I wish we had another expansion with three jobs.

I know they likely won’t ever do this, but I miss the way it was in Heavensward. Even if all three were DPS, it would still be cool.

They are running out of classic jobs though, and I think that to pad it out long term, the two jobs per expansion probably helps them. Realistically all we got left is:

- Chemist
- Geomancer
- Corsair/Pirate
- Cannoneer
- Oracle
- Ranger
- Rune Fencer/Spellblade/Rune Knight
- Pictomancer (though was it even a job? It was a one off thing in FFVI)
- Beastmaster
- Necromancer
- Knight
- Hawkeye/Shaman (uses axes)
- Could be more I overlooked, so don’t judge me if your favorite classic job isn’t there.

And these aren’t the very strange but interesting Ivalice jobs that could be pulled from.

Though the reason I think three jobs should come out per expansion, isn’t just to bring back old jobs. I think the first two should be classic jobs, but the third should be completely original. Would be great for a mixture of fan service, and with the edition of a brand new job to the series.

It will be difficult to get a third job again, quite frankly I am amazed they keep up the pace of two jobs per expansion since they also need to work on specific job reworks and the expansion-level job adjustments and creating new skills.

This is why I hope after we get female Hrothgar, and all the graphical updates done, it gives room on the devs plate for cool things like this,

It will continuously get harder to add more jobs and keeping them A balanced to other jobs and B feel unique. I also believe they already said we get no more healer as their balance is just beyond delicate. Adding 1-2 Dps per expansion could be the new norm.

I would like to see a totally original job from the dev team I think it would be super nice, but I also think that if we had 3 jobs per expansions all the time it would just lead to more and more balancing issues.
Balancing jobs is quite difficult so I am worried that increasing the number of new jobs too quickly would be quite problematic.
So I would rather the team spend more time to make sure that each job has its own identity and interesting playstyle while remaining balanced to a certain degree.

I am curious to know other people's opinion though.

I think the difficulty here is that as you increase the number of job, you necessarily end up with less players playing each one for a long time (as people change what they consider their "main" and such). As a result, the amount of dev time that could be spent on thinking of a new job, implementing it, and then balancing it against all the other jobs, could probably be better used making new playable content which anyone can enjoy on any existing job.

One way I could see a third job being announced is if they announce a new limited job alongside blue mage.
That could be interesting I think. ＾＾

Personally i'd take 1 job in an expansion where we get a massive overhaul to job identity so we don't have the 2 min meta, drk and warrior being too similar, the healers being horrible to play and so on

I never want another limited job, unless they have a real job mode that makes them usable in regular duties. It would have to be a locked in group of actions to make it fair though.

I'm surprised we're apparently getting two jobs tbf.

It would be nice to see 3 jobs, but, given that their job design team seems to have remained the same size and is still responsible for the maintenance of the jobs that already exist in the game, I'd say it's surprising that they even considered adding 2, even if they are DPS, even more so that they'll definitely be coming.

IIRC, there was an interview where YoshiP basically said something to the effect of not having much left to work with in terms of classic jobs (that would fit the ffxiv vision), so they were considering expanding into more "original" territory. So I would almost say that at least half of those classic jobs you listed are probably not in the running, at least not in the form you might expect them to be.

Wait, they said that? If so, that's extremely disappointing.

I couldn't care less about how many new jobs they add when those end up being nothing but fancy particle effects with palette swap mechanics.

I'll gladly take only a single new job every one or even two expansions if that job ends up being truly unique.

Honestly, I would rather them stop making new jobs for a while and focus on alternative battle systems and cleaning up the jobs we already have.

21 classes is a lot (22 if you count BLU). And I can't imagine them being able to adequately balance or design jobs if they just keep piling them on. Also leveling/gearing/relics are going to become absolute nightmares for both players and devs.

To be honest...

I still think 2, just make 1 be a homage/classic, and then make another be completely original.

I personally think they have too many longstanding issues already to undertake adding an additional job on top of the 2 we already get. I would rather a chunk of those resources/budget goes into resolving those.

I think they need to stop making new jobs until they update the glamour system. As well as weapon inventory.

I would rather no new jobs until they fix the jobs they have.

the only reason they add new jobs is to keep people busy for that little bit longer leveling their next two classes. the new jobs are not adding any new content. basically all they are being added in for is to provide some new "candy" for those people desperate for a new job every release instead of addressing the real problems such as anything resembling job identity.

They've already said multiple times that they want to move away from classic FF jobs and make unique FF14 specific jobs. So I doubt we will see many more classic jobs at all being added, or if they are they will be added in a way that is nothing like it has ever been before and is the classic job in name only.

That all said, the amount of work that goes into new jobs isn't going down and is only going up. By the time they are done with the graphic overhaul and the Female Hrothgar they will have more jobs to manage. Each new job gets special AF gear, relics, job quests, new weapon design, and must be balanced. So even without considering the fact that they flat out stated right after the disaster that was the HW trio (Cause lets be honest the only HW job that launched in a good place was DRK. Release AST was terrible until like 3.3 at the earliest and HW MCH... gun mage was gods awful) that they are never doing that again, the probability of them doing a 3 job release ever again is in the negatives.

I'd rather see them expand their job designer team than to add more "Oh let's strip X job's perk/mechanic then rebrand is as the new Y"-job. Their creations are getting stale & in need of more variety. Fair, recent example was SGE's addition for being the 4th healer of EW; an entirely new design space but end up becoming a carbon copy of SCH. All that opportunity: wasted for this craptastic job.

A: There won't be enough jobs till I get Mystic Knight. I may be in the wrong, I may be crazy, I may be on copium, but I will die on this hill.

B: Your choice of words is interesting. Implying that a new DoH/L might be worth adding (hopefully more like fisher, adding a new gameplay mechanic, rather than just forcing us to level another class with the same gameplay so we can omnicraft.

I think they believed in HW that they could try to add one new job for each role in every expansion, since that is what we got in HW. They have said many times that adding not only 3 jobs, but also a new job in each role was incredibly difficult to balance and develop for and it would not be happening again. I honestly don't think we will be getting a new healer at any point in the future, they seem to avoid that role all together with none of the team playing a healer seriously in game.

I will agree on this. And just for some comparisons (I know I know I am using WoW, but it FF14's main competitor.)

WoW is on its 9th expansion. Since their classes have multiple specs and have to be balanced similar to a full class here we'll break it out into specs. Since Vanilla, over the course of 9 expansions, Blizzard has added 12 specs/classes to the game.

Meanwhile, since ARR FF14 is going into its 5th expansion. With this 5th expansion we'll have had a total of 12 classes added since the 2.0 relaunch. We're adding classes in FF14 at nearly double the rate that Blizzard did for WoW and they have a larger dev team than CBUIII does. Not to mention WoW classes don't have to have a whole new weapon designed just for them, class quests, or AF gear. I personally think SE could stop adding classes after this and they'd be fine for a bit.

Edit: I failed at math and gave Blizzard two more specs added than I should have.

It's an even more ridiculous rate when you take into consideration that the job design and balance team, at least according to the game's credits, has a total of 4 people.

I think if you take massive reworks into account, we're still getting 3+ classes per expansion.

Endwalker totally revamped SMN to the point where it may as well be a new class. And the DRG rework (which sounds like it will be along the same lines, as they stated that it would be disruptive to release it between expansions) is going to be dropped with Dawntrail.

I'd rather they make one fun job than 2 recycled ones *cough* sage *cough* reaper *cough*
