Please add new autoattack poses for jobs.

I would like to have extra auto attack poses during battle for jobs. They could be toggleable just like with the normal out-of-combat idle and sitting poses.

For example, hrothgar and roegadyn have a different pose for DRG in which they hold the spear upwards, in a similar vein to how DRGs of all races hold their spear while walking with it unsheathed. I would like to keep my body and hold my spear upwards as a possible auto attack stance in the very same way we do while we walk.

Another case would be DRK. They should change their auto attack stance so that they hold the sword with both hands in front of themselves, just like at the end of the battle stance emote (see here https://youtu.be/fSRlgktw-oI?si=PPjQIbXlFsO2v0lD&t=5). It's basically one of Cloud's battle stances, just like many DRK animations are inspired by him.

I personally dislike the way DRKs hold their sword right now while auto attacking because it looks weird and uncomfortable. A toggle option would allow us to keep both for those who like the current one.

Oh, and of course, make the idle poses with the unsheathed weapons available to both genders so that female players can also get Kain's and Cloud's poses.

No yeah it's pretty much only DRK for me also. I get what they were going for, I think, but it looks so... it's a bit much. Maybe something more upright for NIN, too? Though that might end up too close to Viper's

Completely agree, never liked the unsheathed idle/running animation of the DRK and while sprint is kind of ok, it could look better too.

DRK's unsheathed sprint animation should be the normal run animation.

In fact, a LOT of DRK's animations are just way off. VII-R got the giant sword animations right with Cloud's movements, I think CBU3 needs to copy CBU1's homework on this one.

DRK's idle stance is based on the ochs stance, somewhat exaggerated (possibly due to DRKs wielding absurdly huge swords compared to most real-life weapons). It does look weird while running, though.

they should allow of us to use any stance/running/fighting we want,imagine....a DRK running like RPR

What REALLY is wrong with DRK's stance is that it sets up that really weak and awkward looking first hit of the combo, Hard Slash, which instead of a big powerful slash, is some kind of strange, halfassed backwards stab.

The front-hanging stance puts the sword in the opposite position to get any momentum or power in its swing, so it needs to first wind up backwards, THEN slash, but this takes up twice as many animation frames of which there are a very limited amount of per GCD. If the stance was was more like our boy Siegfried here, then we would already be in the proper position at the back of our momentum and could start the combo off right with a big satisfying swing instead

It would also keep us from looking like we're dust-mopping the gym floor while running.

Bumping this thread because I think that the battle pose of the boss from the 4th trial would fit perfectly as an alternate pose for DRK.

would be cool to have more options tbh, gives our characters... well character.

I think this would be a great addition! We can already cycle between idle poses and battle stances, and there also are sprint animations, so implementing some customization to our default stance while in combat shouldn't be that hard, right?
Anyway, I hope this gains some visibility! Even minor updates like this one can make a big difference :D

The auto attacks look fine to me (a forward stab, a wide swing, and a overhead swing), and the running pose is fine too, it's both defensive and ready to sweep six men at the calves...but urrgh Hard Slash looks so bad. No one would use a sword that big in such an awkward, backwards manner.

At the core of it all is the problem that stances which spread the legs very wide are unathletic, and therefore no blow which both seems believable and powerful can come from them. A frequently repeated phrase in sports, including combat sports, is that the feet are often placed "about shoulder width apart" when performing motions that require significant force. If you watch Olympic fencing, you'll see that they start with their feet about shoulder width apart in order to lunge far ahead and touch the opponent first, and once they have done so, they find themselves squatted down low to the ground, with their trailing leg nearly dragging on the ground behind them, in which case they are then open to counterattack if they haven't already won. For reasons unknown, XIV's artists have mistaken that compromised position for one which a person would intentionally start with.

Karate would have a word or two to say about that. But that got me curious, and it looks like dark knights are standing in something similar to shotokan's fudo dachi - Immovable Stance. I suspect it's a smidge exaggerated in-game, but it's a normal, very athletic stance that is both deep and very wide.

My only issue with it is it's really hard to judge the center of the character in it so I know how hard I can greed.

There is something to your implication here that the devs are probably taken in by the same bullshido that you are. TMA traditions which insinuate that they will replicate the Chinese horse stance in a combat situation belong in the same category as Aikido masters "turning the attacker's force against them" and, to put it politely, "would cost MP to cast".

My implication is that this: "At the core of it all is the problem that stances which spread the legs very wide are unathletic, and therefore no blow which both seems believable and powerful can come from them." has an answer in a martial art that I know uses wider stances that do "seem believable". But that's obviously a matter of opinion.

That's quite a lot of words to spew out in response to "it looks like a real stance". I mean, people actually do stand in it and actually do use it...not in *fights*, but it's not bloody Naruto.

What people in this thread are asking for is a standing stance and/or replacement for Hard Slash that looks powerful and believable, and you can't hand-wave that discontent away by saying "well -I- believe it", especially not if you also believe that the moon is made of cheese.

Thirty years ago or so when I was practicing karate, I used stances like that, two-shoulder-widths-apart stances in kata. Not "ki" or "qi" or whateverthehell. For actual sparring we'd use a narrower stance, but it's not "unatheletic", and strikes that come from it...well, obviously you think they're fairy dust and moonbeams, but hey, to each their own.

Since we're in a fantasy world, we can have both realistic and less realistic poses, and that's alright! Personally, I'd prefer a pose similar to what I outline in the OP because it'd be better for me and will tie another DRK animation to Cloud, which is already the case for several of them.

The biggest challenge to adding new animations is the sheer number of animations they have to make for each job and racial combo. Say we want to have one unique animation added per job, that means that there will be a need to create around 284 new animations due to all of the racial and gender combinations. Each animator can create one new animation per day, so you are looking at around 2,272 labor hours per animation request.

As you can see, that costs a lot and takes a long time to make. I would love to see more animations as well, but we also have to ask ourselves, at what cost? What do we want to give up to get the new animations? XIV's budget is not increasing, if anything, it's being reduced as a part of the efficiency work in the company.

That's what I was getting at before my interlocutor ate a bunch of crushed rhino horns and got his meridians all out of whack--the pose isn't that unrealistic, though it is exaggerated some.

well how about a menu that lets people change the animations of emotes / stances / skills and other movements?
since people yearn for more rewards we need also more types of rewards. additional animations for old stuff would be nuce... including different stances and attack animation for dark knights

If Phantasy Star Online 2 can make every single animation customizable, a game with a even lower budget, a non subscription, from a less rich company (cause both are multi billion rich companies), can do it, why can't we have it?

Pretty sure we all want our game to be the best there is, the best there ever was and the best there ever will be!

Horse Stance is a thing. It's also used and can generate power.

I wonder if the recent talk of "customisation options for character animations" from Yoshida includes the requests present in this thread. It certainly could mean having at least the gendered job idle poses unlocked but I hope it goes beyond that.
