Bring back Raise for Paladins

Since we're entertaining silly notions with 680+ pages, I may as well throw my own brand of crazy into the ring which, wasn't so crazy at the time they had it and probably makes more sense to have it nowadays than not.

Give Paladin's their raise back.

I can already hear the MT Paladin's groaning - please, unclutch your pearls and stay with me on this one.

Mind you, if you are MTing, Raise isn't gonna be possible. Situational though? Yes - 24 or 8-man dungeons, HoH, POTD etc where you're not the MT, or when quickly weave a raise in when all healers are down.

And since Summoners are most likely going to lose Raise for 8.0, A class which has traditionally had a raise spell, Paladin makes the most sense to carry the torch just having the option. Not saying it needs to be part of a kit, but a "Wholly Shit" button. No need for Swiftcast. Just... "In case of emergency, break glass" situations.

Edit: This isn't a troll post nor is it designed to be one. Paladin having a slow raise option on hand isn't a bad idea. It wouldn't be a requirement for main stream dungeons, savages etc.

Oh I wasn't up to date on the SMN thing. Hmm. Seems like would contradict the alleged reasoning for removing res from SMN.

Which I think is hilarious...they are concerned with homogeny and blaming SMN res? Yeah that's a huge problem. SMN res. *rolls eyes*

ARR 2.0 people will remember we had raises as Paladins. We didn't have anywhere near the optional content we do today. It would come in hand now in some situations.

Read "situational" - if you're worried about mobility, as I said in the beginning, think of it when you're in between fights or when there's a quick break between mechanics where you're not the MT. Otherwise, you wouldn't need to be bothered. HOH and POTD situations where a healer dies and you can't find that raise statue - that's where it'd come in just as an example.

And everyone seems to forget that it was cross-classed from cnj, and combat raising was a trait exclusive to cnj. Pld could never raise on combat. It was as useful as a Phoenix down.

If you're in a situation where you need the PLD to raise, you shouldn't be too worried about your DPS numbers.

You're right. I actually did forget about that. But that usefulness would come in handy post battle in a place like HOH or POTD - and there wouldn't be anything really wrong with having it as a cast option today. If you can get away with popping off a raise in a 24 man when you're not the MT then why not?

That tax would be dependent on swiftcast or dualcast abilities as per speculation, yes?

Only WHMs had raises in combat. Cross-class raise was a CNJ action and was practically useless.

PLDs having raise isn't wholly unprecedented though. In FFXI they get it at Lv.50 and they can cast it any time. It's situationally useful but it takes a long time to cast and costs a ton of MP.

If you're casting it outside of combat in XIV - again, MP consumption be damned as it regenerates in no time. In combat, however, we have a rotation that restores MP and does damage at the same time.

Sigh, who gave them the idea to remove raise from rdm and smn...

So not sure if you remember but back then you couldn't raise in combat with paladins, it was an out of combat only res since the in combat was tied to a trait back then.

Pretty sure Paladins had combat Raise in 1.0 (the WHM trait was introduced in 2.0 I think) but that was essentially a different game lol.

Frankly I don’t see the problem with Paladins having a costly Raise, under one condition , which is that content would need to be more difficult than it is now .

I mean, people keep saying ‘we can’t have difficulty because if healer dies it’s joever’, but that can easily be remedied by increasing the available of Raise. Every tank/practically ever dps already has party wide heals and mitigations, so if they gave more jobs Raise they could easily raise the difficulty of general content, as there’s be more ways to save the party. Currently it’s just ‘ignore party, solo boss as tank, profit’ lol

While we're at it, give bards back the healer LB3. All of their other utility has been stripped out or reduced to negligible levels, given them something unique.

I would genuinely love this, it infuriates me when the party dies and I’m a Bard literally just standing there playing the flute with tears in my eyes. I have lived the meme but I remember a time when we could actually help lol

It would also prevent BRDs from using the LB3 on single targets in parties with a melee, so please, bring it back.

Give healers and tanks a secondary dps LB3 too while we're at it, don't know how many times an lb3 at enrage while everyone but tank/healer is dead woulda ended the fight.

Wasn’t it only the base class of the Job Paladin being Gladiator that could do the raise from memory out of combat? I miss the days of Paladins flash….

No, Paladin took from Conjurer and Marauder. Raise was available to it, but only out of combat.

No in combat, though. Even Back-in-the-Day™ PLD raise was rarely useful.

Paladin did have an on-demand Stoneskin that was situationally useful, and it could also get Protect for prepulls. The raise was more cosmetic than anything tbh.

I'm honestly down to get the Healer LB3. Would finally give this class something that separates it from being the middle child of the rDPS role.
