the Ancients and Ascian machinations going forward. Evidently Emet's big speech at the end of Endwalker was more "these places have huge messes we left behind so you'll have to go clean them up now we're gone" than "these are interesting places to visit".
I'm not into the neon/cyberpunk/street gear aesthetic at all. I prefer things in the games I play to be more low tech and medieval/historical in appearance than modern/futuristic.
I have friends enjoying the expansion because of those things. But it's not for me.
Since none of the content coming in 7.1 appeals to me, I canceled my subscription after the Live Letter and have been using the time still available to clean up my inventory. I'm still debating if I want to relinquish my houses (which would mess up my inventory all over again if I do lol). I may be back in 7.2 if Cosmic Exploration releases then (and depending on exactly what it turns out to be). Maybe the change in story direction and aesthetic as 7.4-7.5 set up 8.0 will appeal to me. Or maybe it won't.
But I know for now it's time to take a break from the game because my past enthusiasm is no longer there. It could partially be burnout but mostly I feel like they're trying to change the game to appeal to a different type of player than what I am.
I'm with ya there op. With the repeat of the same formula over and over again, I've gotten bored of the game (on top of many other issues). I've taken breaks off an on over the last year and DT has been such a let down for me that my sub has now run out and I've given all of my belongings in game away.
The game would need to undergo some serious changes before I ever consider resubbing.
I mean, I don't like those, either. I think Azys Lla might be the most hideous zone in the entire game. The Garlean tech, Anyder and Omega I'm indifferent to, at least they're somewhat similar looking. Solution 9 is a completely different flavor of futuristic, though. It bothers me the same way the NieR raids do - it doesn't fit in.
No. For some sure, but to many its not the Skinner meme, the game just changed, the people in it and how they make duties and everything.
Just compare any ARR/HW trailer to the new ones. We're talking 6-8 min vs 3 lol
Somehow they managed to make the game larger AND smaller at the same time *sigh*
Potentially, though I'd argue it's mostly SE just phoning it in lately.
For me the issue is the potential for the game is clearly there; they could easily provide good content. The game isn't so far gone it's unredeemable. I still love the game, but SE would rather put all their money into their failing projects instead of bolster this one and it's starting to show. FFXIV feels like it's pretty close to just going on maintenance mode.
They've also got system(s) baked into the game now that basically punish you for leaving long term. Housing is the primary one and not one they seem keen on resolving.
YoshiP telling folks to play other games is just a cop out for their lack of content. He'd change his tune if everyone actually unsubbed to play other games.
Mao askings why almost exact same formula used expansion after expansion? GW2 has several expansions and then brought outs next expansion featuring complex mount system. Couple expansions after thats, GW2 brings out really amazing housings. GW2 always addings new things and improvings some old things. In FFXIV gets same things from one expansion to the next buts just with differents coat of paints. MSQs always has exact same pattern, no serious improvements of overlands adventurings and any improvements to housings or glamors or other QoL matters end up being just little bits here and there. Mao would like see SERIOUS new additions. Admittedly, upscomings change to housings, IF thems actually coming, is kind of thing Mao lookings for. Mao is glad for that. Also, Mao has to admits that adding new jobs is also good new content buts is counterbalanced by seeing old jobs gettings wrecked. Mao just thinkings SE has to do MORE and do BETTERS.
Thats what ultimately saddens me..i want to play and want to be engaged. I was a beta ffxi player and that game held my interest like no other game for extended amounts of time. I inky quit to play xiv but no matter how much i want to have the same relationship with ffxiv I've accepted that they are very different experiences completely and I'm also embarrassed to say i allowed myself to be subbed this long just to support the game monetarily in hopes of it getting better. Seeing money repurposed in other projects kinda felt like a slap in the face for being loyal and supportive to be honest.
It is completely normal for a company to use funds from one successful venue to fund other projects, there is nothing demonic about that. However, we know that Square Enix is not giving FFXIV the financial backing it deserves, seeing as it is the biggest supporting column the company has. THAT is the real tragedy here. If they reinvested more money into FF14, the game could become even bigger than it is now.
If you’re in NA, I’d recommend taking a long break while demo is paused before relinquishing your house. I stopped playing at the end of ShB for the same reasons, and also left behind a mansion in Mist, thinking I would never return. Well, I’m back now and stuck with living in a cramped apartment lol.
For all its many failings, I still haven’t found another MMO that I’ve enjoyed as much as FF14. Except for FF11, which is why I’m looking forward to the upcoming FF11 crossover. If they ever made a FF11 remaster I would tele Holla back to Vana’diel in a heartbeat.
I have the diametrically opposed taste. I'm a sucker for SF interacting with fantasy worlds. But that's tastes right?
I just find it an odd thing to say, since FF has always been about mixing literally everything possible genre into one, including musically...
I've never had a issue with the tech races they have added in the past even Azys Lla still felt like it fit into the style for FFXIV but the cyberpunk look of places like Solution 9 are a bit too much for my taste to work with the setting. I find myself just going there to get my gear and then getting out of there back to a most visually pleasing environment
A lot of us have no prior experience with the FF franchise. We came here and judged the game for itself, not how it compared to other FF games.
If SE has decided this game needs to be more like the other FF games, it's their right to make those changes since it's their IP. But any change to a product comes with the risk of losing customers not because they see the product as bad but because it has become too different from what fits into their comfort zone.
Most of my playing is autopilot these days. I run an Expert Roulette while I drink my coffee in the morning. Then I show up to raid night, mostly to hang out with the gang for a few hours. That's about it. Sometimes if I feel compelled to play more I'll work on a crafter for half an hour. There's just no real hook for me anymore. The game needs a good hook, like Legendary items in Guild Wars 2.
This is actually really sad that the game uses house hold you hostage for sub fee..
I made a legendary amulet from ranked pvp. The grind was so brutal. It forced me to play wvw. It was such a cancer experience that l Don't plan to make the back piece. l plan just to afk farm for gold Then buy legendary weapons when they drop in price, lol
They neglected to create social content in this game for so long that it finally caught up to them... But hey you can clear the game solo now every 4 months *confetti*
Funneling everyone into WvW for legendaries is probably my least favorite GW2 design choice, but I at least understand why they did it, and these days you can get it down to about four hours' worth of playing. I find that legendaries on the whole are much more palatable to craft when you don't obsess over them, but just kind of work through the checklist a little at a time while playing other content you enjoy for gold, which will complete other parts of the checklist. If you obsess over them, it ends up feeling like Atma from the ARR Relic grind, one of the worst periods ever in FFXIV history.
