We need cross datacenter grouping asap.
Is it sad how normal that is. As a rule, you don't even que for that one. We tried a few times to get a roulette going through the party finder. I know we did it once that I was a part of.
But yeah, memes aside Dynamis is absolutely dead.
People only go on Dynamis for housing and maybe for the Road to 80 buff and then go to the other Data Centers to do content. I have an alt on one of the servers there and the fact even Limsa feels dead is not very good. I doubt that much will change unless they heavily push it when the Xbox players are here. (And by that I mean give them more rewards then the exp buff and the 1 million gil when you get to level 30)
I mean 90% of people are DC travelling to Aether or other DC's so I'm not sure why this is a surprise, the same will happen when Xbox players join Dynamis (lol as if they will, why would they join a dead DC ?), they'll all go to Aether for fast queues and groups, which means there will be 0 improvement to Dynamis's actual population that stays on Dynamis and doesnt dc travel 24 7.
Yes I too go on the absolute lowest population server when I start a new game knowing I won't even be able to queue for anything at all and struggle to make friends because 90% of the already small DC is DC traveling.
Get real.
Also yes maybe on expansion drop there will be quite a lot more, and what when the numbers fall off ? That's normal for mmo's, be it ffxiv or wow, big peak on expansion release then massive drop back to normal/stable numbers.
That will depend on what status SE assigns the other NA worlds and whether they leave data center travel enabled to all worlds.
The average number of active level 90 characters on each Dynamis world (11,600) already exceeds the average number of active level 90 characters on each JP world (10,750) per the latest LB census but that does little good if they're all using data center travel to play on the other data centers. Dynamis is already at a disadvantage with just 4 worlds so that halves the overall population compared to other data centers.
Things would be a lot better on Dynamis if players with Dynamis characters stayed on Dynamis to do content with other Dynamis players instead of heading to Aether like so much of NA does.
Never heard of this heading to Aether thing until now. Crystal fills all content, including EX trials and all raiding content. I've never once had a problem searching for anything to do while on the crystal DC, so sounds like it's a dynamis specific problem if people from that server move to Aether for whatever reason
Crystal worlds have the largest populations in NA but even some Crystal players have noted it's harder to get groups on Crystal than on Aether, and Primal players are reporting the same issue for their worlds.
But definitely the problem is worse for Dynamis being a data center that's only a year old and with only 4 worlds instead of 8. When the data center opened, there were not enough level cap players to get much in the way of level cap content done. Now that it does have sufficient level cap players, the habit of going to Aether is already in place. If we can't convince most of the Dynamis players to stay on Dynamis now that the population is large enough, then it's hard for Duty Finder queues to fill naturally.
I can also spout nonsense as well. Dynamis is about to be a year old, and it's still the worst place to be as a player on NA. Objectively speaking, it's barely good enough to run roulettes. You know, you play here on that character. You call it doom and gloom, and I call realism.
You can guarantee a percentage of those incoming players aren't going to lookup what server to join? That they won't see all the threads? That they won't see all the players telling them for the love of everything holy no? It's ignorance and naivete.
The majority of the playerbase doesn't play on the server. I know I've been in several FCs where the majority are anywhere else. Don't kid yourself.
Back when I played Wow, I was on a dead server. No matter what we tried, we couldn't revive it. Everyone kept saying that when x happened, it would fix everything and then nothing. The server stayed dead. And then Blizzard merged all the dead servers together, and guess what? My server was still dead. Because you see, the players all filled up the full realms until they locked and then moved to the high ones to make them full, etc. Now, granted, Wow has way too many realms for players. Honestly, Blizzard is wasting a ton of money on server maintenance if you ask me. But the point still remains. Expansions came and went. Nothing changed for the better. It only ever got worse. At best, your dead server is medium now instead of low. Or the real kiss of death the new players designation. Again, that's just Wow server culture, but the same naivete that everything will be better is still intact. At least the Blizzard devs found a fix. It was a dirty fix, but it worked if only on a casual end. We need cross DC queuing, and we needed it BEFORE we got cross DC travel.
Cross DC travel is to blame solely. The pros outweigh the cons of it immensely. I can abandon my dead server and do content somewhere else, and all I lose it access to features I could do when I log off for the day. Seriously, whoever thought cross DC travel wouldn't obliterate PFs and DF queues is a moron.
Exactly lol, just the absolute comedy lmao, thinking that Xbox players wont research a little bit where to go first, and if they do start on Dynamis, they'll see like 5 people in the entirety or new gridania on marilith/maduin/hali and like 150+ bots lala bots flying around and will search the other dc's after seeing that or straight up quit because they'll think the game is completely barren of people and has completely died out, the same will happen with returners/new players on expansion release.
That person is coping extremely hard.
Also agree with you regarding your points about DC travel, this was bound to happen really, the idea in itself is terrible, and it's solely on them, not on the players.
SE could just funnel the new Xbox players into Dynamis by locking all the other NA servers for character creation. And honestly, they probably should, both to give Dynamis more population and community growth and to save the rest of NA (especially Crystal, most of our servers should just be permanently marked congested at this point lol) from 3 hour plus Dawntrail launch login queues. Which was supposedly the reason the new DC was added in the first place.
Also again once the hype dies down, there will be a drop off. And if everyone knows Aether is the place, they will just transfer there after the dust settles. And Dynamis will still be dead. So the only solution we have is to be treated like overflow parking for an event. It is useful to have, but more often than not unused.
