Let's gather some links on how the trailer was featured in the gaming news.
Do people actually understand that it's more than a patch?
I think future trailers should highlight the diffrences between 1.0 and 2.0.

Sadly, from comments i've seen on a few sites so far, there's an air of "Oh god, this is gonna be a train wreck".
People seem to be a bit reluctant about giving the game another chance, despite it being markedly improved.
It doesnt really show the game has been fixed lol, hipster won't like it and will start posting in every game site on how SE never learns anything and FFXIII was terrible game and only FFXIII fabula nova will saves SE from bankrupcy.

The word map-system here sounds misleading. It makes me think the map ui was just tweaked instead of having completely new terrain.
Commenters seem to also not get what the update is about mostly.
I hope SE takes note and puts a lot of money to marketing to make people gove XIV a chance.
"Why is it in the numbered series this is so dumb derp a lerp"
They released a CGI trailer that shows nothing of their new engine, new game. SE has to release gameplay, this game is DOA if they don't. Opening your new marketing campaign with nothing more than snippets of your new intro cutscene isn't going to bring people back to this game.
Considering the E3 screens had photoshopped GUIs, it's probably not even possible for them to show gameplay yet.
SE aren't doing themselves any favours by releasing a CGI video. Their CGI-skills have never been questioned, so it doesn't really give people any reason to think the game has gotten better.
I dont know for you guys, but for me the new trailer, if i wasnt a FFXIV players, wouldnot inspired me at all. In two words : It S"/$
The voice acting sounds like amateur.
The music background....hmm not so good.
And the video doesnt show much.
It needs 2.0 gameplay video to make breach in the players mind... a cg video, also if epic, doesn't produce hype so much.
Funniest/pointless comments I've read are ones like:
"Still same Olde shite"
"They don't even provide a Welcome back Campaign!" (lol)
"No Free Trial to see how the game's improved?" (lol)
"They should just make FFXI High-graphic"
"Re-make FF7 for PC instead of this shit"
"This game was crap and a copy of XI years ago"
"Not interested, try again, Square. One day you'll listen to us."
"Square should really focus on ... developing Versus XIII, instead of anouncing another FF."
"f*** buzz and this time don't waste my time on this"
"seriously, why waste money on a game that failed epically."
"hey wheres the ps3 version?"
"make it FREE!!!! with cash shop."
This would be the sequel to the worst Final Fantasy of all time"
"I'd rather just play FFXI :-]"
"This game is garbage, this is nothing like 11 atleast 11 was playable and people played it"
"Who plays this?"
That conlcudes the report ! Off to Hildibrand !
Remember that it is the "First FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Trailer" as Youmokon said. So expect more!

Eurogamer seems to get it but the public isn't impressed:

