Absolute state if the great ffxiv community

I'm sick of seeing ppl say ffxiv has an amazing community. It doesnt, everywhere I go every tiny crevice has toxicity and elietism. Lethargic 1 1 1 spammers in duty roulette, Party finder, megalomaniac fc leaders. Pvp "nice job" spam, toxic mentor and anti mentor rhetoric and even here on the forums. I knew this community had issues since some time. But when did we evolve into feral beasts attacking each other for our mogstation purchases shouldering the blame off yoshi p and onto other players.

It's true that buying cashshop items sends a message to them that its OK to make them. But it's not fair to shame players for spending there hard earned cash on things they enjoy. This community is supposed to be better than this...

I hope you didn't work to hard coming up with this nonsense. There are better things you could be doing with your life. Do you realize your assessment of the community is your opinion? It only matters to you.

Okay, what's ur point. What does that have to do with people attacking and shaming each other for there cashshop purchases. And why does my personal life have to be relevant, its nice u think there's better things I could do. But ultimately its not for you to decide what a grown adult woman does with her life

People who talk about an amazing community are not referring to how well the community executes a rotation. They are talking about their kindness and patience and how welcoming they are.

Most of the people saying that the community is amazing are people who just do roulettes, seasonal events and stuff with their Free Company, because they are anxious about using PF on their own.

As for people who have overcome anxiety enough to start using PF, it really depends which parties you join. I only meet pleasant people in PF ever. Why? Because I avoid any PF descriptions that contain red flags, such as an impatient leader that is making demands or intends to kick people.

If that's the legit worst thing you can come up with that this community does, then... yeah. It's a pretty amazing community. You only have to compare "nice job" to the sort of things that happened in Halo or League of Legends.

Most people buy things from the cash shop... from veterans right down to the sprouts wandering in Central Shroud, they are riding cash shop mounts a lot of the time. The people attacking the cash shop are a tiny minority of FFXIV players who are probably Asmongold viewers.

I did not need to be called out like that.

I'm in FF14 since 2.16, and in 10 years of playing I honestly can count the really bad interactions on like... my two hands, and I'll have some fingers to spare after finishing. Can't say the same thing about other MMORPG projects I was or still am playing.

Is FF14 community perfect? No. No community is perfect so long as it consists of living people beings with different cultural backgrounds. Could it be better? Probably. But in comparison, FF14 playerbase is genuinely pretty great (especially if you spend your time actually playing the game instead of living on Forums).

What some people should stop doing is spreading (and believing) the false narrative that "great community" is somehow equal to "a pool of perfect UwU angels that have zero downsides".

I have to disagree with the original poster.

I just returned after a year away and haven't seen much toxicity before or after the break, save from (what I wouldn't call toxicity) a player informing me that I caused no damage while leveling my lvl 58 RDM in Main scenario roulette yesterday.

He wasn't wrong; I probably didn't do a lot of damage because I don't know the class, but perhaps he should have kept it to himself?

I really feel that FFXIV has the best online community of any MMORPG!

There is toxicity on every social platform. Best you can do is pick the least shite. As someone who has played mmos before there were mmos (in the MUD days), pound for pound, FFXIV is one of the least shite, and that's extremely impressive given it's size.

And I think that you're the last person to tell people how to spend their money on FFXIV, seeing that it appears you spend 15 bucks a month to get enjoyment from posting whine after whine on this board. You've made it abundantly clear your not getting enjoyment out of the game.

This is nothing unusual, people get butthurt that they can't afford something and lash out or are so firmly against cash shops that anyone who participates in it is automatically part of the problem and deserving of being talked down to.

If you wanna spend money in games and openly talk about it, that's the risk you run. Sucks but tis life. You can't control other people, only yourself.

I never attacked someone for wearing mog store glam. I pointed out that the player in question who was wearing mog store glam was calling out another player for stating that they thought Square put way more effort into the mog store items than they did the game and that they were more excited for mog store releases than in-game releases.

Side note. I have mog store items. Not all entirely bought by myself because I'm poor and getting ripped off on the currency exchange rate makes it even more expensive than it already is, but I have it and I wear some pieces frequently. I'm not going to shame someone over wearing it. I will point out that a third of someone's outfit is mog store items when they're mocking someone else and saying they have no sense of glamour is because of their opinion on mog store items though.

Like hey man, rock what you wanna wear but at least have it make sense.

This game is toxic. All online games are. Just because you don't see it in game doesn't mean it doesn't happen on forums or discords. Anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves. But to say the game is a toxic game is disingenuous. As a whole, it's not. It's just saying that everything is sunshine and rainbows is just as disingenuous. Because people are toxic, not the games you play. Sure, a game can spure it with competitive game modes, but nothing in the game is guiding players to be assholes. And it only takes one to make you think everyone is.

