Blessed Battlemage. Always a fan of metal armour on jobs that usually don't use it.
Healers can get some good heavy armour sets too, the credendum series provides a good baseline.
Meanwhile Golbez and Exdeath...
Yoshi P has no problem with Tanks in swimsuits however.
I've always liked the idea of mages and healers in heavier armor--no reason why they shouldn't have any protection other than a little cloak.
I get a lot of mileage out of the Crystarium Gauntlets and Greaves.
Also the Legacy Warrior set from the Power Rangers summer event. It's usable on all classes.
Which one of these looks more like a Summoner set? (apologies for low quality I don't actually own these pieces)

One of these is a Ninja outfit, because Ninjas are famous for their horned masks, the glam restrictions are nonsense. You know what will be allowed though... this will likely be a valid Viper set (Rainbow X of Scouting, not AF gear)

behold, A confusing glam concept:

Avert your eyes, lest ye be driven mad upon its thematic inconsistency!
The 2nd Nier sets differentiate themselves between melee and tank by how rolled up the sleeves are.
I think the era of job recognition through armor sets has long since ended
I don't even think it's about job identity, I think Yoshi-P just doesn't like Black Mages in plate armor specifically.
He said the exact same thing in 2016 (near the bottom)
We've had bikini tanks and caster robes for tanks for as long as we've had glamour. Now we've got job icons you can have display next to people's names to show what job they are. Confusion about what job someone is not a valid reason, so it has to be Yoshi-P's personal distaste for it.
It's literally the worst possible excuse ever.
They're worried about breaking role fantasy in a game that already permits plate armor on casters, and robe-gear on tanks. Equally you already have NPCs running around in fending gear, even though they are a tank. It's not really an excuse at all.
I seethed so hard.
It would also be weird to see a tank fighting a God in a bikini.
Meanwhile me as a healer:

The hardest part is finding some sort of armored pants (never did find any). There is a variant that can do this on BLM as well.
Just to note that the inverse: A Dark Knight (tank) who looks like a caster is even more possible.
And ironically, sometimes you don't even need cosmetic items lol. The Asphodelos fending items are literally robes with pretty minimal plating.
Sometimes I think that YP is ignorant about the glamouring potentials of his own game. Pretty much like once he was about MCH players not being able to double weave at something like 150ms - which was pretty much a basic complaint and really easy to assess.

