I finally have BiS. What should I do now? Should I barse? But there are no parsing groups anymore, nobody cares. So what should I do with my BiS? Are Ultimates really the last thing left for me to do?

If you're at ilvl 660, you have gear that will see your adequately through the Dawntrail MSQ until you get your level 100 Job Armor. You won't see better gear until the level 95 dungeon*. The 600 gear and a few dungeon drops will be all you need to get to level 100, you can save all those free gear coffers* for leveling alt-jobs, or selling.
* - of course assuming they follow the same pattern as previous expansions.
Did you get the p12s mount?
What is the point of this thread? I'm not really being facetious, I need to understand what the question really is. BiS is there to help you clear fights faster, and is mostly needed now for ultimates. It has no other purpose, nor has it ever had any other purpose. Fights in this game, outside of ultimates, are designed to be cleared with crafted gear available at the start of the tier. This is in part because when Gordias came out and was overtuned to where that was not accomplishable by more than a fraction of the playerbase, the raid scene was almost destroyed. We are too accustomed to not needed to clear previous fights for extensive periods to get gear to clear later fights. This is just how raiding is designed.
You can solo treasure dungeons if you have warrior geared up
How much side content have you done?
There's plenty to the game that isn't raiding.
Let me guess, you're a veteran of older MMOs right? FFXIV is very different to old school MMOs like FFXI where BiS was ultimate gear that was a desired reward for your hard work and remained useful - here in FFXIV, BiS is just a short term benefit only really useful if you're into hardcore endgame content (as in, Ultimate/Unreal raids) - everything else is perfectly doeable with much lower ilevel gear. Gear is just a tool that is constantly being upgraded, so what is BiS now... will soon be junk only useful for glamour or trading in for Grand Company Seals. Gear in general is just a tool for a task, to be used and then replaced when a better alternative comes along.
That's not to say you've wasted your time - as the first reply in this thread mentioned, you'll be set for normal content going through Dawntrail til towards the end of it's main scenario, so you won't have to worry about upgrading for a long time.
tbf u just need any BiS to raid them Ultimates.
All other stuff U can also play thru with token equipment ecc.
BiS exists to play ur rotation at its best damage / timing. If u're not doing any Ultimates u're just raiding for them mounts out off Savages ^^'
Unless you need it for a ultimate, there is none.
There is legit only one bit of content that really needs bis and that's mount rokkan savage and aloalo island savage on criterion. That's it.
The point is the journey! Enjoying your time raiding, making friends, working together to overcome a challenge.
The real BiS is the friends we made along the way u.u (I'm not even joking)
You can do the hardest content with your BiS. Or you can do easy content easier. Or you can do content that your gear has no impact on. Or you can quit until Dawntrail. Whatever best suits you.
That's MMOs for you. You are being told to get the best gear you can and you keep improving the gear for the sake of... Improving the gear.
The truth is that while no MMO will ever really tell you "you're done, see you next xpack" because the publishers have a vested interest in you continuing to play at all cost, in reality you can't expect a MMO to be interesting forever, all the time. It's ok to take a break until dawntrail. It's probably better to do that than force yourself to play the game at all cost if there's nothing in it currently that you want to do. This way you'll enjoy DT better when it comes around.
Now if FFXIV had open world pvp there would be something evergreen and fun to do, but alas...
The purpose of BiS is you kill enemies faster, including hunts, maps, dungeons, extremes, savage reclears and now criterion. It's also been required for Ultimates in patches they got added in.
The other purpose of BiS is similar to the purpose of walking around with an ultimate weapon or "The Necromancer" title - to show off what you've achieved in the game, and inspire others to do the same.
Outside an ultimate, Bis is technically "useless"
Since you can clear all content with crafted you pretty much can ignore bis forever
Barsing is more of a niche and side thing only a few really care about(say, joining a static to have a previous record) but even then it doesn't say all about you as a player
And outside that it'll will only help speed things up, so... Yeah
to feel good and accomplished about yourself.
enjoy it while it lasts.
Ironically, going into a new expansion with BIS just for the sake of having an easier time became kinda irrelevant with the advent of Duty Support. Granted, you still need a real player party for the Trials (assuming they won't do something like a Hydaelyn duty support again), you can do just fine with whatever gear you find.
you get enough gear through msq rewards alone... there is no point to it
except ultimate
There is more than ultimate.
Grinding stuff from dungeons, 24 man raids, fates, whatever goes faster and more efficient with better gear and more damage.
It's very important on some extreme fights because you can set the ilvl for PF high enough to where only people who have completed the previous tier can join for a few weeks. /s
You can do Criterion dungeons.
I mean l just upgraded my healer tome gears to 660, then l called it the day. I don't even do expert roulette that often. The point of having them is just for the sake of having them.
I will not rest until all of my jobs are i660
BiS is always a little pointless for the final raid tier as it's not even going to be useful for older ultimates. You can basically just vibe until Dawntrail now. At least your gear will last for like, 5 levels while you're leveling.
you get bis for the sake of bis, eif there was a treadmill of bis, youd hit the end at some point anyways.
use the extra dmg and health to max farm easier, or go to alolo criterion
To have it before everyone else and be able to dye the normal raid gear. To make it that much easier for weekly reclears as you gear up.
XIV is not like older MMOs where there is a massive gear gap between casually obtained gear and raid gear. We're all reset fairly close to even gearwise with each new expansion and BiS gives a slight boost in the new MSQ content where you don't need to upgrade for quite a while into the expansion. The only long-term use for BiS is Ultimates.
