An idea to help with the healer problem

There is a sever lack of people playing healers, espeacialy when you set the ilvl on your party higher it can take hours to find someone, i just a a simple idea to help with this problem.

Make healing gear a lot cheaper to buy from raid tomes,
Accessoires 1 instead if 3
Armor 2 instead of 4
Weapon 3 instead of 8

I think this would have the opposite effect. How healer mains like myself feel right now is that we are less than. If healer gear costs less than tank or DPS gear than that just entrenches the idea that healers are less than. Discount gear for discount jobs.
That doesn't help any of the healer problems. It might make them worse becasue it's entrenching the biggest problem rather than trying to fix it.

Not to mention healers that are still gearing up will leave the PF pull earlier, leading to a higher drought

People already have the view that healing roles are lesser value than Damage or Tanks, see it as an Adventurer in need bonus for roles that aren't played as much, just like in dungeon roulettes.

Maybe I'll play healer again if the change the way the role plays. As it stands its just boring to me with too much focus on dps and not enough on healing.

I understand lots of people like the way healing is now and i am not calling for change, just stating why I personally don't play healer. ^^

sorry, maybe its early, but I fail to see how cheap gear will make the role fun and engaging.

basically I could wear out my #1 button for ....cheaper gear costs?

honey... I am a crafter, I can already get decent gear for virtually free. doesnt mean it magically makes me cast Glare less....

Or you know they can let healers HEAL!! That is the reason most of us don't wanna play healer, we don't get to do the job of the role we select. I mainly play WoW now, I get to heal 60+% of the time in a fight and I am having a blast! sometimes as much as 80% of the time depending on what is being run. There is no shortage of healers because we get to have fun doing the role that we enjoy, which is healing and supporting. Only reason I touch this game at all anymore is because of that fact my wife plays this game. SE ruined the balance so badly that it will take quite a job to fix. Do you know how they can fix it? Reduce mits and sustain, buff tank health, make mob damage be sustained and high, still have some burst damage but spread it out. Healer problem solved, it will make it so tanks take damage but not be straining on the healer. It isn't hard to figure out.

I am more talking normal content before that stage, most would be healers drop healing around late stormblood as the healing needed drops off a cliff. That is the problem with healing. They made would be healers quit healing by taking away the job.

I dont think gearing up as healer is a problem. Crafted gear->done. Rest comes naturally. But yeah...as people said above. Healing just isnt fun when you dont have anything to heal and cant do your job you are signed up. Im nowhere a pro and only did about 30 Valigamanda runs this Expansion, some Experts and thats mostly it. Of course i cant speak from Savage Raid Experience, because i lack the time and ambition to sit 2-3 hours a evening before some bosses to perfect it (coming from wow,where i did some mythic raiding. 3 hours for 4 days a week just burned me out from doing "hardcore" stuff).
But yeah...normal content doesnt need healing much...spam the occasional OcD heal and else just your 2 button dps "rotation" isnt compelling.

I also think it may have the opposite intended effect too. If not for the lesser role feeling, then also because the player is getting to BiS way faster than the other roles. There are players who would stop running a role in certain content the moment they have BiS gear, which may make the green river bigger for the PF.

The problem seems to be threefold:

1. Healers don't feel like they get to heal enough
2. Healer DPS rotation has been stripped down to be basic and boring and not engaging
3. Healer identities have been homogenized so much that even stylistically they're bleeding into each other now

I'm a SCH main and I remember the old days, when we had multiple DoTs, Bane to spread them around, and then Miasma II as a DoT that doubled as an instacast AOE attack. You'd go through your little routine at the start of a pack and then spread around the goop, top off the tank, and then get to damaging. it was satisfying!

They tried to replicate it a little bit with the addition to Chain Strategem, but as it stands I'm tagging each mob with Biolysis as we run because it's the only way to get more DPS on the mobs once we stop.

Healers don't get to do much of any healing anymore, it fucking sucks.

Like it or hate it, another part of the issue is FFLogs and that it forces healers to do high dps because of perceptions. If a healer doesn’t parse good, they may be asked to leave, even if they did their job right.

Many players use that site to feel better by getting high ranks, etc. Once I was asked to leave a static because I got a gray parse on a raid, even though I was top rank in heals and kept everybody alive, at times, solo as the other healer did dps.

People asking for more dps, raid history logs, parsers and the lot that makes me want SE to place a raid debuff that blocks healer dps. That way we could focus on healing, mechanics and give the developers a reason to add more healing requirements or raid utility buffs.

How about instead of blaming the players, we blame the developers who designed the game.

