Please do away with the following and sniping quests

I find the quests where you have to follow someone without being seen and the ones where you have to use some sort of scope to shoot someone with something irritating.

They reek of trying to fill the story with whatever can be found, instead of story.

Please SE, do away with these mechanics.

They do it to break the monotony of go here and talk to people.





They don't use them excessively. It's fine as is.

I think personally if they do commit to a new start point with say 6.1 or so onwards then fine but if they still go with the whole start from ARR...then they need to go back through ARR-SB and trim some fat cause there is indeed stuff that doesn't need to happen you could trim another 10-15% of quests between them still. Do what they did with the ARR rework and put some to side quests etc or maybe nerf the objectives within them. ARR post patches still could use a proper tidy up.

If anything, we need more of these sorts of things, implemented more effectively. They should be used in a way that uniquely supports the story and makes it a better experience.

This game tends to do a laughable job of actually leveraging its medium(videogame) to help tell and support its story. The current summer event is a great example; You literally just spend the entire event reading text boxes.

No, they should be building on it to make it even better. Not removing it.

I like those quests, myself. Wouldn't mind seeing more of them, or at least more quests that have us do something different from the norm.

Uh, no. These sort of quests are very typical for video games. They happened all the time when I was young playing PS1 games. Follow-someone without being seen was SO common. They were trying to add old RP features from single player games that many of us will remember. I welcome it because they make the quests more interesting than just click this, click that, kill a few enemies.

How dare SE do anything that isn't just clicking an NPC, run to another NPC and click them, maybe some obejct even.

These were terrible on the release of EW, but they've been patched to be less annoying, now they're just reskins of the usual "go to x and right click it"

FF games have a long history of mini games like this. Nothing unusual here.

Personally… Playing assassins creed black flag (the pirates one), and I think FFXIV could do well to incorporate/refine their systems to have more meat, like eavesdropping a conversation (have to stay within a radius while also avoiding line of site, but there is a better visual indicator of where you can/can’t be, and there is a timer allowing for missteps like being out of radius, being seen or not being able to see your target, etc).

If they ever got off their butts to refine the physics engine and allow actual jumping, we could also utilize more 3D spaces for parkour etc.

Seeing as how a significant chunk of dev time is going towards a graphics update, and 6.0 used a bit to rework old zones for flying.. I really hope a new physics engine and proper jumping puzzles is somewhere on their list,,,

The "follow the NPC" quests in FF XIV are very much times better than one in the Desmond Miles-era Assassin's creed games, IMHO. I remember failing those over and over again while trying to 100% complete them.

If I could change one thing about the questing experience in FF XIV, I'd make it to where we can use our linkpearls to communicate with folks rather than physically teleport all over the place just to talk to someone and then teleport back to where we started.

If they do that, then they may as well just give us mobile magitek phones and fly the Ragnarok everywhere. It's a fantasy game and they are trying to keep it to the "travel by chocobo-and-cart", "use bows and swords and magic" that is usually associated with fantasy, and keep the technology to a minimum as some sort of fringe thing that only an enemy way up North is mostly using, and occasionally Cid.

I've noticed that linkshells are rarely used except when you're in relatively close proximity (such as all in Thanalan, all in La Noscea, or all in Coerthas), so I tend to think of them as walkie talkies (which have limited range) rather than mobile phones.

While they did overuse the following thing in Endwalker cause SE likes to play with their new toys, I enjoy both of those.

As an AC fan since the beginning I'd love to see them crib some elements. Haha, though probably not tailing from Black Flag. That one is pretty notorious in the community, though half the time we had to do it on a boat and that was all kinds of irritation. The old eavesdrop missions to get information about your target would be a lot of fun, though. Instead of Thancred getting to go be the sneaky sneak all the time, we could get a turn at it ourselves.

while they are not very great, its breaks the monotony of go here and here and here. I just wish the tailing the npc was like in a crowd or something because its a bit ridiculous to be walking in a open field with one tree and they look around and they look around and ou are out 1 malm from the game line of sight XD

Nah, we need more variation on quest types instead of the over used "do my grocery shopping", "talk to my cousin", "punch a grizzly bear" quests.

I like the sniping quests. The following quests need work.

I get where you're coming from. Maybe I could have worded it a bit more clearly, that's on me. I guess what I am saying is that I find it annoying having to make what I feel are pointless teleport jumps all over the world that don't really seem to do anything other than pad things out. You make a good point about over-reliance on linkpearls. Maybe just rewriting some of these quests to cut out the "filler" steps that don't really advance the plot.

patch the follow the npc quests so that nin can cheese them with hide.

The system now allows for you to use aetherytes to teleport, previously you were forced to walk/sprint everywhere.

Following quests are really unintuitive as a Lalafell when you hide behind a giant rock and still get spottet because a Roe would not fit behind that rock >.>

But these quest are annoying in general. Not difficult, but also not fun at all.

"please square enix i just want to gather 3 dog poop and then go back to the npc, to then go again to the same mobs and gather 3 of their tongues, and then go back and then go back again and get 3 of their pelts, I dont want anything different please just give me the same thing to do for 90 levels"

Gonna have to disagree, the game's MSQ questing is such a huge bore that I actually welcome the break of the "talk to npc, go to this spot, wait queue bar for inspection" monotony.

I want the devs to continue developing more ways to diversify the questing experience. I still say "In from the Cold" or whatever it was called, was the best solo MSQ quest this game has ever produced yet. It was challenging and the stakes were high with the part of the story, at least to me it was.

At a press discussion, YoshiP did say that those quests had been "overdone" for Endwalker , and that in future, they will be tailored more to suit the content. So, we can expect some changes in the future.