What shapes a community is it players(members) - Not the game itself.
Toxic/Rude/Elite players are in every MMO and FFXIV is no exception.
The key is to learn to live with it , and not letting others words/action get to you.

Blacklist,ignore and move on - works wonders.

I remember in my writing classes that the strongest points of a person's writing are in the opening and the closing statements. The body serves to link these two together by elaborating their meaning. When this fails, you essentially have a rant. When we learn now to read and write, we also learn how to make these discernments.

When you start your post off by pointing out the typo in the title, you kind of launch the whole thing off by assuming the reader isn't smart enough to know what you mean. Learn to let things like that go. Next, negativity just doesn't work. Even if your intention is to be critical on the subject, you're still going to want to start off with something positive so the reader knows that you're not just another doom n gloom fanatic. When you say, "The community." you're also lumping in good and wholesome players who just want to have a good experience online. You should aim to utilize a little more specificity in your critique.

Your last statement is the strongest in your post. As such, I can only deduce that you're entire problem right now is the shame for buying cash shop items. Who cares? If you want it, then buy it. That's your money, and you're not under any obligations to make other people happy with your money unless you make a s-ton of it.

You'll get good people and bad people in every online game, no one can change that.

That is because there are people that have had better experiences than you have, or other people for that matter.

FFXIV is no different from any other community, it has just as toxic elements and similarly has just as pleasant elements.

I literally don't know what peoples' problem is with other people having an experience that differs from their own... Like, seriously... They have their experience, just as you have yours... There's no point in them saying it is the most toxic community in existence if that is not their experience with the game.

Edit: [The community has always been this way, people shame for buying things in the Mogstation, just as they have done so in the past with people that play the game differently to how they do, e.g., roleplaying and visiting venues, gposing etc., -- and how they continue to do so. It's nothing new, really...]

The community health is linked to the quality of the content and the length of time its been out and unfortunately the final patches for Endwalker have been some of the roughest ones in the games 10 year history. The expansion had good ideas going into it but the balance of content has been very swingy, with things either being too easy or too difficult due to the design direction, the introduction of cross DC travel breaking up established communities rather than helping build them as well as rendering access to some of the side content difficult due to limitations from cross DC travel, and underwhelming content drops that were relatively low effort such as the manderville relics.

The reality is that they probably needed to have set up safety nets for the difficulty issues, like having an echo meter that could be turned on to assist groups doing savage or a way to scale up the damage of enemies in other content deemed too easy for additional reward. What they likely did here was try to simplify the game as much as possible to reduce the workload and then reduced the content they were going to release to make space to do the graphics update. This nuked the living crap out of the replayability aspects of FFXIV as even the Heavensward relic being done unsynced is more challenging and interesting to do than the manderville relics. Let alone the fact that cross DC travel nuked island sanctuary access and just about every other system they have. Of course people are going to start getting grumbly and ticked off at one another when the existing content in the game is the way it is and the answers being given via fan fest are largely dancing around the problems or trying to shift the blame to the community itself.

At the end of the day, the community is simply a source of feedback on the design decisions taken by the team who built the game. Players are not the ones who designed savage, nor does our feedback design or create content: The developers have a vision they implement and then adjust it based on feedback.

And as far as feedback issues: Likely people didn't give much feedback during the back-half of shadowbringers because the game was in a good place. People liked the savage at the time even if it had flaws, but there wasn't much constructive criticism other than Bozja needing to have ways for players to do it as people naturally moved on or finished all their goals for the zone. I personally don't recall anyone asking for tighter body checks on fights (normal content or otherwise), only that people stated that savage was easy compared to ultimate and "anyone can do savage", which honestly isn't a bad thing. Having difficult content that anyone can do with some effort is much better then what exists in the current game.

In any case, patch 6.55 is coming mid-January so I'm praying they are going to at least ATTEMPT to address concerns with the content. It doesn't even have to be much, just they got to stop ignoring people. This is a situation where people legitimately may never come back to the game once they leave.

if you find toxic behaviour in every crack and crevasse you look into, I have to wonder why you are looking so hard instead of, I dont know, playing the game. here's a hot tip for you, humans play the game, and humans tend to be good and bad. personally, never had any toxic experiences in game, a few head scratchers for behaviour, but toxic.. none. if thats all you see everywhere you go, and not everyone else is seeing the same thing... the question to ask is, what makes you so 'special'? some times the issue is no further away than the closest mirror.