The combat system is not designed for an active healer play style seen in other games (such as WoW), while requiring healers to contribute consistent dps or else they'll hit enrage in high end content.

Was the party eating dodge-able mechanics left and right? Maybe you were truly the savior of that party resulting in a gray parse. Or were you throwing out heals that weren't needed? How much was your overhealing? Maybe your co-healer couldn't even get a heal out because you were drowning the party in heals, leaving them to dps freely.

People are asking for more dps because the developers do not have the capability to make healing engaging with their current combat system. I suggest you find a new game, possibly WoW, if you want to focus on the healing aspect in high end content (but you're still expected to help dps when possible).

Why would anyone want to come home from a hard day at work and babysit a bunch of baddies while mashing 1 button 80% of the time when there are jobs out there that are actually fun to play? I don't enjoy healing because it feels like being the designated driver at a party. Everyone else is drinking and having fun, while I'm making sure we don't die in the most boring way possible. This game really only has me managing hp as well, because god forbid we do mana-battery mechanics or boss debuffs or let healers handle dps mits like addle/feint, and even if we got those things, the game itself makes applying them just super boring. Like, unimaginably boring. When RPR's shield breaks, there's a satisfying crunch of broken glass and then a regen goes out to the whole group. But look at what happens when WHM's divine benison breaks. There's no satisfying sound effect. There's no outgoing heal. Nothing happens. When it's for a dps, we're able to make things super soulful. But when it's for a healer, it's like they're afraid to let us have a good time. Look at what they did to astro. Spent the last ... eight? years taking away all its toys in order to appeal to people who never liked the job in the first place. Imagine picking the card based job and being mad that there are luck-of-the-draw elements baked into it. And that's to say nothing of how this game's server ticks make clutch healing feel absolutely terrible; anyone who's put bene on a guy and watched the skill go through and then go on cd but the guy still died anyway because the game decided you were too late knows what I'm talking about. Hell, anyone who's esuna'd something immediately but got to watch the dot from it tick anyway because le quirky servers, knows what I'm on about. It doesn't feel snappy at all; it feels slow, clunky, and just terrible.

I could go on, but I won't. The other jobs are simply more enjoyable. And that's not even saying much, because everything feels samey and repetitive in DT. There is nothing a player can do to alleviate this problem. It's all on the developers of the game, and at this point the direction of the game and the way it feels to play it are so far removed from an enjoyable healing experience compared to other games, that idk where they could even start.

I think Avoidy has one of the best descriptions of the the healer design I've seen to date. Not only that, I wish some of the devs could read what you said about the lack of feedback that healer skills provide, I'm sure they don't realize that we care about it. They probably think that pretty animations are enough.

so in order to encourage people to play a job we make everything basically free? this will only annoy people tbh. i genuinely am confused what ur thinking here lol. i really dont get this Healer lack problem. there are plenty of them.

try not having over 710 ilevel. if u want healers u need to facilitate them joining as easily as possible

To those healers that just want to heal, what is your opinion on jobs with little to no self healing?
I ask this because increasing the healing threshold would make DRK infinitely worse in comparison to the other 3 tanks simply by virtue of them having the worst self sustain out of all the tanks. An increase in healing requirement would also make any DPS jobs that lack self heals or other ways of mitigating damage objectively worse than their contemporaries. MNK and RPR are already better than DRG and NIN in terms of both damage and utility, so making the latter jobs even worse due to their lack of self healing/mitigation just makes the job balance even worse than it currently is.

I view increasing the healing threshold to have a much greater negative impact on the game than a positive one.

To address healing for non-healers in non-group combat, I suggest that they implement the full heal potion from monster hunter and PvP. It has a casting time so it shouldn’t easily be abused.

This would remedy the concern of tanks and dps while giving healers their job back. Even if they don’t do that, being gong back healing potions is always an option. It would give the crafters more to do.

Considering we have seen a 0 healer as early as week 2 and like every previous tier its hps demand is below what a single healer can provide... No, there is not to justify the kit we have

Even if you made the healer savage gear free, I don't think that would solve the issue...

How you actually fix the problem is that you make healers more playable.
With the way the fights and jobs are designed, you don't really get to play the game as a healer.

We don't really get to deal damage, and most fights damage from the boss occurs so occasionally that we're barely healing. So we're just there, filling a slot in the party.

Also, solo duties in quests as healer are also absolutely terrible as they're almost all balanced for a DPS role... Mostly just ShB/EW Role Quest ones are the only ones that aren't intended to be done a DPS...

required itemlevel is not role based, if you set it to 710, you will get bad DPS , people set the minilvl fot them, not for healers.
