The waste of good character

I wish Square Enix would stop waste good characters.

Venat is awesome character now she gone.


Spena another good character a young woman to young for her crown.

Emet selcht

Hythlodeaus

Keeping good characters around too long is how good characters turn into boring characters.

Gosetsu and Hien was such a wasted characters

it is sad that they didn't get an expansion worth of character development and Woke lamat got one

Pour one out for my buddy Otis, died defending a respawning hologram who was the villain anyway.

They did the Twelve gods dirty. I think the Twelve still has potential in later story and beyond, but we only got 3 aliance raids about them and they're gone forever.

They've destroyed Crystal Exarch, one of my favorite characters ever.
I have no faith they can keep a character going for too long.

Venet was there only for one expansion I love them come back as students. It just waste to put so much effort then to throw them away aleast the exact got returned in some form

I think we had enough Emet and Venat for a while, on the other hand:

Fordola...
Ardbert (i know he's finally resting in peace but i do miss his adventurous company)...

Ardbert dwell inside of you the crystal exarch is part of scions. Venat and emet need a rebirth as does Minifila, the avatar of shiva

They merged and Crystal Exarch unfortunately is gone and we're stuck with junior.

We are hear to play a good story.. not to have bad characters that even hurts the minority image..

Why not giving us deep smart and strong woke chacater?

Honestly we were lucky to get a second helping of Emet Selch in EW and have it work, because his story was really well self contained in SHB. Venat and Hythlodaeus were great as well, and I'm sad to see them gone. I wouldn't call it a waste, though. They did their job to make EW great, and their untimely departure is part of the tragic tale of the Ancients.

That said, when you get rid of an awesome cast, you need to follow serve. There's been no heir apparents in Dawntrail yet.

Sphene needed to be .1-.3 content so she could have a dedicated arc like Yotsuyu. I don’t think we can take another 13th arc and the story flowed better when the last patches setup the next expansion.

Take venet and emet selcht sphene could be brought in same with concept call reincarnation it goes to emet selcht said hint that we may run into them again I think interested if the folkower/students system could introduce.

I wouldn't even mind if realm reborn ascian return after endwalker 10 man

He was too likable to live. I knew seconds after we met him that he would manage to die somehow, but that didn’t make it any easier.

Such is the tragic fate of all beings in this world: you must be boring, or you must be dead. Or both. (…Or permanently locked in non-MSQ questlines that will never get a continuation. Almost forgot about that one.)

This game has always been bad about killing off or sidelining interesting characters and not doing much with the main cast to make them more interesting. Pretty much every single character I like and had any attachment to is dead and gone at this point. Minfillia (yeah I liked her), Moenbryda, Haurchefant, Ysayle, Zenos, Yotsuyu, Emet-Selch, Hythlodaeus, Venat... These are all the characters I found myself caring about the most. And then some others I enjoyed like Aymeric, Yugiri, Hien, Gosetsu, Fordola, Ryne, and Lyna, barely exist anymore.

But after watching G'raha go from the Crystal Exarch to the catboy-shaped cardboard standee he is in Dawntrail, maybe that's for the best. Most fan fiction writers treat these characters with more love and care and nuance than the current writing team does anymore.

I think key to good characters is to use them appropriately and when needed, and much less putting them onscreen 99% of the time for a 40 hour expansion

If Shadowbringers was 'Speak with Emet Selch' 138 times and he keeps repeating himself about Ascians, Ancients, Zodiarks blabla on and on, I think most players would end up happy to finally end him in the final trial

Venat and Emet-Selch got plenty. Sphene IMO wasn't a particularly great character. She was like diet emet-selch with the desire to protect her people/world even if it means destroying others except the unsustainability of what she was doing made her stupid as well as genocidal, lacking any of the nuance Emet had. And she was an ancient ai not a yount princess thrust onto the throne too young.

One of the most hilarious scene in the game tbh. If there were an oscar for "the most pointless sacrifice", this would be at least a nomination if not outright winner.

