Crafting: Dragon Quest X style

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at the crafting system for Dragon Quest X

Sadly, our current system looks terribly outdated and dull in comparison.

The 2.0 crafting overall is well underway and may be near completion, so it is useless to clamor for changes at this point... but still, wouldn't it be great to craft like this in FFXIV?

That looks a lot funner then watching a ball of energy change colors.

Didn't like this much. Skillful crafting = bad IMO. Very often this will render most craft atempts with underwhelming results.

I'd rather having longer craft procedures (as current ones or similar to battle) but where the success means you got something worth using.

This dragon quest looks very nice...i wanna see the graphics of Wii U version! If it's even to that starting CS of the vid it might be badass! ^^

How do you expect them to add motion controls to 14's crafting XD. At least judging from the images it looks like it's all done through motion control so while it might look fun it's not something they can implement in 14. 14 will have it's own new system ye just gotta be patient and wait for 2.0 to come around but for now enjoy it for what it is and appreciate the fact that it's gotten a lot better than how it started.

Crafting will also see some changes. The team realized that there are many people who want to get involved with crafting, but there were two distinct groups of interest levels. Some just want a simple crafting activity to work on, while others want to get deep into crafting.

To satisfy both crowds, Yoshida’s team will allow players who just want to make something quick and easy to do so with the press of a button as long as they have the required materials. There will be a percent chance of failure, but if you just need an item quickly and don’t want to get too involved with crafting, you’ll have an option there. However, if you’re looking for a more complex crafting experience, you’ll also be able to fine tune the items you craft using a new resource called Crafting Points, which will allow you to create higher quality items. I probed Yoshida for more information on this, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until around August to find out more.

I don't feel that the style of crafting in DQX fits the style of FFXIV

But that being said I am so gonna get DQX, the game looks amazingly fun

Um...isn't this how it is now?

It would be nice to make gear off the bones and scales of mobs like in monster hunter i wanted to do that in xi. or like the dragon armor in skyrim.

they did talk about how crafters will be able to make trophies out of the stuff droped by mobs/NMs.So we can display them in our houses like on Fable. probably would be plaques

Aside from crafting, in that video what's interesting in DQX is for solo casual players you can hire other players to join your party as AI, and say before you logout for the night instead of rest bonus you can register at the guild counter to rent out your character, when you come back in game if you were rented out by someone else you get the rental fee + get some exp from it.

Not only that, but the housing system looks pretty awesome as well..

I do get a nagging feeling that there could be some issues with putting the afk/rental party system in this game (gear damage, loot, monopolizing, etc..), but on the surface, it seems like a great way to make earn gil and as well as give casual players access to more content...

Just wondering, with all the thread locks going around, are we free to discuss aspects of other SE games that we would like to see in FFXIV?

As long as the thread talks mainly focused on how to have those system/features of those games into FFXIV should be cool imo, once the thread gets out of hand with ppl complaining to talk about those games elsewhere to just play that game then it gets flagged by the mods I think.

As for this crafting one YoshiP did say that they are changing gatherer/crafter so hoping mini game system that has more real mini game type of feel like this DQX (with FF quality graphics, although I love Toriyama art) it should be good. In fact when they first showed DQX crafting I posted on JP side about XIV with similar system would be interesting lol.

Who knows, the tera threads attracted flamers like flies to shit so it got hostile pretty fast. I think the thread about XI's newest expansion pack hindering XIV's growth was closed because the community pretty much answered it. This is the first thread I've seen in awhile where it compares elements from one game with this game and not get instant flame status.

But I do think that a crafting system like DQX has merits. There may even be a way to reuse current assets so the designers don't have to build crafting WIP models for every item in the game.

There is something to be said for the crafter having visual feedback experience with the item they are creating...

At first I thought I'd be watching some motion-control crap (I refuse to play games that give any sort of advantage to motion control users over any regular controller user), but watching the crafting was interesting. It's exactly what I'd like to see that implemented into FFXIV.

For the most part goldsmith is the only craft I can think of that seems to look okay with the glowing orb effect. When making things like rings and earrings I could picture one being made with the chaserhammer in that blinding glow lol and of course polishing raw gemstones on the grinder looks neat, but trying to saw an orb is half sounds as dangerous as trying to split atoms O.o

+ DQX is made by Square-Enix and is their next MMO talking about implementing some of the ideas from there is no different than people talking about bringing features from Final Fantasy XI.

I think I would rather see a system similar to EverQuest 2's crafting. Where each crafting skill is in response to a specific event, either increasing progress, durability or quality.

/nod agree with you that other threads OP linked to the video with specific time set on the URL but at the same time try look at the date/time OP started the threads. The other person started today, as this thread started yesterday.

That's one problem on the NA threads I see a lot... one topic, 10+ threads (in this case 2 so far)

The question does remain, though. Motion control wouldn't mix with XIV. Still there are some interesting things. Like the fact characters in that game can jump and I don't see people on the youtube video raging over it...

We're glad to see that the enjoyment that you have experienced in other Square Enix titles inspired you to come up with ideas to help improve Final Fantasy XIV. Dragon Quest X is a personal favorite of mine, and the suggestions that you have brought up have been great! Unfortunately, since the focus of the conversation does deviate a bit from FFXIV, the thread will have to be closed.