It won’t really fix the DC travelling problem but they could alleviate it somewhat by just locking all of aether
Right now they are just cycling 2-3 aether worlds that are locked at a time and keeping the other 5 open then repeating it the next time so aether is just constantly inflating without any really stopping mechanism
Jenova is now the third busiest server in the game; jenova used to be known as Aethers sleepy little brother
Aether as a whole needs to be disincentivised for non aether residents because it’s hurting both groups
Sad thing is that even if everyone did not move to Aether for content as they currently tend to, we would still be in a worse spot than the other Data Centers due to being stuck at half the servers. I would ask when we would get those other 4 servers, but 4 more servers of people who just leave to queue for content won't help anyway.
I wish we could just get cross Data Center PF and Duty Finder. :(
Quoting this for reference after around 6-8 months post Dawntrail.
I share the same sentiments as someone else on this thread. I don't really want you to be wrong, but I have a feeling that once the post DT patches drop it's going to be back to the usual. We might also have a small burst from Xbox players before DT.
Probably the worst part is that during DT release a lot of the players on Dynamis(all 8 servers with the 4 new ones added by then) will likely be from other NA DCs trying to get faster log in queues.
DT’s pre launch patch should force everyone back to their own DC and lock them down until at least the savage patch comes out
Whether it’s people trying to log on quicker using dynamis or aether getting longer queues because half of primal and crystal live on aether it’s going to be a mess
I've stated this a few times, and I've actually gotten backlash over it("But then I can't play through the expansion release with my besties from other DCs!").
I'm not entirely sure if SE cares either. It makes common sense to me for this to be done but who knows.
The problem is finding ways to give players incentives to stay on their home worlds or disincentives for traveling to other worlds that will catch their attention. I had brought the subject up earlier in the year but no one could think of a way to do it that others would agree to. No one wants to feel like they're missing out on a benefit or being penalized due to choice of world.
I think it’s mainly because time is our most valuable resource. No amount of gil, housing, or exp is going to make up for someone consistently filling queues. The brass tax of it is time. You need players to do conent with, and Aether has most of them. Honestly, no incentives are ever going to work. But if we remove the importance of the server, then we fix the problem. Once it's all linked and I can insta queue on Dynamis or fill a pug on the PF, these threads stop. The reality of it being objectively stupid to play on Dynamis stops. Balls in your court SE. Balls in your court.
And that would fix Primal and Crystal as well. And before someone shouts my server identity, I think you're nuts if you think any of it still exists. On Dynamis right now, the amount of venue spam I get for Crystal is nuts. The amount of foreign players, honestly, just for hunts is nuts. Aether has to feel like New York City in comparison. Brimming with more tourists than locals if you follow me.
Why this was already a low pop, data center travel was a mistake....Primal suffered the same fate. They should revert it or make it a social aspect only, completely banned PF/queue for travelers
I data center traveled to crystal last night and all there was were 100 pf groups under other advertising clubs and maybe a handful of trial dungeons and raids if that. I love being on primal but dynamis primal and crystal are suffering endgame party finder issues because of everyone piling onto aether for endgame because "aether is raid datacenter" kept being promoted to people and people claiming that's where all the "good raiders" are.
Well, actually, if I knew I could go to the low-pop server to get access to certain things I probably wouldn't get on high pop servers (i.e. housing), and still with a click of a button (DC travel) easily queue for all of the content I want to queue for, I could very easily see that as a tempting proposition.
Once you get above a certain level, it drastically tapers off. Most roulettes are duds. Generally speaking, if you're level 90 or 100, when Dawntrail comes out, those servers aren't ideal. I like being in a small town. I really do, but when you need convenience, you have to be smart enough to realize you sacrificed it for peace and quiet. Because that's the truth. Dynamis is dead post 50. And that's after a year of new player growth. I don't see it changing much in the future. As more and more people leave for better pastures, it still remains dead. The choice on how to fix it is obvious. Blizzard figured it out for them a decade ago. They just need to figure out how to implement the fix. It could take two three years to get it going if it's even possible. I generally have hope in the devs because usually, when something bothers me, they fix. I'm not asking for much. I'm just asking for cross DC queuing. That's it. I personally couldn't care less about cross DC PF, but everyone here wants it as well, and I'm not going to stand in the way of progress.
I see some people saying that this is a player-created problem, that if only people stayed on Dynamis to queue, things would work out. I disagree.
SE has set things up the way they are now. These are the current "rules of the game":
- Players are spread across different home data centers
- Players get better DF and PF activity if more players are on the data center they are on
- Players can freely travel among data centers
The obvious, optimal solution to the "game" so to speak, as it is currently designed, is for *all players to try to play on a single data center* because doing so benefits *all* of those players.
This is the current game design from SE. It's not really a "self-fulfilling prophecy" to say that one data center is for raiding. It is the inevitable result of players choosing to play optimally! And we are gamers, of course that's what we are going to try to do.
Asking someone to voluntarily choose to seek DF and PF activity on a non-congregating data center is basically asking them to play suboptimally.
SE are the game designers, and it's a bit concerning if they never thought this through.
I hate what DC travel has done to my PF (Crystal) and my FC chat. All of the announcements around data-center travel that I remember pitched it as being a way to play with your friends. They could have accomplished this by having DF and PF inaccessible to travelers. No party creation, either. Your friends could have invited you to whatever activity, you're good. This would have been enough to keep people on their home DCs and Primal and Crystal would have been just fine, as they were before the change. Not sure about Dynamis, but I guess we'll never know.
The genie's out of the bottle and it's probably going to be awkward to remove free-reign DC travel now that people are using it. The only way out of this is cross-DC matchmaking.
