Sex sells but this is FFXIV, not some Korean MMO.
...The mage coliseum gear is well...too airy...where do you even put 88 def on that thing?
To the designers, please kindly do the armor tastefully and decently realistically.
Thanks.

This is a good read on this topic.

Its a forum and Tymora is providing valid feedback... The post was not hostile or whiny so I don't know what your problem is with it.
It's not like we have a limit on how many threads we can start in a day...
On topic, while I appreciate a more realistic look to our armor I don't mind the occasional sexy piece. Now if most of the armor made us look like whores I might be upset :)
I share your opinion tymora, but players were clamoring for some sexy gear. Yoshi-P and co. deliver! I don't think they'll ever displace more plausible fantasy gear, like robes and plate mail. Consider that they did make this gear meldable so that players can buff it to the point that it's viable in a variety of content, i.e. players that want to look sexy can look sexy. Other players will laugh or roll their eyes and get real gear.
I disagree that this is not plausible. it does say 'coliseum' and coliseum fights were much more about entertainment than anything else.
Fighting women showing skin is more exciting than fully armored. simply because sex sells. and combining sex with action is very entertaining.
now with the exception of the mage gear, the other coliseum gear does cover the breasts, alowing some defense to the sternum and chest area.
being lightweight means you can dodge attacks easier, further increasing defense. Thinking into D&D dex was added to your armor score to help you 'defend' against attacks. of course defense behaves differently in FFXIV. so essentially a higher defense score can mean a 'near miss' or a 'glancing blow' making attacks that do hit you deal less damage.
of course it might make more sense to some if it came with +evasion. either one seems plausible to me.
On the side, this set does remind me of "Naga" from Slayers in particular.
Yoshi-P, please remove the things that thousands of people wanted because one person doesn't like them, even though this person has the choice of not using it.
I have yet to see this gear? pics? :O
I so agree with what your saying.
Although we have to realize that most jp are sex addict when talking about Females.
everything about jp is about SHOWING your sexiness.. even for a guy even if the guys are so fugly and looks very very ghay for jp they look hot, for na they look like fugly and gayissh
That's quite a generalization. Even though porn is quite visible (video stores, bookstores...etc) in Japan, we can't just conclude that "most JP" are sex addicts, or even more perverted than the average person elsewhere in the world.
On $$$ spent per-capita, South Korea is #1 in 2006. But it doesn't reflect free viewings so just take the numbers with a grain of salt.Quote:

If it wasn't for the gear's name I would have been somewhat more in favor of this thread, but since they say coliseum I can't help but excuse them for being flashy, since as the name implies they're "just for show".
It's like complaining about lingerie showing too much skin.
+ Compared other gear the defense rating is low on the coliseum stuff which makes alot of sense.
Nothing wrong with a bit skin here and there. I'm actually VERY surprised how many threads are on this forum of people who "feel" they are offended by a Half naked female body. But are fine when male toons wear it <3.
The mage bottom is actually comparable with others. 81 def vs 82 on felt gaskins for example.Quote:

Though if you wear robes that'll be nicely covered up.
And no I am not offended. I just feel it'll be sad if FFXIV has to rely on "sex" to sell this game like many Korean MMOs did.Quote:

Besides, "the higher you go, the less you wear" premise of some games is just plain silly.
Players wanted sexy -Underwear- !!!
Well I did anyway. We still don't have any new underwear after so long....
I think since FFXIV should continue adding more sexiness to the game. According to a translation from JP mod, Colosseum gear would have been recipes, but they decided to add them as rewards first. I would like to see more sexy gear, and some sexy underwear, later on. Hopefully they have some ready for 2.0.
Well first off I'll say I don't think this thread belongs here... but moving on.
At least they were fair about it and made the men's version have the same look. They even made an excuse for it in the name as to style if after gladiator gear who were often depicted as being scantily clad also:

If you don't like the gear don't use it, it's not like there aren't better options available anyway. I mean, I guess your probably a woman and you're uncomfortable looking at a character with a perfect body in revealing clothing, but you shouldn't let it bug you so much. I'm a guy and It wouldn't really bother me that much to wear the gear, I'd just get into the mood of it and mentally pretend my dude is a gladiator or some shit heh.
Personally I love the new gear's look on female characters... but that's obviously because I'm male... but I bet if our male characters actually looked like this:
http://cdn.blu-raydefinition.com/wor...080.jpg?d9c344 instead of creepy skinny guys who shave their body hair I bet we would hear much less complaining from the female community.