Kotaku managed to post an article and not mindlessly bash the game, thankfully some of the commenters there were trying to actually inform people of the state of things.
This is just the first of probably many small teasers, the real trailer (with game footage) will come out during Gamescon
FFXIV is known as the worst mmo ever made, SE is going to have to drop 10s of millions on advertising to change peoples minds.
Unfortunately no one cares about XIV except us who are playing it now, just ask a mmo player who is not playing XIV what would you rather play GW2 which is being called revolutionary and it has no sub fee, or XIV 2.0. I would put money on over 95% of them saying GW2.
That is the hurdle SE needs to get over, and it will cost them alot. Which is what makes me worry, even top notch in-game footage if it is really good will not be enough to change peoples minds. They need to spam XIV on every channel similar to how WoW advertises expansions.
As for the reviews several have been positive, but the communities on those sites still are considering this to be same game that launched.
I'd have to disagree. A few really well done gameplay trailers would do a ton to help this game. This biggest complaint I've heard about 2.0 and the new trailer especially is that it's not gameplay footage so it doesn't tell people anything about it. If they put a lot of effort into a handful of outstanding gameplay trailers I think that would do far more to help the game than pretty much anything else.
Ad spots aren't going to save this game, word of mouth that it has truly changed from other players will.
Don't worry, just give it a couple months after it releases and people will complain about GW2, leave en masse, then move onto the next big MMO acting like it's the messiah of gaming.
If SE wants this to work out for them they really do need to highlight that this is pretty much an entirely different game, and really get aggressive about attracting PS3 players. I don't think the "hurr durr vXIII/VII" crowd is anything to worry about considering they just spam their opinions on that on every single article regarding Square-Enix, at least.
From what I've read on the IGN and mmorpg comments, the news got fairly good comments.
Its pretty much the same story over on Destructoid
This.
Most people either by playing at launch, or mostly just by word of mouth see this as an awful game, and have no idea about improvements made (and don't care either). Add to that the general hate that seem to be directed at SE this generation this game will have it rough, regardless of how good it might be.
I think the best bet would be to get new MMO player/ the PS3 crowd on, that can get in with a fresh view of the game.
I'm sure that if they wanted to release something snazzy in terms of game-play footage they could take a cue from TERA and just flex their "we're awesome" muscles. Something like a mix of... nostalgia/lore and battle epics -which is what made FFXI so fun. Awesome story and great battles too.
If they go with just footage from the game and some shots of cut-scenes with excellent scripting/typography to really hook the viewer in... pair that with some fantastic music... it would be great and they would avoid alienating any players based on vocal choices (because it seems many people disliked the voice-acting in the recent trailer release).
Like between these things:
FFXI Recollection ---||and||--- TERA In-Game Battle Footage
Anyway. I really hope the recent release of info brings some new players in. :) It will be great for the game to get some fresh blood.
Yeah I don't see Guild Wars 2 as much else but "Ooo, shiny!" I've seen such hype with Tera, SWTOR, Rift, Aion, and you can see how all those turned out.
FFXIV comes with the advantage of watching all of those come and go, listening to player's reactions, and building accordingly and towards their own fans.
Will GuildWars 2 hold some players? Sure, everyone is going to roam to find the game that suits them. But I have a feeling we have quite a few people eyeing AAR hoping it will turn out well enough to play it.

"Did they really waste money on that?"
"I'm not gonna lie....that voice-over really destroys the mood of the trailer, which ,by the way, looks fabulous."
"Pretty visuals, horrible voiceover and just a generic script. It feels like a Tera teaser trailer... all shiny, no substance."
reading this makes me scared of the incoming noobs that's just going WoWerize it, man This Hardened community vs the Clueless "remake FF7" community is fuck shit up a lot. Even our bad apples aren't as fucking shitty as these people commenting on the game.
My sister quit the game shortly after release, citing boredom. I showed her the video of the new trailer. Her response: "No... that just doesn't seem like something I want to play sorry."
The voice acting in that new trailer is embarrassing. Sorry Yoshi-P.
I think it's going to be up to the Alpha/Beta players to sell FFXIV, to be honest. If FFXI is any indication, we know how to do gameplay trailers better than they do, but I'm open to being surprised.
I've sent the trailer to several people who quit game/weren't interested in 1.0. I've gotten no responses.
It's a pretty uphill battle looks like.
i think gameplay videos are coming up eventually. people just gotta be a lil more patient. they just decided to bring that trailer out first. i think voice acting isnt too bad and background music is good.
yeah we need a gameplay video 100% to convince the masses
This is just a very small teaser, when Gamescon hits we'll must likely be flooded with gameplay footage and a real full trailer.
From SE's point of view they probably don't want to advertise 2.0 untill its almost out otherwise people will buy the current version and complain
Maybe a Demo?
well with GW2 coming out in Aug and pandaland coming out in September we need a good punch to get this game through or we might have to depend on china to keep this game afloat.
and besides who gives a crap about the voice in that small trailer. its just some guy who tells us wuts going on in there i didnt hear any character talk.
Ya know what we need? we need Angryjoe to try the game out in 2.0 and give his honest MMO gamer opinion to his fanbase. Sites like IGN have a poor reputation amongst gamers at large anyways, need some of the independant but still known reviewers on things.
