Can we get a Dramatic Opening Cinematic?

I remember the ffxi cinematic so well. It was full of drama with amazing music and it made you really want to play the game.

FFXIV's cinematic on the other hand seems really disjointed and out of touch. It doesn't make you feel like a part of the world or lore, and it focuses too much on the leve system which is outdated and plays no serious part in the game anymore.

So please, create a -really- dramatic cinematic for 2.0.
Kill some kids, split some families apart, nuke some cities, crush some lalafells. Whatever it takes.

Even if the game sucks (I don't think it will), a good opening cinematic will make people want to play it.

Good gameplay footage will impress more people.

Generally if a game company only shows me a cinematic -- it means they are trying to hide something.

I love a good CG like anyone else but... I am looking forward to game development much more then the CG

I don't mean to attract people. I mean to make people -want- to play the game. If the game makes you feel like you can level up and save the world, you will have a psychological incentive to play.

As opposed to the current cinematic which basically tells you that you can play with cards and go bounty hunting.

Well... 2.0 is getting a new cinematic trailer.. so..? Yeah.. it can..?

First- o_o', I dont know if I would go as far as killing kids or crushing lalafells... (if you mean being darker than Aldo loseing his sister from XI)

Can't we have both a cinematic and gameplay footage?
I trust we will get an amazing cinematic, I mean look at the 2.0 screenshots from E3 of the warrior and dalamud, it's bound to be great! :D
And I know they will have to show some gameplay footage to show the game is different from first launch.

I think the 2.0 opening cut scene will be based around Dalamud, because that is what will have happened, cue huge meteor falling on Gridania and chaos insuing, then cutting to the rebuild as the legacy message gets told (can't remember it off the top of my head, but you know the realm reborn part.)

Before we found out about how jobs were being implemented, I used to fantasize that the opening cinematic would show the massive armies of the beastment, garleans and the grand companies fighting each other, then as meteor/Dalamud closes in, on the opposite horizon you'd see a giant crystal shooting lots of little lights in all directions. As the camera focuses on some random combatants, the lights transform them into the various jobs. You'd see a familiar-looking elezen in a plain tabard turning into this, a Miqo'te MRD being hit by one and turning into a WAR, a highlander PGL being hit by one and turning into a MNK handing out asskickings like they were candy, a male midlander Lancer turning into a DRG and skewering stuff, and a lalafell that suspiciously looks like my avatar trying to run from a light, getting hit by it and emerge in a familiar red outfit with matching pimp hat, firelit rapier in hand. :O

Couldn't think of a better way to present the jobs than in a real hour of need.

oh it better not! we were told that only we would know what Dalamud would do since weve stuck out with the game. I dont want those filthy non legacies to see something i paid for free!

We're getting the trailer cinematic, which I'd assume is the game's new opening.

All I ask for as far as openings is an event that makes sense, introduces you to the play environment, and gives you a kick in the right direction.

Firstly, source of this info? I have never seen it.

Its how the lore carries on between 1.23 and 2.0 it only makes sense to see Dalamud blowing Gridania up in the opening cut scene, and I don't think they should let anyone miss Gridania getting blown up :D

I can see it now, perhaps an automatic timed cut scene just before servers go down for 2.0 maint (re-watchable for all legacy members after 2.0) with Dalamud getting near, and what ever it will do happens, then a message "To be continued at the launch of version 2.0) ahhh cliffhangers, you know you all love em.

well Yoshi said in his letter a while back, i will try to find it. That Only we would be the ones to know what will truly happen.

Some valid points in OP but I think the open cinematic for ffxiv set the stage for The Echo, guildleves, primals, the garlean empire, and the dragon horde etc., all at the same time. And so in that respect it did well in establishing a premise for the gameworld. It didn't really have a lot of dramatic tension, but it wasnt a total failure or anything. Actually, I think it was quite good, and some people probably remember it much more vividly than the FFXI one.

Besides, it's way too late to make some request like this as though something we say now could change the course of their CGI development plans.

There was also nothing really wrong with the original anyway. It seems like a waste of their time to even remake one, if you ask me.

New cinematic video is coming. We already know 2 screenshots from the video. The one with Dalamud and the other with a warrior surrounded by flames.

I realise that, but saying "make it more dramatic" now - at this juncture in time - is futile unless they were already considering that beforehand. And I maintain that they shouldnt have bothered making this new intro movie in the first place (which is again a futile thing to say because it's too late now, but hey, if they want to waste their money making a new intro movie which people will spend 0.000001% of their gameplay watching, then so be it). Still seems like a waste when they already have a movie to begin with. Why make two?
