What's the point for $50m Gil to do the Cloud beta test if you can't keep it?

Even though I did create a character on the Cloud beta & bought some items with the $50m Gil, what is the point when the character & everything purchased including the $50m Gil will be deleted? I definitely misunderstood Yoshi when he said he would give $50m Gil. I thought that it was a reward given to my main character in my main world for creating a new character & playing on the Cloud beta. :confused:

Do money isn't an issue while testing.

You answered your own question, its just to buy gear and such to jump in and do w/e quicker, they never said the gil was a reward.. They just want as many players on there to stress test and see how well it holds up with the variety of regions playing together, that is all...

it's for all the poor people who can't keep more than 2gil on their retainers so they can see how it feels to have a lot of gil.

the reward for participating in the cloud beta is a better cloud server altogether. which is a win for everyone.

I thought at first you got to keep the 50 mil but then read and found out you didn't. What's the point of helping out with the testing for no rewards and loosing precious playtime.

The point is to help them test it to see if there are problems that happen when using a cloud server (which involves virtual servers that can scale) instead of their own physical machines.

It’s to give everyone the chance to feel poor again.
I mean really, after they said they’re unable to remove gil from the game as fast as they want, why would they hand out billions upon billions? It would completely destroy the economy of every data centre/zone with notable participation rates.

It's to watch people realize how inflation in this economy works when they see 50m and think they're rich, followed by going to the marketboard to buy a 1mil Glamour Prism when there's no supply and everyone's wearing lv 80 tomestone gear.

More realistically, it's to incentivize spending through various means from NPCs without being gatekeeped from lack of funding to continue testing the various mechanics and ways on the datacenter.

Obviously so you can buy your golden shiny mount of choice.

Whats the point of life if I lose everything when I drop dead?

It's so you don't have gil issues during the test. It's really that simple.

The 50 mil is so we don't have money issues- except I've had to funnel 4 additional alts of money into my main cloud char for a large house and all the gil mounts lmao.

Exactly. That's what I was trying to convey in my post. Giving $50m GIL that you can't keep; buying mounts, food, gears, etc that you can't keep & will be deleted once the beta test is done, poured cold water on my plans to play on the cloud. To give that much gil on my actual character would have been more of an incentive to go on the cloud beta.

It's not unusual that playtests give people free currency so that they can try things out.
And it's not unusual that the testers don't get a "reward" for testing.

To not have to worry about gil while you help SE check the cloud server performance under conditions far closer to the live servers than SE can replicate in their internal testing environment.

Isn't a few hours on the cloud server worth it if it means you won't have 5 hours log-in queues for a month straight when Dawntrail is released? If not enough players participate, they may not be able to accurately judge if the cloud server will be a good solution. I would think as an Aether player, that sort of thing might concern you after what happened during Endwalker's release.

It also is a chance for you to try out some things that you wouldn't on the live servers because there's no actual risk to you on the test servers unlike the live.

I got mine by ranking up with my GC and buying them with seals.

Then I bought more with my leftover seals and sold them for 600k each. I sold over 200 Glamour Prisms at that price in less than an hour.

How do the rich players get rich? By selling the things that other players can't live without and will pay almost any price to get.

Some did buy one of the gold mounts. Others bought houses (Mist 5/35 sold out fast, never did bother checking Shiro 30/60 but I suspect it was the same).

Mostly, you spend on it convenience such as those who bought my Glamour Prisms. It's not all that different from how it works in real life. You pay others so you don't have to put in the effort yourself.

FC houses can't be purchased on the test servers. The 30 day wait time still applies (my test FC tried, we wanted to build a sub).

At the end of the day, ngl pure laziness took over and I will gladly pay for convenience, especially if it's not with my own gil lol. I would never do this on my main.

Hope you've been well also. Been missing you at hunts (not that I've been around hunts all that much lately either).

That's the fun part with test servers. It's "Play" play money. It means nothing because it gets taken away when the test ends so it doesn't matter what you do with it.

Yeah, I'm good, thanks. I've been taking a break from FFXIV; only really logging on every now and then to reset my house timer or do some dailies. At some point, I will return more regularly and back to hunts.

To be fair, the economy on the cloud server is... well, literally everyone has been told "the world is ending next Tuesday and you don't get to keep the money" so nobody is spending it in a rational manner. There is no need to save it for the future, and very little need to earn more than you started with.

If someone is charging a million gil for something that would normally cost 100 gil, whatever. I get on with my game and they get to roll around in their virtual money pit for the next few days, and we all end up back where we were. It's hardly any different than if they were selling it for free.

Oh, I don't know, maybe so that you can tell them if the cloud servers are a good idea or not since if they work well enough then you'll benefit from being able to play them in the long run?

The gil is literally there for the purpose of enabling you to do whatever you need to do to test out the servers. That's it. It's that simple.
