A question to Yoshi-P and the developers

In the unlikely event that there is actually someone managing the community, someone who can bring things to the developers attention, I would like to ask them a question.

Why is it that Tanks are allowed to do damage, but Healers aren't?
The damage output on Healers is incredibly low, and the kit we have for dealing damage is so bad it almost might as well not exist.

Why is it like that when Tanks, who also aren't intended for damage, have so much more than Healers do?



Tanks do not need to deal damage to cause threat/enmity, the game had Flash, which did no damage and just caused threat/enmity. For the sake of tanking, all their damage dealing skills could be replaced with Flash.
So that isn't a reason why Tanks have damage.
And if just having one skill to use for majority of a fight is an issue, then why is it fine for Healers?

Going through Solo duties is an argument as Healers also have to go through them, but they're even worse for Healers because we don't get to do damage.

Not always being required to tank and needing something else is not an argument because Healers aren't healing 100% of the time in every fight but aren't given anything for that.

Bad healers not doing enough damage or healing is not an argument either as a bad Tank or DPS is also going to similarly prevent you from clearing content.

because developers are trying to optimize jobs for ultimate raiding and btw they are doing it in a wrong way

I had the displeasure to run the healer rolequests, and like previous expansions, while they tried to make us do healer things, I was still clawing my eyes out of boredom spamming the same button again and again and again...

Doesn't help that the story was just so weird. Something something Team Rocket reference, poison that for some reason was never made into a neurotoxin if they really wanted to be evil, Esuna simulator, yeah it was a mess. Literally, it was just the Scholar storyline if it was written by the PLD job storyline writers.

Lmao? Tanks are literally 1-3% higher in damage than healers in single target if completely optimized and they're lower than healer damage in multiple target. So the argument of our damage output being incredibly low is wrong, its almost comparable to tanks and outside of single target its much higher.

So your actual argument might be about kit, that somehow the 1-2-3 combo of tanks is significantly better than healers (I disagree but sure). The majority of suggestions how to improve healer damage are things like proccing Glare IV on DoT and such which would do barely anything to make the role more engaging. Damage right now is a filler action because healing is an absolute joke, there is 0 reason to GCD heal outside of first-time progress and practice because a lot of content has two healers when it can easily be healed with one. The damage kit could be more engaging but making the filler more engaging because the healing is so bad is just a band-aid fix to me personally. They need to take more healing off of OGCD or make fights harder in combination with more damage options to force actual decision making.

Yea I'm sure that all the tanks only do marginally more damage than Glare or Broil spam.

I have a guess that we will see Broil X in next expansion

Jobs are boring so casuals can play them and super homogeneous so Parsers of Light don't pop a coronary.

For the former there should be difficulty options and the latter should be told to suck it up so we can have unique-ish jobs. XIV so far only caters to both extremes while leaving the rest behind.

I'm not done with the MSQ yet but I heard it gets better in terms of difficulty so maybe times are changing at least a little bit.

Evidently you don't know much about the topic you're discussing because funnily enough, that is correct. The worst healer in damage does 85% of the best tanks damage across all skill-levels of hard content. And that's the worst vs best ...

Well I can't test between all Tanks and Healers... But I have WHM and WAR at 100 and one thing I can go do is use old content unsynced as a punching bag to test clear times based on just raw DPS...
The bag of choice being Deltascape 3 (O3), as you can just have 100% uptime.

WHM with ilvl 693 takes around 3 minutes to 2:45, depending on how much slidecasts you can get out.
WAR with ilvl 685 takes around 2:20. Could probably shave a few seconds off with more practice.


And just for further study, MNK at ilvl 696, was able to get a time of 1:30.

I'd say the gap between Tanks and DPS over here is being about the same as Tanks and Healers...

The gap from Tank > DPS is much more significant than Healer > Tank. Your testing alone shows that, Tank > DPS is a difference of 50 seconds verses the 25 of Tank > Healer. We'll just agree to disagree at this point.

All of this is irrelevant anyway because,
Although I wont quote my source (feel free to google) since its taboo here to mention the site, there is literally data of over 35,000 healer runs and 32,000 tank runs and countless DPS (In Dawntrail alone) which shows that the gap between Tank and Healer damage is marginal compared to that of DPS and Supports. I think your argument should be that Healers deserve a more engaging DPS rotation because the argument of healers doing a lot less DPS than tanks is objectively wrong and provably so.

The thing is, there is a gap in gear between the three Jobs I used which is why I listed their ilvls.

For WAR, I have the AF gear with dungeon accessories. It's outperforming WHM with AF gear and tomestone accessories by about 30 second average.

MNK with almost full tomestone gear, only thing missing is the weapon, is getting about 45 seconds over WAR the dungeon geared WAR.

I'm sure the differences would be different if they all were equally geared, WAR would be closer to MNK and even further away from WHM.

I mean when you look at damage numbers healers aren't far off from tanks.

I wouldn't mind them closing the gap between both healers and tanks by buffing up healers damage... but I think to do that they should give healers more damaging actions instead of just potency changes.

One place they could easily fit more attacks to give them more damage and more engagement is the Job Gauges.

SCH does have Energy Drain, but at 100 potency it's barely an attack... But at the very least, it allows them to always meaningfully use all their Aetherflows.

WHM has to wait for people to take damage to use Lilies to get to Afflatus Misery.
SGE has to wait for people to take damage to recover MP.


AST doesn't really have such a system, but half of their cards are useless.

AST cards are useful in solo content when used on yourself,
