No one cautiously optimistic about the East Coast data center?

If you missed it, during the Cloud Data Center Stress Test announcement during the keynote address at EU FanFest, it was mentioned that the physical location of the cloud data center is on the East Coast of NA.

Many around here have been unhappy with ping issues trying to connect to the NA data centers, which are currently physically located on the West Coast.

If you're currently upset over your ping, does this give you some hope that it will be better for Dawntrail?

Assuming they choose not to move exclusively to cloud data centers if the test is successful, do you think they might relocate a couple of the existing NA logical data centers to the East Coast since they have a facility there again?

It will probably make it worse for us from Europe playing on NA, so not much to be optimistic about I'd say.

As for both coasts, they'll just upset the other one and swap the places of both, swapping the upset at the same time from one coast to the other pretty much

I'm not optimistic cause it's just going to be another dead data center while we're all forced to play on Aether anyway. New Data Center, same problems.

I never had ping issues before and I live in the east coast. In fact whenever there was an outtage on a world/data center I remained living somehow through the outtage.

They couldnt even fill Dynamis, and it wont fill in DT either, except maybe for a short time, maybe a few months at most until the population gets back to normal.

An entire new DC will be good news for us housing enthusiasts I guess, but aside from that it'll just be a dead DC yeah. Yet another one after Materia and Dynamis lol, it's like they dont learn a single thing from what is going on, just like when they mentioned last week or so that they are not aware of any imbalance in between datacenters aside from JP, basically implying that it's not a thing that everyone goes to Aether for content.

For some reason it almost reads like everyone has the impression that it'll be permanent, or the concept that we will suddenly be shipped down river to the East Coast NA.

Just a Cloud Server Test that is new characters only, that'll get wiped as soon as the test ends.

As for its purpose, couldn't tell you.
Feels like Emergency Servers incase of overflood/load. Except they're testing before hand where it won't affect long standing character data.

I expect to see the cloud datacenters used to better distribute the servers to have better pings. People can move to a better ping or remain on their server of choice. It will also allow them to open DCs in countries or regions that would prove to be difficult. This could mean a South American server(s) in the future.

I've always wanted east coast data centers but it feels a little to late to me, then again I might let my house get destroyed.

I won't be excited unless it goes live...my ping from NA to EU is too similar to NA to West Coast NA. Seeing more EU players might be interesting though if it heads that direction though...and it will be a breathe of fresh air but if and only if it becomes more accessible. The real reason I think people are not talking about it right now is because they don't know its existence, given that the information hasn't really caught wind.

Also who gives vital information about the NA data centers outside of the NA? This is the main issue. I didn't know of its existence until you brought it up. xD

Back when the servers were hosted in Montreal, my ping was at a comfortable 105-110. After the datacenter relocation to the West Coast, that increased to 165-170.

But as Remish has mentioned, if there'd be an option to travel between East and West Coast datacenters, everyone would still travel to Aether for content anyway.

Yeah that's my bad I'm extra tired and I misunderstood east coast and west coast... lol... so yeah it'll be a good thing for us europeans on NA then, works for me.

Agree with the Aether thing though, the same thing will just happen again, Dynamis hasnt even filled all 4 worlds that were created (Seraph is ok, the other 3 are just absolute deserts), and they are adding 4 more in the future, plus another DC then for this cloud thing, it's just spreading the community at this point and I really dont think the game needs it at all, it's detrimental to the active dc's health.

The test giving out free books and 50m gil should be a fairly substantial clue as to one of the true purposes of this test. Hardly a number you arrive at by chance.

There's substantial value in trying to get a full deployment to operate like this, so you have an ace in your pocket if another demand surge arises. It's expensive, but not as expensive as having to stop selling the game entirely. I suspect, however, that the primary motivation is for working out any technical kinks around distributing and offloading instances into the cloud. There's quite a lot of merit to doing that with the sort of instance where the demand is extremely elastic, and the performance and spin-up requirements are comparatively low...

Though I imagine some groups/personalities will be making plans on what to do when the Test Arrives. As some in the more community known podcasts even thrown ideas around how some folk will likely make small events out of the temporary Cloud Test.

