This is a wholesome comic about someone getting sick at Fanfest and accidentally spreading COVID. The community reception has been very positive and I love this cute comic >w< ~

Like this comes as a surprise to anyone? Covid will be endemic forever. Like any virus, it cant be cured, cant be prevented. it will always be present in large gatherings regardless of where or when.
Thats what endemic means.
Im sorry he got sick but...its a part of life now like every other virus of its kind.
Again, short of hiding in your home for the next 100 years, it cant be helped. His symptoms could just have easily have been from the flu or a dozen other possible illnesses. Fever, chills are symptoms of at least what..twenty separate diseases. More. Short of testing yourself DAILY, you cant know what you have. For all he knew he could have been infected from an asymptomatic carrier who contracted it from a third party unknown.Quote:
yeah but what do you feel about him spreading covid at fanfest
Or from the air recirculatory system. Ever hear of Legonnaires disease? I also VERY MUCH doubt he was the only case that day.
Ill say this again for emphasis and it is medical FACT.
You can have an infectious disease and not have a single sniffle or other symptom. You have no way of knowing. None. You can infect others and not even know you did. I do feel sorry for him, the timing was rotten but again, this, amongst a host of other infectious bacterial and viral diseases is a fact of life we will all have to learn to adapt to.
So no, he didnt spread it to anyone. He contracted it from someone else. The guy must feel horrible. I would.
We will see cases of Covid for the next 100 years.
There is no drug, no therapy, no medication of any kind that can stop or halt viral infection. It can be treated, the symptoms and signs can be ameliorated to allow for day to day life, but it cant be stopped.
You can have flu, take medications to ease the runny nose, to help you breathe, slow down or stop you coughing..but you still have the flu. It cant be cured.
Not yet at any rate.
How long before we do? Ask your great grandchildren.
It wont be soon.
EZGIL: That was then. These days pestis pestis, yersinia pestis are treatable and curable with antibiotics, aminoglycosides to be specific. But medical research, when it comes to virii...we re still a long way off.
Rolder, see my earlier point. You can have it and not even KNOW you do. So you get a slightly stuffed nose or a headache. People brush that off and keep going. Ill put it another way. Rolder, you could personally have caught covid and not even felt a single symptom.
How do you not infect someone when you dont even know you are sick?
Again, he could just have easily gotten it from the air recirc system. We will never know.

I dont see how this surprises anyone.Quote:
The percentage of cases that were truly asymptomatic among laboratory-confirmed cases was 35.1%
Incidentally, forget conventions. They arent the biggest venue for contracting a respiratory disease. Want to know what is?
THE OFFICE. Your workplace.
Offices are Petri dishes with a vengeance.
I used to get sick all the damned time when I was working. Imagine my reaction when i retired and suddenly found I was NOT getting colds and flu every few weeks. Matter of fact I havent had a bad case of flu in YEARS. Offices, enclosed spaces with air con to recirculate the air are an excellent vector.
Think of that the next time one idiot manager tells a staffer to come to work sick.
The whole "you can have it and not even know" argument seems moot to me when we're talking about a guy who exhibited symptoms the morning of in his hotel room but just brushed them off, took a dayquil, and went to fanfest anyway. It's selfish as hell but that's the classical American response to an infectious disease I guess. "I paid for this trip, and if you all get sick because of me, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make" lol.
His biggest mistake was putting it online. I'm sure there were hundreds of people who weren't feeling 100% but showed up anyway. But this guy was stupid enough to broadcast it live so now he's getting a ton of heat. When people made the connection to Soken being an immunocompromised cancer survivor and "fans" showing up and spreading covid, the righteous fury hit an all time high on twitter last night. It was actually really amazing. Like a fireworks display of anger. It's weird to see people defending going to a totally optional for-fun public event while you're ill. To his credit, at least he got the hell out once he tested positive. I really think his biggest mistake was to make a comic about this shit, like this is the sort of thing where you just go home, pray you didn't give it to anyone while you had no idea you were carrying fucking covid, and then just keep it to yourself. So weird how people have to turn everything into clout shit.
I know full well Koros made this as another topic of contention because they know it was actively hated on Twitter and elsewhere for the selfishness of the person who made the comic. Get some original bait man like give it a rest and do something more productive.
In regards to the idea the person should have tested tbemself before going, it’s rather selfish to just ignore that and threaten the livelihood of others whose immune systems aren’t as great as your own. I’m going to the October fanfest I’m fully expecting to get Covid or a cold because of the stubborn nature of people these days. I know we pay money to go to these and most can’t get refunds… doesn’t mean you should go with the aim of infecting people either. Just a mask and some hand sanitizer is all I can do when that happens.
Pardon the ignorance but....is covid still rampant in the US? as far as the comic portrays, his only symptom were some random chills in the morning, and that could be literally anything, or nothing at all, so everyone's first reaction being "you should've tested for covid!!!!???" as if it was obvious feels....a little disingenuous. (it's very easy to critizise someone after the fact)
I do agree with Avoidy though, he was unlikely the only person who - knowingly or unknowingly - got infected, he's just the only one who felt the need to announce it publicly, thus becoming the scapegoat. Now everyone who was at fanfest and got covid will blame him, even if they got it from someone/somewhere else, or were already carrying the virus themselves.
It isnt an argument. Its a MEDICAL FACT.Quote:
The whole "you can have it and not even know" argument
A chill? A slight headache? i get those now and then and I dont have Covid.Quote:
when we're talking about a guy who exhibited symptoms
They are common symptoms that can mean literally nothing. I get the shivers when I walk into an airconditioned building. Does that mean I have covid?
NO.
Its no more than anyone else does who doses themselves up with cold medication when they have to go into work or be fired. This is a common practice..everywhere. I had it happen to me for years when i was working..decades before covid even appeared.Quote:
It's selfish as hell but that's the classical American response to an infectious disease I guess.
Im an Australian.
Avoidy: the only way to make sure you dont have it is to test yourself once or twice a day. For LIFE. Or every time you sneeze. Or get a sniffle. Or a cough. The symptoms he experienced were possible for a dozen illnesses besides covid. You can have a sneezing fit over dust particles.
Still think its a good idea?
It is endemic everywhere and will be for the next 100 years.Quote:
..is covid still rampant in the US?
In my state?
Quote:
The state has recorded 1,949 new COVID-19 cases, down from last week's total of 2,262. There are 829 cases in hospital with the virus, 13 of those in intensive care. There were 34 new deaths recorded.
ill be honest tho
the dude is a bit of a git covid stuff aside he tried to sneak someone into the event lol
So if I'm reading this thread right...
A dude went to fanfest with an illness that was probably the virus of doom and had the bright idea to admit this on the internet by making an entire comic about it, we now have a thread on the forums about said Twitter comic where Vel is being their usual 'old man shouts at cloud' self, which sparked a small discussion over the Voldemort virus, and worst than all else, the original dude was a furry. What a world we live in...
Who cares my age range the death rate for contracting COVID was less than 0.5%, even lower if you factor in people without pre-existing respiratory illness. Shit might suck but it happens and going to a big event like that you should expect it. It's why if I'm going to events where I expect a ton of people I'll take a lil bit of DayQuil and make sure to drop no orange juice with my breakfast few days prior just for preventive measures in case a lil virus attacks me.
As someone who works on an ITU I just want to put an asterisk next to that and say that, yes, you can treat viral infections, and, yes, you can prevent them. Condoms and vaccinations for instance. The WHO declared Smallpox as eradicated after a big vaccination campaign, too, decades ago.
I know what you mean, though. You probably cannot completely get rid of it. You just lower the chances. Having little outburst like that in larger gatherings in just normal, I completely agree. Unless we go back to a lockdown, good luck preventing that stuff.
Just felt the need to chime in. After Covid and lots of people turning into self-certified virologist on social media it's hard not to as someone who actually deals with that stuff. lol
Plague doctor new job confirmed.
If someone with mild symptoms like his isn't entitled to paid sick leave, then he can go in whichever public places and private venues he has been invited to. The idea that he'd have to go to work but couldn't use his non refundable fan fest ticket is moronic. People who are immunocompromised have to take care of their own health and not go see live entertainment if it puts them at risk. This was a voluntary event with thousands of people which 100% also included asymptomatic carriers of several diseases. You don't go in a dog household or a place which allows dogs if you don't want allergens or dog hair on you.
Yes, a cold is dangerous. Never go out people.
Of course its a god damn furry.

