Beastmaster concerns based on DT story (minor spoilers)

Am I the only one worried after playing through the msq that they're going to make beastmaster based off that one hunter we saw using beast souls?

For one, I find the entire 'slurp down souls like candy instead of letting them go back the aetherial sea' disgusting. I absolutely do not want a job based on doing that. And two, what's the point of it being a specialty limited job if it's just your standard abilities that are just 'themed' on beasts.

My preference for it would be, obviously, a pet based job. Have some abilities of your own, but the bulk of it is coming from the creature.

A far distant second choice would be fully morphing into the creature yourself. But if they were going to do that, I'd far prefer they just import 'monstrosity' system from ff11. Make it it's own big new side content for people to do for a change of pace.

What do you think? Is what we saw in the msq a sign of what's coming?

Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be a mess that will barely be played by anyone and almost no real reward, just like BLU.

I saw someone say there were hints in the Viper job quests, but I haven’t played it yet. I also hope it’s not going to be done with the regulators too!

Expansion jobs can be unlocked prior to beating the expansion story. Viper can be unlocked at level 80 by players who haven't even finished the ShB base story yet. Blue Mage was introduced in Stormblood but could be unlocked by players as soon as they had beaten the Ultima Weapon. Beastmaster will almost certainly be able to be started by players before they reach the Regulator reveal, so it likely will not feature that lore.

Hey, BLU is probably the best job in the game. It's reward is getting to play it. It's janky but it has actual flavor.

Have 0 faith in Beastmaster though so I just have to wait and see what it is.

Considering how many Blue Mages there are, I wouldn't say barely played. Gimmick value alone goes a long way.

God I’ve always hated this ‘morphing’ thing (no thank you I would not like to be a freaking animal) but given Yoshi’s obsession with it I literally can’t see anything else happening for BST.

Hell Yoshi-P loves ‘morphing’ so much he literally made an entire Final Fantasy whose whole story is ‘morph into summons’.

So yeah, I now predict that ‘Beastmaster’ in FFXIV will be some absolute monstrosity that literally ‘absorbs and becomes’ the beasts, and not an actual master of beasts lol

This is what I assumed immediately after seeing that plus that one guy who couldn't fight in the arena. I'm assuming in the arena they were using beast souls to fight, but maybe not. Add in the fact that Wuk Lamat seemed to disapprove of their lifestyle, but then at the end lets them live as they always have?

As MoofiaBossVal said I doubt that we have to worry about any late game lore being relevant here. Nor do I think they would ever have the WOL do something like that with souls anyway.

This also isn't the first time someone's been like 'look at this, it's a beastmaster hint!' I recall during Bozja some people were convinced those beastmaster npcs were going to tie into a beast master job in EW. Didn't happen. It was just them adding a way to let us fight a larger variety of enemies in Bozja than just magitek machiens and garlean soldiers. And the beast soul sucking stuff is not going to tie into Beastmaster.

In fact as a limited job it likely will have a cap blow the current one. 90 max. But I'd imagine they would go further than that. Maybe 80 or even 70 for the starting cap so that they have a buffer to add to it throughout expansions without catching up.

My thoughts, too, turned to BST during the MSQ but at a completely different point:
Remember that golden alpaca from the MSQ?
When they pulled that out my immediate thoughts were "It's a shiny pokemon, I bet they're going to lean into that for BST somehow".

Good point! I didn't think of the level cap

If it would be a normal class, Beast Themed Meele i would have predicted but i cant imagine they giving us Beast Master as anything but a Pet Class...especialy with Blue Mage already Emulating monsters via abilities.

Blue Mage originated from the New World, so I would find it odd if the second Limited Job also derives from New World. That's why I believe it will be based on Myracidia culture instead.

I hope its a pet job. Please be a pet job. Please please please I dont want anything to do with absorbing animal souls to "become" a beast. I dont want to absorb no soul like the people of Alexandria or that weirdo Cocytus from Anabaseios 9th Circle.

If its just a beast slurper that will be a huge disappointment

If I had to guess, I would say beastmater is going to be ala mhigan based on lore from bozja.

Also went through the viper questline, there is an antagonist who is a beastmaster in all but name. No soul stuff.

You get a look at it with the fishing turn in quests, the beastmaster kid in that gains the ability to summon the 'strengths' of the fish were catching by eating them. I think, it's looking like blue mage 2 but you do a quick beast-egi summon that does a 1 off attack before going poof, as also demonstrated in said fishing quests.