I am optimistic about it. In fact, it is the most exciting news for me for the entire fan fest. Currently, playing on one of the 4 dcs on US west coast causes me unable to double weaving anything without clipping for jobs with a gcd faster than ~2.5 s. If the new cloud dc option at ease coast gets permanently implemented, I can finally play jobs like samurai, monk, and ninja.
You know, it is kind hard hard to get excited of the new jobs, if I cannot enjoy playing them with the clippings.

Honestly no point really without cross data center queuing or anything worthwhile

It will be deader than dynamis

If still connects through NTT the problem with the ping will always be there. NTT is problem node and they know it. This is the only game that really gives me ping issues and each and every time a trace is ran it points to NTT.

I didn't get the impression this was any permanent thing, just something they were thinking about to help with stress on the servers in periods of high demand.

Doesn't necessarily mean much, unless they'll be restricted to their own servers which will be in contrary to what everyone expects them to be. Which is in the servers that PC/PS is on.

it's likely only to go up for when we get flooded and have to lock servers. Like Major Patch days or Expac days.

Dynamis is already a ghost town, a dedicated east coast server would just end up exactly like that.

And even if you move there, as its not Aether, nothing is going to change.

this is only a temporary thing. the cloud servers are there to be scaled up and or down depending on demand. i would think they would be there to avoid the massive congestion for the 7.0 launch as they don't want another debacle like last time when 6.0 launched. if you can't get into your homeworld, just do msq on the cloud server. and with the increased amount of players that will be playing on xbox's when 7.0 launches. it will be a nightmare.

That is my understanding too. I thought it was clear this was a temporary test of a system meant to handle overflow. They never mentioned another new DC for NA though they did mention new worlds (to complete Dynamis, I guess).

From what I’ve gathered, characters will be temporary and evolve on that server only (you won’t be able to send or use that 50 mil for your regular character). They will be handing books and gils to those temporary test characters for the purpose of the test only so people are ready to go around the game world and try different aspects of the game instead of having everyone start at lvl 1 in one of the 3 main cities. Once they get enough feedback, they will turn it off and decide if they go ahead or not with this concept.

The server will only be up from 11/21-11/27 and you'll have to create new characters, which will have access to all jobs, level jumping and story skipping potions, and 50 million gil. And while its going to be focused on the US's East Coast, people from every region are encouraged to join to help stress-test it. *✲ﾟ*(❁´▽`❁)*✲ﾟ*
I wonder if its going to only be limited to one character per account and/or if data-center travel will be locked, otherwise, people are going to make a bunch of characters to get that 50 million. (*≧▽≦)ﾉｼ))

Not sure if people will be limited to a single character but I am sure it will be limited to the test environment and there will be no DC travel (and no transferring that 50 mil to another character).

I may try it and see what it’s like… I’ve been having issues with lag for months now, and I know a good many people in the East US and EU have been as well. From tracerts, it appears NTT has faulty nodes in San Jose and Sacramento. Even if I’m on the cloud, wouldn’t I still have to go through there anyways because that’s where the main game servers are? I don’t really understand how it all works. lol

I believe yoshi p did mention that cloud server could take over and the reason has to do with the physical data centers. Was hard for a few years there to even get server blades to expand. So it's a possible alternate they might use as to not have to worry about server costs.

As a east coast player, I'm extremely curious how those servers will work in terms of gameplay. Even tho it's just temporally, It can be good alternative to implemented servers from a lot other regions if goes well for SE and players.A lot peeps say Aether is still king, the reason why is all servers are in same location. If there one on the east they will lose a chunk of players easily. Y'all forgot there a lot of North American east coast players, south american and europeans plays in NA. If there a advantage to cheese mechanics and have smoother gameplay, players will jump boat easily.

Optimistic? We don't do that around here.

There was never an issue to begin with. This is simply a minor improvement that Square Enix is offering to better the lives of their playerbase. We all know there will be complaints regardless of the successful launch as the majority of forumers are angry and bitter despite everything Square Enix offers them.

I suppose it makes sense if they are just looking at population data. Dynamis is quite full. Sadly it is mostly full of bots since all the players are, as you said, on Aether looking for groups. :(

I can only hope that if they add yet another datacenter, they also add cross datacenter party finder.