Like ... the fact she immediately de-spawn less than 10 seconds after that, leaving behind the lifeless platform he just died defending ... and the camare even zoom into it a bit ... is just like peak irony.

It almost feels like the programmers building the scene was trying to tell the writer "do you realize how stupid this look?".

What I they need do multiple quest arc for let suppose they bought the emet selcht venet and hythlodeaus as students of baldesion. They have learn live in this world and explore it. Partner up with WoL they get explore the world not as those tried save it but as those unbearned by that as students tried experience the world they fought save. Usually one has little time to see beauty when you have goal that bigger then the world.

Yeah, it also lowers the stakes, a lot. The Scions are practically invincible now with how much plot armor they have.

At least this time around the didn't pretend to "kill" a Scion only to undo that 15 seconds to minutes later.

The next time a Scion "dies", they need to stay dead. It sucks, but they're placed in life or death situations all the time, death would eventually catch up with one.

Kill Wuk Lamar would be a good thing in my opinion that character has plot armor 10 feet thick

How is she 'woke'? Wuk Lamat's a cisgendered female who may-or-may-not be WoL-sexual like most of the other NPCs. I don't think anyone can even argue that the writers were trying to make her a 'girl boss', they knowingly wrote her to be dumb but well meaning and in constant need of others' aid or opinions. ꉂ (´∀｀)ʱªʱªʱª

I think it's more of a case they either not sure what they want to write, or have commitment problem into one single archetype.

- It looks like they tried a Shonen archetype, but was too afraid to give her any real failure, so it feels like a Mary Sue character instead.

- In order to avoid looking like a straight up Mary Sue, they tried to give her some small characters flaws, but they were all feel unsubstantial and inconsequential.

They should have commit, pick one archetype and go all in, there is nothing wrong with either if done right. The half-arse commitment give us a black hole sue instead.

I also think another issue is that the writing teams' writing has been, for lack of a better word, skewing more juvenile lately, with them trying to tackle deeper and/or darker themes and narratives but not really getting it or, like you said, not wanting to stick with any changes that would come from it, so they shallowly handwave it away.

One way there could done something interesting with Wuk Lamar is to a little girl that look exactly like Sphene. Is in fact the reincarnation of Sphene. The AI Sphene isn't Sphene it a copy of her memory and personality. A reincarnation which is what happened in this world people soul go aesthetic sea then is reincarnated. Let suppose for sake of Sphene her reflection is a dead reflection who already join this including the souls for that reflection. So find a reincarnated Sphene raise alot question who at fault with ai Sphene or the child Sphene should I raise the child Sphene or not. The WoL is an reincarnation of the one ancient who sit Anzu seat

Wuk Lamar find the Sphene the child force her be mother may reduce her involvement in your mission. Have her raise the child Sphene another way she probably doesn't what her grow up as AI version. Motherhood bring a lot of challenges it also would lessen her involvement she would adopt Sphene the reincarnation

You must really hate Sphene to ask her reincarnation to be raised by WL. And that won't work because FF14 is stuck in a time loop. They can't use a child in any kind of development because they child will never grow up. I do think they should bring Sphene back some how though, the authentic version of her. Right now the Alexandrian don't have a leader, and the whole thing where Wuk Lamat is ruling them through the proxy of a child neither making sense or sitting well with me.

Wuk Lamat is a great character. Being her retainer and following her on her journey was a nice change of pace.

i hate Wuk lamar more i would rather her raise by one of scion make more sense i wish they never made wuk lamar as the herione she worthless as character and as leader. i care about the happiness of my people your people happiness would better off rule by council with each able figure out together the need and want of your people you are Mary sue that need to go. i want ffxiv get ride of mary sue plot trop no i rather not be side characters to Wuk Lamar who if wasn't for us she won't have chance at leadership we aren't side character her we one that got her into power she shouldn't be get in way you can't save an AI of person who is dead gone. in fact if someone did with episode 1-3 of star wars to jar jar bink remove him for stories to her it would been a better story
