Dragoons and Controllers

With the changes of buttons*Fang and Claw and*Wheeling Thrust, the button layout for controllers has become insanely hard.* *This means dragoons have to have 5 dedicated buttons for each combo not counting none global cooldowns and other requirements.* This affects your ability to use the joysticks and move during your combos for those that dont have the dexterity to hold the controller in a claw formation, or placing the* controller*on a table to use it.

Please fix dragoon as I can't*use keyboard and mouse (like everyone is bound to say it works fine on keyboard and mouse)* or those people that just leave half the dragoons abilities off there controller or have to hit 5 buttons between each GCD just to enter the next GCD for the basic combo.*

I wish they would copy of the PVP combo system where it flips from one ability to the next since there AOE rotation is the same buttons reducing to 1 button on the bar would be great using the PVP combo system.

I've not run into this issue as I have part of the combo on the R1 cross and the rest on the L1 cross in the same setting making it to where I can still freely use Joysticks and the only real difference is if I'm hitting R1 or L1 during the rotation. The most important weaves I have also in the same L1 cross while other weaves are on spots where they aren't all that impeding. Not sure I've had to do that Claw maneuver on Drg much at all compared to a couple other jobs with busy rotations such as Nin, Vpr, sam, or mnk.

Agreed with previous poster, I have no issue with DRG on controller. Part of why I main it is because it's one of the best busy melee for controller. You may want to give playing with the rotation on a dummy for a while a go and feeling out the opener as you rock between the triggers, I ended up with a very comfy arrangement that way that flows very well.

Maybe post your hotbar layout? I use set 1-2 for single target and 3-4 for multi-target and have R1 flip between the two for most jobs.

For DRG I have the rear combo on the L2 set and the flank combo on the R2 set

Then just have the aoe combo over the first three of the flank combo for multi-target. I tend to roll over to/from it with Raiden Thrust/Draconian Fury so I keep the rest of the single target there to do that smoothly. (Don't mind the extra star diver on set 4 that's where it used to be in EW)

Dragoon on controller seems to work best with some duplication or parallel buttons across hotbars.

I have the first four buttons of combo A on the top R2 hotbar; parallel underneath on R2-L2 I have the first four of combo B. (The first step is duplicated.)

Step four of one combo is step five of the other, so at that point I switch to the other combo, and from there I'm on the correct tab to launch straight into the other combo.

Bar 1 is single target, buffs, and movement.

I start our DRG combo with the first hit on the right then roll to the left for the Dot side. This is so I can easily weave using double triggers to pop to Bar 2 using the standard opener. Second half of the combo continues back on the right trigger before the last two hits on the Left once more. When we're not weaving our GCD is so slow it's hard to miss the combo with the buttons all going shiney these days.

I keep our single target GCDs on the letter(shapes) pad as much as possible so I can move while maintaining gcd roll. The bar below is for visibility of cooldowns, the two big ones on the side are the oGCDs that convert for follow ups for extra reminder not to waste them. Since you only need AOE in dungeons and such I don't worry about them and movement as much. Movement is more an issue with High-end where you have to adjust quick for mechanics. Mobs are slow.

It takes a little practice but I found this gave me a pretty consistent rocking back and forth kind of feel to my bars and muscle memory builds for the weaves where you don't have to think about how to hit them after a while. No duplicates needed and I can fit everything on two bars without the wonkiness of the double tap bars which I feel are less ideal when I'm doing High-end stuff.

Edit* I said no duplicates needed forgetting that I have two Giers on bar two, which was a holdover from when High Jump and Mirage needed two buttons. The two Geirs were for ease of using the 3 Nast stacks we no longer have... I had an extra button space and used it but it wasn't 'necessary' just useful.

That would be a option and is, how caster are doing there thing (and Viper).
But personaly, wouldnt i want this that much.
It can become boring to press allways the same 1-2 Buttons for most of the time. And is the reason, why i want a 1-2-3 combo system for the blm (fire1 send a bolt of fire to the target and spread after the hit, fire 3 take this flames, increasw the power and let them raise into the sky, where fire 4 collect the flame to a big ball again and send it to the ground and despair take the rest energy to create a last flame pillar again, that not even bones are left^^).

But its true, that the combo or the drg is to long. And, that they maybe could fuse the last 3 skills together to one button.

I'm not against providing options like the stacking buttons we can enable as needed. I think they work well for the oGCDs. For people who like hitting 1-1-1-1-1 vs 1-2-3 I guess they could let you toggle it but I don't think they should build the job around that.

For myself I think I'd find keeping track of weaves between the GCDs bit more difficult with combo buttons as I tend to mash things a bit in raid when I'm trying to catch things before snapshots. Probably something I could get used to if I had to but I will say I tried Viper and the combo buttons make the rotation feel less clear to me. Buttons light up and I hit them but when you get options to split the final attacks it's a bit like.. which way should I go when? Which one did I hit before or which one am I on now? They're in the same place. I'm not seeing the pattern or why to it and the tooltips are not super helpful to me which being wordy and follwing similarly named buffs... With the combo buttons all my attacks feel even more like visual mush.

If people want a combo button Job Viper exists now. I think it's ok that we have jobs that function differently from each other and don't need everyone to like every job the same amount. I dislike playing casters for a variety of reasons but I don't want to take those away from people who enjoy them just because I still play them casually. People have mains for a reason.

Yeah but that's the cool thing, for the autocombos we have (in PvE), we can always manually un-combo them if we prefer that. Best of both worlds, everyone can pick what they're more comfortable with.

I've not run into this issue and I've been maining DRG since HW on controller. I actually find DRG easy to play on controller while still maintaining full control over my joysticks, it's one of the main reasons I like it tbh. It may just be your layout that needs an adjustment.