Somehow I doubt they're going to make it 'eat animals to get their strength.' The whole reason blue mage was a limited job was so they could keep the 'collect weird monster spells' flavor of it in the gameplay without having to make it conform to standard job stuff. Why bother introduce beastmaster if they're going to make the flavor of it so drastically different? People don't want to eat animals and temorarily get power, they want to collect and command beasts. And they're going to need some way for it to stand out against blue mage. Just like with the garlean beast masters in Bozja I think this is people reading too much into something and assuming it'll be tied to beastmaster.

Possible. Though both new healers we've gotten post ARR have their origins in Sharlayan. It will all depend on what they want to do with it story wise I guess.

I had the same idea and horrifying realisation when seeing them give an example of using beast souls. But I can't imagine they'd actually do it as it's kind of a lore spoiler, right? I think it'd be a bit silly to have it be unlockable for anyone Pre-DT if that were the case so I'm hoping that, like Beastmasters in Bozja, it's unrelated to what we're actually getting.

No that is a blue mage. He even states hes from the whalaqee tribe which are the practioners of blue magic. Its also kind of evident by the fact he has the starter blue mage weapon, a rainmaker cane, and also those pants he wears are whalaqee-style.

Also the fact Pashenine only knows the spell Flying Sardine, that has to be a joke from the developers. As the most common spell to first teach a blue mage friend you want to powerlevel quickly is Flying Sardine. And I know its that spell because he says he learned it from a seabird, aka an Apkallu.

I agree that the whole use of souls in the latter part of the expansion is so absurdly evil it'd be comical if it wasn't for the serious tone of the game. I find it insane how it's treaded as no big deal but people who know for a F A C T it's denying souls from returning to the lifestream.

However, I don't think that'll be the way we go about capturing monsters, I think the actual way of doing it is how you'll sometimes get a creature to low HP in a quest, then use a item on it. I think with Beast master, you'll cast a spell on the mob of your choice that prevents it from fully dying, then as it lays stunned at zero HP, there's another spell to capture it. Think like ARK or Pokemon, or now Palworld, but in XIV.

What will you do with said creature? I guarantee it'll have it's own special abilities, and I think it's highly likely you'll be able to map them to a hotbar, think capturing a Cactuar and you get a hotbar slot for Thousand Needles, or a Bomb with Self destruct that you then need to rez. And you'll eventually work your way towards getting creatures who act as tanks, healers, and DPS from instanced content, for use in BST clears of trails and raids.

Also, I highly doubt morphing with your creature will be a thing, people think pet job when you say Beast master, not some creature morphing, as it's not a pet job at that point, the pet is just a means to get your character buffed.


Guild Wars 2's ranger class does pet morphing and it's so awful because it removes the pet entirely without changing your characters looks to me more like the merged pet. All it does is give the character buffs. I could see them re using a skeleton and slapping on a new skin as they're oh so fond of doing if they decide to do morphing.

I dont want to give away the Viper quest, but it left me feeling it was a prelude to the Beastmaster class.

Ahhh that makes more sense. I didn't connect him to be a blue mage since afaik with what little I know of blue mages they don't eat the monsters to gain their powers

Honestly, the only thing I can really think of about Beastmaster relating to the DT story is that Erenville is likely going to be one,

considering he quits his job to become an adventurer in honor of his mother, while also having absolutely no combat experience but is an animal expert.

While I don't hate the idea I can only imagine the people being mad at him appearing in MSQ as a limited job when it's been such a long desired addition. haha

Honestly I'd like to see them do not only him as a Beast Master, but have us with some random Blue Mage as well for some of the patch dungeon Duty Support/Trust options. It'd just be fun to see them get goofy with that rather than having them use characters with preexisting jobs in roles they don't actually do.

I'm kinda hoping it's like FFXIII-2 where you defeat beasts & it becomes a beast crystal. U can use that beast crystal to conjure up that beast to use a pet to fight along as you. In XIII-2 each beast had a certain role. One beast could be used as a commander (tank), another beast could be used as a saboteur (apply DOTs), another beast could be used as a healer, etc.

I am predicting BST is gonna be like mounted combat with moments where you, and your creature split up. Think about all the Lyon fights we've encountered.

I had been thinking there were two possibilities in game at the moment:

1. Similar to the Uq'Braax tribe. Raise animals to fight for you. Problems were Devs are really anti pet anything including reducing Summoner pets into "eye candy" and other classes pets are nothing more than DoTs and DDs.

2. The hunter using Souls of Beasts. Equip regulator in weapon slot, skills change based on Souls uploaded etc. Problems are the example was little more than a berserk Monk and apparently multiple souls uploaded at once causes physical changes and insanity. Also feels a lot like Blue mage only Melee. (Similar to Gau of FF6)

I was wanting 1. but felt they would probably go with 2. due to the ease of development for them until the recent interview where they say they don't want it too similar to other classes. Now I have no idea how they may go.
