Suggestion: Vanity Pets

Nothing fancy or game changing. I was thinking a very rare drop on various mobs that yields a reusable item for summoning a vanity pet to follow you around! I think it may add something fun to collect and show off a rare trinket that you happened to run across.

I support pets, I have always wanted like a mini-marlboro as a pet. Also maybe the pets can run back to hometown to sell our items while we're out adventuring.

Only if it falls under solo-content

hmm I usually am not against adding in game content but aside from moogles and chocos it doesn't really seem to fit Final Fantasy. Maybe it can be a part of the housing system where the pet can hang out around your property.

probly wont happen se is too lazy to do something like this and if they did it would be like 1 or 2 in the whole game

to lazy? really? the company that has not given up but constantly pumped content into a game they are about to destroy to make way for the remake of the same game they have been developing at the same time.

I remember in WoW, I got a little pug dog for joining a lot of PUG dungeons. He was soooo cute! He occasionally would rub his butt across the floor.

It would be cool to have cute little pets that are just there for show, nothing game play contributing.

another thread said this earlier, but if pets are implemented I'd like to see it as a new DoL class and tied to our housing. you can raise livestock for meat/hides and randomly your stock can find stuff like ores or truffles or something.

there's the vanity aspect because we can show off our houses. and seeing someone with a ton of livestock can be like 'whoa, check that out'

i think that stuff will cheap content, a mini marlboro while its cute takes away the fear of those mobs, its like the adding of gobbues, those were felt fierceful and powerful mobs but now are cute things people have..just an op.

While the Malboro would be neat...I was thinking more along the lines of a Snurble or Ewe...or a tiny Mog that will fly behind you like he's trying to catch up, but then land on your shoulder and pant heavy for a moment when you stop.

Ah, yes "We heard you like PuGs, so here's a Pug for your PuG so you can PuG while you Pug. Or something".

could start off simply with a mini/baby chocobo. Mini-aldgoat, mini-dodo, SD-Behemoth. And of course a variant of the perky Pug to reward people for PuGing.

Do you have a problem with people having an opinion? It is my OPINION that it would cheapen the feel of my character being someone who's been through the world being destroyed if I had some fuzzy little thing following me. You're entitled to yours, but don't go attacking people when their opinion is different from yours.

I wouldn't mind having a Chocobo chick or a cat running around causing trouble for the rest of my linkshell members when guild houses are in. Sounds like fun as long as they are not involved in fighting.

really? to bad you can't. To bad you already have a pet, a pet chocobo. You can call em any time you want, HEY, you can even call your pet goobuu if you got him. And when you can raise your own chocobos, you can feed and take care of your little bet chocobo. There are your vanity pets. Deal with it.

Who's to say we're ALL rough tough adventurers? It'd be one thing if you were forced to have a vanity pet to perform your role in a group better, but that's not really the case. It'd probably turn out like WoW where people either: a) seldom/never used pets, b) used the pets and obsessively collected them all for the sake of collecting them, or c) used the ones that made sense to them (ex: the guys RPing knights would use the argent squire vanity pet because it made sense for their character).

Not to mention it's pretty one-dimensional to expect everyone to be grizzled and "tough". That'd be like expecting a guy like Sten in Dragon Age to be into biting kittens' heads off just because the guy is a powerhouse on the battlefield (when in reality the guy liked fine paintings, playing with kittens and picking flowers 0.o).

My point is that this is a feature that absolutely does not belong in this game. It does not fit whatsoever to have a little pet moogle or what the hell ever following you around in the heat of battle. Get too deep into it and you'll have stupid shit like magic boxes or flowers or whatever following you and everyone else around like in WoW. Keep it to WoW. No, I am not anti-WoW, I have played WoW and I don't mind pets in WoW because no one takes the setting seriously, not even the devs.

It has nothing to do with rough and tough adventure or anything you just said, it cheapens the game, just as he said. It makes the game feel cheap.

I would LOVE to see this added! PLEASE SE GIVE US PETS! Like a baby Chocobo or a moogle. That would be way cool. I liked the tiny marlboro idea too. I have been wanting pets also. Mounts and pets are what it's all about.

Fair enough. You don't feel it is a feature that belongs in the game. I'll disagree. I don't think it takes away from the setting, and in part gives players who want to partake in it something to do. In a way that doesn't affect player performance.

You're actually attempting to back your stance with "I can't take the game seriously if there's vanity pets"? Because the pets' presence will undo the end of the world, the horrors of the Garlean Empire, the hardships of Ala Migho, and will turn the underbelly of Uldah and Limsa Lominsa into the teddy bears on a picnic, amirite?

Think of it less in tandem with the grim events in Eorzea and more as a reprieve from the hardships of the world (the way some look at pets in real life) or a contributor to overall character, specially if you're RPing. LolRP aside, of course.

I don't remember the last time I saw people bringing their cats/dogs/hamsters out to war with them. If you want to have vanity pets that you can interact with in your estate, sure. I don't see a problem with that. Half the reason I couldn't take WoW seriously is they want to make you feel like you should feel threatened by whatever menace it is they're throwing at you, yet you have all these "warriors" with previously mentioned magical boxes, miniature versions of the expansions boss, space marines and all sorts of fourth wall breaking references following them around. This isn't Beverly Hills, we don't need to be skipping around showing off our "super cute" pets to our fellow adventurers. So yes, I am backing my argument up with I can't take it seriously.

I think chocobos will serve this purpose well.
After all there's going to be content for them, they will also fight in battle with you, and some will be for other purposes.

I just hope they introduce all the colors.

wow if we has a little moogle flying around us... even for a quest or event.. I think I'd kill myself from the cuteness.

I'd really personally prefer pets being exclusive to pet classes. It kinda ruins their uniqueness if just anyone can run around with a chicken following suite.
I'd like to see pets hold more meaning also, I don't just want that chicken on auto follow I want a fierce battle chicken to which I can control.

We'll already have the pet classes added in eventually and the buddy system soon, so a vanity pet just seems redundant to me.

I could never grok the idea of wanting some useless collection of polygons following me around.

Vanity pets, No thank you. Combat pets, Yes please.

You can have your opinion but I can have my char. No one said you'd be forced to have said pets. I never attacked you for your opinion but I did say it's my char and I can do with it what I want to. You have no right to say I can't do what I want to when it harms no one. Not everyone plays the rough and tough adventurer like you do. Think of DOH and DOL and come up with a reason they shouldn't have a pet. Not only this but being on a battle class and having a pet around when your not fighting anything would be kinda nice.

Do you think that they'll let us call our choco when we're in town and or on a DOH/DOL class? Honestly due to your past posts I don't think anyone will give you much thought anyways.

Mini darnus that hugs himself, bows then laughs maniacally, teleports around and shoots mini beams.

egh.... I thought vanity pets were corny the first time I saw them playing guild wars and every time i saw them in another game after that I was just like "-_-;"

It's over done, and with it being confirmed that our chocobos will fight along side us in 2.0, would it really be necessary?

I'm not opposed to something SIMILAR to the idea of a vanity pet, a collectible aesthetic something-or-other for people to show off. But, I think people running around with tiny pet drakes and goobbues would get old fast. Not to mention frame rate killler, everyone afk in active mode in Uldah main strip with their animated pets hopping and bouncing about... lol
