Feedback treatment by SE

I've only started coming regularly to these forums for Dawntrail, but the thing that has surprised me was how much it is disregarded in terms of feedback by SE

I've seen and keep seeing feedback about:

DT MSQ
Wuk Lamat
Healerstrike
Game difficulty
Tanks lack of balance
Tanks survivability
Viper

The most shocking one being the Viper one because as soon as that change was announced people made threads and threads about not changing it, assuming they were talking about positionals, to end up with a change I had seen nobody even mention on these forums.

So my questions to you all are:
Where does Square Enix get their feedback for their patches from?
Can we be sure it's from here?
Have there been instances of people complaining but due to planning, things get implemented really late?
How does that all work around here?

I honestly have no idea.
The japanese Side is puzzled at times aswell and assumes it comes from us and well via versa.

Often Feedback from here doesnt get aknowledged.
For example the Healing Strike was a consequence of two expansion long healer feedback essentialy ignored.

Just wait for the next Live Letter. It is going to be the most watched yet.

I forgot to mention that the JP forums have an exclusive section that is missing in the non-JP ones, この装備を武具投影したい！！ (https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/forums/1266), where players can submit ideas and feedback regarding the Mirage Prism system (Glamours in the West).

But yes I also thought they favored the JPs opinions but then I read and translated this thread https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...82%B9%E3%83%AC

and they seem just as equally confused as we are, which is why I'm now confused

JP forums complain that they don't get listened to either.

Truth is, SE is funneling all its budget away from FF14 and is letting junior, inexperienced devs helm the ship.

People like to meme about the ‘JP priority’, but as other have mentioned by all accounts they’re just as ignored as we are.

Which, yeah, makes you wonder where tf their ‘feedback’ is coming from. Twitter? Reddit?

They do have the advantage of the rank and file devs sometimes wandering into their threads and directly seeing discussion, since most of those devs don't speak english and won't come here or to any other EN language community.

Same place they got the English VA for Wuk Lamat, apparently. The trash, AKA Twitter.

a friend of mine told me that the FF14 Facebook community is very vile.
I didnt checked that but i wouldnt be surprised.

This is first of all a Japanese game, the feedback and the likes would be mostly on their own hometurf, that does not mean that they do not see actual ideas elsewhere though, but the game is going to cater for the JP most of all whenever it get to it... just as a US made or EU made game would cater mostly towards EU or US players.

And that is the end of the story, and that is how it works, you got to have your base in the clear first of all.

At this point I just assume statistics are their feedback. Maybe majority of Vipers were just absolutely horrible.

You seem ill informed she is a voice actress since a few years starting around 2021 she even was in the game unicorn overlord.

It's very likely. The biggest issue with release viper is the tooltips were extremely confusing and wordy compared to how it actually played. It's very posssible that a ton of players were confused by the explanations and flat out played the job wrong and that's the reason.

They probably get a majority of their feedback from the Japanese speaking portion of Twitter which is full of the toxic-casual "GCBTW" playerbase, then the Japanese side of the official forums, followed by Content Creators/Streamers, and the English official forums being dead last.

I doubt they'd ever look at Reddit.

There are some interesting theories so far about where they do get their feedback from

Twitter, even if it's JP Twitter would be absolutely wild, but considering the changes we get i wouldnt be surprised

Even if they get the feedback, end of day it is still Yoshi P's design philosophy for a MMORPG. I do not think he has longterm players, that want a midcore challenge, in mind as much as attracting new players and creating a more casual video game.
I don't think it will change until player count is going down. It has been rising last years thanks to pandemic. I think it will go downhill from here, if they not cater more to veteran players.

That kinda raises the quest, why even entertain a feedback forum if it isn't wanted.

Well at least the Japanese side has proper Moderation.

Yeah there are several discussions I see in these forums that are just hostile as hell and really should be locked but NOPE. Just letting people stew, fight, and get worse! Makes me think they really need to look at the EN moderator team and maybe add more people.

I agree with that.
I don’t know how much sense it makes to change something after a month already.
Most players are only learning the job then.

On topic:
Either side and Reddit also say that they listen to the other.

I think it’s a mix of all as well as statistics.
Player engagement in content —> statistics
Reception if something is liked —> forum and co. The non Japanese side just has the problem of being filtered I would say, not even in bad faith but just language stuff.

Things like how a story is liked, I don’t think statistics work here?

They probably look into everything like they say while also just doing what they want at times and then just say “according to feedback” and for some things I think that’s the correct way for others it’s bad.

In the end that’s at least what I hope so that posting here has actual meaning.
