Where is the rush in for Astro?

I'm not trying to be rude I play each healer role and love and played astro since heavensward when it use to be sect healer but the no gap closer while white mage gets one. sage has one and scholar has the speed ability... I kept dying in a dungeon because of a mechanic that went off to fast for me to sprint that would have helped if I could leap ahead a few yalms or teleport to a teammate.

Comparing white mage to astro feeeels like an infected wound I would not try to assert into this kind of argument. Astro has so much over white mages right now its not funny. I feel bad for people who want to white mage but find its only the most played healer because the count is taking in solo people who enjoy the aesthetics. In actual duties and dungeons white mage is the least I actually see.

I'm sorry but a lot of jobs don't have a gap closer or dash either. Are you arguing for everybody to get one? Or just AST specifically?

For everyone not just ast to get one Even if it's a zero damage gap closer also I love how a lot of people have complained about in game but forbid someone post it here lol

I actually never noticed that AST could use one. I've been playing fine without it, but now that I've seen some people bring it up, it would be fun to have. Not necessary for me personally, but I can see why some people would want it.

I mean don't worry, at some point you'll have one on the job anyway. The first and only tank that had one in HW was DRK with plunge, then they added one to WAR in SB, and one for PLD in ShB, because people pointed fingers at DRK and said "It has one, why can't I have one too??? My job is unplayable!"

And for tanks they at least had the excuse that they're melee...

Well damn, I should start preparing for BRD and MCH to get theirs too I guess.

To apply the fantasy of astro as a time mage add a move speed buff like scholar

Honestly for Astro I think something like reapers movement options would suit it well with the whole time mage aspect it sort of has.
That or maybe a CD that gives it a sprint/movement speed buff when it needs it, It does seem that healers will have to move more often then EW in dungeons at least.

Better yet, give AST a unique move tool with a "Rewind" ability that let's you teleport back to the place you were a few seconds ago. Alternatively let them place down like a sort of Leyline which they can then teleport to.

Astro could be black mage but healer.. I don't mind that but give them hard cast too

Easiest answer would be to add a movement speed buff to Lightspeed.

I’m not sure why Astrologian needs a gap closer? Like what would purpose would it serve?

Sage has theirs for rapid repositioning to use its melee range attack (Phlegma), White Mages again is likely for rapid repositioning before Cure III / Holy.
Astrologian doesn’t have any abilities it would justifiably have a gap closer for? I mean, the reasons Sage/White Mage have them are flimsy enough.

As for dying because your job didn’t have a gap closer, I know the devs can be bad at balancing but even I don’t think they’re that bad lol. There is no content in this game that cannot be done without a gap closer, otherwise Scholars, Machinists and the few other jobs without gap closers (if there even are any) would be completely unusable in said content.

I died a bunch as Scholar on the first boss of the level 99 dungeon. I even went in with trusts and managed to get killed a bunch of times lol, they practically give you the answers. There’s nothing wrong or shameful with not being able to immediately do something the first time you encounter it. Just keep trying and eventually you will get it; asking for abilities that do the job for you isn’t going to help in the long-run

Astro is not a time mage.. Associating gravity to the Astrologian as a time mage is thematically inaccurate. We are Seers who use astral signs to peer into future events. Looking through a time line and Being able to pre-empt the event with spells err. Oh nm Astro is a time mage in everyone's eyes. But mechanically Astrologian is miles ahead of white mage unless the white mage gets its identity back as being the strongest offensive healer in the game astro does need anything else. Its already the best healer support in the game and even though the shield abilities are based around cooldowns the astro is THE meta healer. Astro and Scholar are the kings of the healing court. I believe the error SE has is looking at total population of a job used to determine its value in the hierarchy of the game. White mage is dominant because its well known. Well established and probably what most casual healers go to. In the meta and rankings though Astrologian is out performing so please SE evaluate based on what a job really needs in how many people play in actual content and not just based on population numbers.

Seconding this. Stop the homogenization. Not every class needs the same tools. You like a specific tool on a job, go play that job.

Dungeon mechanic are shown way ahead of time.

You seem to have the DNC syndrome, because you're used to quick mobility tool, you do not pay attention to the mechanic and just move at the last second, hence when playing a job with no special mobility, you get wrecked.

There's currently no dungeon mechanic where a quick dash can make an actual difference. They're all presented several seconds before hand allowing you to preplace yourself in a manner that would only require a slight sidestep to avoid.
For the few bosses which require faster reaction (like the tentacle thing with the + and O) dashes are still quite optional.

Even bosses which "trick" you like the last boss of Neo Alexandria with the blade going left/right (reconfiguration or something) gives you something like 2 gcd to adapt which is a lot.

It's not really a "get gud" but rather "stop waiting". The boss tells you way in advance where it's gonna strike, if you look 1s before it does no wonder you get hit.
The increased the pace and difficulty of dungeons. I don't believe they're particularly hard, but they are more punishing if you don't pay attention, you don't have 5s to move once the ground aoe pop, you have 1s to adapt. You still however have those 5-10s, it's just that they aren't "red marker on the ground" anymore. You need to look at the boss itself.

You can't use this as a counter arguement when it's this saturated. When 75% of the jobs have something and you don't, it's just stupid, this is why you don't let the arms race happen and this is why you don't literally do **nothing** with healer game design for 5 years.

Coming in like "TEEHEE! LOOK YOU WANT THE HOMOGENIZATION" is really silly in this instance. Again, reminder that the dev team talked about a healer rework that never happened then proceeded to not even look at the role for half a decade, even when designing a "wow! new healer" after not having one since HW, they just put LEDs on Scholar and took its bug away

Only SCH/AST/MCH don't have one. Pretty soon they will too at this rate.

Sprint, Slidecasting, Macro, & Swiftcast has been sufficient. Sometimes throwing an aspected benefic on tank too helps if you want to keep that uptime.

I don’t think AST needs anymore gapclosers/mobility tools. They’re soon getting charged Lightspeed, too.

Making lightspeed useable more than just for burst windows would certainly do wonders for astro movement. Not that astro needs it though.

They will get a time skip dash in 8.0 to go with "job identity"

I wish we could not wish for jobs to be more homogeneous. Let jobs be different.

The least mobile right now is SCH. If you want to minimize GCD loss, you want to move with swiftcast, Biolysis and Broil + slidecast.

The most mobile is SCH, because you make your GCD roll as long as you want and move from north to south, but the cost is potency.

Every healer have their own niche when it comes to mobility.
AST will be lightspeed. Wasn't really a mobility tool so far because of the insane weave festival it was during burst.

Otherwise, even without all those tools, you can still move perfectly without dying or losing DPS most of the time.
You just have a to pause and watch cast bar.