GNB glam, except everything except the weapon is caster gear.
Thing is I really would like some fending/maiming gear on my PLD glam in particular, If you were able to equip and dye both channels (which you can do now) of the maiming Top from the aglaia raid, it would actually look nice as some "light weight" armor.
I don't like Bulky big shoulder pad armor, But I also don't like Casual Glams, But you practically get forced between the two if you want to play a tank, similar in how Healers are forced to wear robes ect.
Tell me why can people where a fall guys shirt as a tank but not wear some more light weight armor? None of the glam rules make any sense.
In response to this response— everyone keeps fixating on this part of his answer when he stated just seconds later that the team keeps bringing up when and how to open up more options for players. Which is a major change in their stance and indicates more hope for this happening than we've had ever before. Yes, he repeated the Black Mage in plate armor comment again, but he digressed after and said that the team wants to lift restrictions eventually. Indicating that its no longer a hard no. Focus on that and push for it to come sooner, rather than later. Being petty about the Black Mages in plate armor excuse isn't productive, focus on the positive in that it will happen eventually, rather than never like once previously believed and put pressure on them to pursue it ASAP.
Ah yes, Yoshi's 3rd or so denial of expanding our glamour options beyond contrived role restrictions. First it was not wanting to confuse players with casters in armor and tanks in robes (lol, we were beyond that, even when the comment was made). Then it was that he didn't want BLMs running around with great axes (as if any reasonable soul asks for this). And now it's "awkward" for him to see a BLM in plate armor. I'm sorry, what? By that logic, what's a lalafell doing in the iconic Pray-return-to-the-Waking-Sands Minfilia outfit casting black magic spells instead of having MSQ markers over her head?
It'd be less cringe if he would just come out and blame the ARR spaghetti code or something for the real reason they don't want to do it. In that 2016 interview he cites bandwidth, but I suspect it also has a lot to do with how glamour items are designed/coded to being "equipped" over other gear and are subjected to the same restrictions. You can't even glamourplate AF gear on a shared armor between two different jobs without the system messing the bed should you switch jobs outside a main-city/sanctuary.
If this is true, then great. Maybe they're saving something like this for a new "feature" for the next expansion, like two dye channels are supposed to be for DT (now that I hope we are done with hamfisting new, limited races).
I see it as less about being petty and more about people rightfully ridiculing such a blatantly inconsistent statement. Reddit even had a massive thread mocking it. They should feel embarrassed that they thought that excuse could even hold water. Quite honestly, it should happen eventually, and sooner rather than later is preferable, but we have been barking up this tree since HW and Yoshi has sidestepped it with unsatisfying answers of similar absurdity every time interviewers deigned to ask it. We have a giant thread asking about glamour restrictions; I don't know how much more pressure we can realistically put outside of lucky few interviewers keep bringing it up. Just let the people point-out that the Emperor in fact, has no clothes (or is wearing a lace bustier and fishnets while sprinting with a great sword).
Not a big fan of glamour restrictions outside of the job-specific “poster” armor. Moreover I do t really like the “oh no we can’t make too many things because reasons” when they literally took the sky pirate and whatever mad max looking series and made a bunch of level 1 glamours that are almost all identical.
How many slots of “limited item space” were used on that? And why those two sets and not something more widely glamoured (like the bikini bits from Stormblood) or raid bits from Crystal tower series?
And while they're at it, unlock race-specific gear too.
It's going to be a very unpopular opinion, but I think it's better to keep glams locked to jobs. The game already offers ways of getting around these aspects (as shown by the op); but visual identity is still important, and having a hopefully blougi-goulba of jobs distinguished only by their weapons isn't an idea I'm keen on.
Especially as - and this is a personal opinion - I don't trust people too much. I'm not saying I want all personal freedom to be erased, but I'm one of those people who don't really like seeing Miqo'te in maid's clothing in dungeons. So I have to admit that I prefer to keep the restrictions in place.
The latest caster tome gear is partial plate mail so it’s not like they’re completely against it.
Though I’m not sure we’ll get anything like that in DT considering the aesthetics we’ve seen are precolumbian America, American Wild West, and cyberpunk.
Should be unlocked and not a issue in 2024, they have years to do this. We already can wear outfits to a certain extent so the excuse is quite bad. It is down to them not wanting to waste time on it more than likely. You only have to look at how lazy they have become with hairstyles and how limited they are. Imagine if they would allow us to share hairstyles how we would not all be clones.
Visual identity was lost long ago, if it ever were there, and visually jobs are only distinguished by their weapons. (Possibly with the exception of "artifact armor", but nearly nobody wears that anyway.)
No, there are no good reasons for restrictions on glamour.
Is this not already where we are at? The gearset designs are really formulaic and samey. Casting gear is always pallette swap healing gear, which often is extremely similar to DPS gear but with some kind of long back or suggestion of a cape or robe. The way the different gear is "distinguished" from each other is really arbitrary anyway. Like aiming and scouting pieces being exactly the same except one has silver metal trim and the other has brass, always random depending on the set making it really annoying to try to make glams.
I bet he's one of those who think it's acceptable to wear full sets and call it a creative glamour sets... Glam endgame has been a thing ever since glamour system was a thing, just let me use that one striking face chain on every job as character signature piece. If I want a full plate BLM it already exists, but he just doesn't get it
I know, but I still enjoy the fact that some glamour are locked and only accessible to my Sam / WHM / Sag. I would really be upset if, for example, and BLM was able to equip the armor of a PLD.
But it's a personnal opinion, as stated before. I don't think there is much to discuss here : I agree to disagree with you, and I understand your position. But this isn't what I wish for the game.
And then there's the Genji set from stormblood. Or the armor sets from Bozja. In which they straight up slap armor on casters in both instances.
I wouldn't say "lazy"..
"Timid" is usually how I would describe their approach to most changes that would potentially change a status quo.
See: any fix that requires a bit of player adjustment or implementation time being announced with slews of apologies punctuating it. While the community is largely like "no this is cool, ur good- thx 4 the fix" they accommodate their message for those who would be facing LITERALLY THE MOST TRYING TIMES IN THEIR LIVES due to this disruption in their expectations.
Hey y'all, can you channel your support to this thread too, if you haven't already?

(A massive ongoing thread might be able to gather more attention...? Maybe?)
while I don't play FFXIV anymore and have moved to FFXI, I don't understand why SE won't remove glamor restrictions, I mean in FFXI, you can wear any gear as long as you have that job leveled to wear it (e.g, wearing 99 AF PUP leg armor)
I hate FFXIV and there glamor restricted game

I just wanted to post FFXI stuff because I love Vanadiel
Nothing odd about any of these, a perfectly normal party with a tank, healer, melee and mage in it...
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachmen...7ee6843c8b25d&
Lest the point be missed, in order these are:
- a white mage (healer) in Legacy plate armour and parts of the role-specific Genji, Daystar and Swansgrace sets
- a dragoon (melee) in role-specific Shadowless robe and Shire Pathfinder circlet, all-class skirt and fabric sleeves, and the Fae spear which is prettier than the actual WHM cane from that series
- a black mage (caster) in almost entirely role-specific gear: Eikon top, High Allagan mask, Rakshasa hakama, Kokuko shoes
- a warrior (tank) in fully role-specific Nightsteel / Void Ark armour set and Facet circlet.
As annoying as it might be if that one item that just makes a glam set for you has the wrong DoW/DoM tag on it, It's honestly better for the health of the game overall in keeping certain visual parity in being able to look at something and say yes that's X.
Sure there are going to be some exceptions to the rule when style of certain armour sets add plate options for casters, or more lightweight armour for tanks but overall it's better this way. Even though there are many joke glams that people like to use which aren't apart of this rule but are there moreso for fun.
"Naoki Yoshida: Again, from a technical standpoint, it’s not impossible to do. But that said, looking at the jobs that are available throughout the final fantasy series, it would feel awkward say if a Black Mage jumped into an instanced dungeon with full plate armor. I think we want to maintain the image that we’ve depicted through these different jobs that are available in the series."
It continues though.
"That said, Final Fantasy XIV has been around for 10+ years at this point now and we understand that glamour and having different gearsets in terms of appearance, cosmetic elements, is a big part of players’ play style, and we totally understand that. So, there have been, in passing, conversations that would be brought up amongst even the team mates saying, “Should we consider opening it up?” “When should we do that?” Of course it’s still not anything that’s set in stone, but we do want to look to having more freedom for our players for sure."