You're totally not a furry tho /s
Go ahead if you want to, not like I could stop you if I tried.
Haha! Love the meme! Mind if I save it? It's glorious!
And yes I am not. I am not attracted to animals/anthro creatures. I like playing Beast women. Playing as something =/= being attracted to it. XD
Edit:
Thank you! And I generally respect it if people tell me no. Have a great evening!
Can you ever make any argument that isnt a whataboutism or a strawman?
We live in a post-COVID world. Test before going to large gatherings.
Like how we live in a post-9/11 world and have to deal with TSA for any air travel; it's what you do to be responsible / safe / not a selfish [redacted]
Basic common sense.Quote:

..which doesnt preclude you contracting it after you test, which was my entire POINT. He could have gotten it anywhere. Even inside.Quote:

Thats why its called an endemic disease.
You might. I dont. TSA doesnt exist here. Oh we do have Customs etc, but they aint anywhere near the TSA levels.Quote:

Oh and what stood out to me? Was him worrying about not having his work laptop. Why would you take your work laptop when you are on leave? Why would you work when you are on holiday?
Man who doesn't take showers makes thread about virus prevention.
Next thread.
I get its funny to clown on the cal-arts wolf guy for being an idiot but lets be real, covid was going to be at that con no matter what you did.
Yeah, that's kind of why I got travel insurance with covid/illness coverage, so I could isolate if necessary and avoid flying while sick.
Are there actually people who still think tests and staying home work? :D That's hilarious. The entire western world was on lock down with travel restrictions and it didn't stop the virus because it spreads before carriers even show any symptoms.
I tested negative for a few days with mild and worsening symptoms, including a headache and chills. My first positive test was after I developed a fever.
It's certainly possible to test negative and still be sick and possibly contagious, as you note.
But if you feel sick (and/or have a positive test), staying home still sounds like a pretty good idea. Not just for covid, but also for flu, etc.
As someone else noted, it's also a drag when you are exposed to bad colds/flu/covid/etc. at work or school and end up catching whatever because the powers that be insist that people show up regardless of how sick they might be.
How many of the people who think they caught the infection during fan fest did a test before going? None. Yet the incubation time can be much longer than 2 days and they could've already been infected beforehand.
And the guy left after the keynote 1st day and didn't return because by that point he felt sick enough to know that something was wrong.
One covid infection has damaged my heart and left me with high blood pressure. I'm half the person I was.
I am sorry to hear that. I was left with nerve damage that permanently screwed up my sense of smell.
Cooking meat smells like rotting meat to me.
Water smells like chemicals.
etc
Nothing smells like it should.
Not near the problems you have from COVID but it is life changing and makes day to day a struggle.
