That may be, but that won't do anything for improving the game past the PS2s capabilities, seeing as they will still have to keep it compatible with the PS2 for the japanese players.
-
): but now my HDD is useless sitting on the back of my ps2
-
people actually think that looks cool? The main city looks like a series of boxes and the 2 zones look exactly like existing zones. I'm sure it will be great and all, but that is the least epic trailer ever.

To you it doesn't, to others it looks amazing.
One mans trash is another mans treasure.
-
Hmmm I wonder how this will effect ffxiv?
Seriously thought they were killing off xi slowly. But then again this is another Tanaka product so it has alot of potential to be an epic fail

You seem to ignore the fact that the game is 10 years old... god forbid a company reuses it's resources
also:
"This content is still UNDER DEVELOPMENT *or maybe you forgot what that means* and may differ in the release version" lets ignore the fact that it's to be released next year...
-
-
The city does look very bland compare to the concept art.

The ironic thing? People ignore the bolded in regards to XIV and complain about something changing last minute lol...then again, with this community I'm pretty sure they'd expect a city to have zero NPCs...

I... something about this just kind of makes me sad... I spent a short time on 11 around launch, never to return after a few months... to see another expansion coming out after playing 14 is just plain weird to me.

This isn't just directed at you, but to anyone that says "this is weird". Here I present to you a game called Everquest, some of you may have heard of it it was made back in 1999 let's take a look at their expansions:
The Ruins of Kunark (April 2000)
The Scars of Velious (December 2000)
The Shadows of Luclin (December 2001)
The Planes of Power (October 2002)
The Legacy of Ykesha (February 2003)
Lost Dungeons of Norrath (September 2003)
Gates of Discord (February 2004)
Omens of War (September 2004)
Dragons of Norrath (February 2005)
Depths of Darkhollow (September 2005)
Prophecy of Ro (February 2006)
The Serpent's Spine (September 2006)
The Buried Sea (February 2007)
Secrets of Faydwer (November 2007)
Seeds of Destruction (October 2008)
Underfoot (December 2009)
House of Thule (October 2010)
Veil of Alaris (November 2011)
WAIT what madness is this 2011? that games over 10 yrs old how is this possible! lol seriously there's no reason to think that the XI expansion is odd it's a 10yr old game yes but if there's still a community that is passionate about it then there's a reason to keep producing content for the game also keep in mind that Everquest does have an "Everquest II" and they both seem to still be alive... granted I know some people might turn around and use Asheron Calls as an example as to what MMO didn't work when it came to a sequel but this is SE they won't let XIV die XD.
I mean yes Everquest did recently go f2p but think about it, Everquest went f2p while Star War's Galaxies was shut down, it wasn't even given the chance to be an f2p game -most likely due to SWTOR but that's a different story completely-
I just wish XI could of had more expansions like Everquest, not that it's to late but it is a pity how they stretched out WoTG as if to say enjoy this content and then please move to 14 when you're done with it. If they had shown more respect to 11 at the time they would have released an expansion back in 08/09 and then another expansion would be coming out by winter but instead they went the mini-expansion route which they ended up be 1/2 on since you can't deny that Abyssea did offer a unique playing experience.
---
So ya, there's no need to be confused over this expansion or to think that it'll interfere with 14 in any way, each community is unique and maybe even some come from both communities, but if they enjoy the game they'll keep playing it regardless of how old it is.
Also it would be dumb to close a topic like this on the XIV forum, they offered a discount for those who played XI and XIV at the same time be reducing the cost of XI fee for those 3 months so why wouldn't they want people to hype XI in an attempt to maybe entice people to play around with both XD.
-
I just find it strange they're releasing an expansion pack that would be released in the same year as 2.0, it's as though Tanaka is going out of his way to trying to make sure his failure stays a failure.
Anyways, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to add new jobs when they're are so many to begin with, many need some major re-balancing and some require new roles altogether. Why complicate a major problem even further, at least till they solved the issue at hand?

Why do people think tanaka make fail product? He made FFXI everything you love from Rise of the zilart to whitegate he was there. Tanaka did not fail FFXIV the CEO did by releasing a unfinished tanaka said in a interview they need more time. Seeing how they needed someone to blame he left and took the blame we would have never known what ffxiv would have been with tanaka around i still like his idea better then yoshi-p the idea we can learn skill and JA and even one day learn how to summon there god was plan for FFXIV.
Some idea where bad but i still don't think he the one to blame that should be Crystal tools and who ever came up with idea to release the game in 2010.
@SwordCoheir Releasing a pack for FFXI wont ruin ffxiv at all, all the money is still going into SE which then is use to make FFXIV better lol.

You guys can try to blame the ceo as much as you want but when a game is in the works for 5+ years and has no content rdy with a crappy server i think its his fault, he should have know ages ago that the server was not up to par after they could not code in basic UI stuff.
-
Expansion pack does look bland, but understandable given FFXI's history and that it's still in development. I wouldn't even mind returning if they had just made Abyssea and any future expansion pack require Lv.75 for access, permanently drop PS2-support, and I would undoubtedly drop FFXIV in a heart beat to play FFXI "24/7" again.

Don't forget that FFXI is SE's BIGGEST money maker

yes FFXIV been in the works for 5years but 4+ of that was waiting for crystal tools release they only start making the game about 1year before E3 2009 by the look of it so ya i blame the CEO and crystal tool.

Except that there's info out there about the expansion coming out for the PS2 in Japan. That still means there's going to be PS2 support, duh. Of course let's just forget I have another qualification on the PS2 support being dropped - it'd have to be PERMANENT, meaning that no one would be able to play FFXI on their PS2, even Vanilla, regardless of location.

Still doesn't matter they could still made the content and ported it over. Just like yoshi and his team is doing now.

Exactly, He had all this time To plan/Draw out/Execute an MMO and he didn't. Yoshi-P is Redoing all the Server engine/Graphics engine, Along with with Content/Maps etc all within 1.5-1.7 years... That's how you make a MMO. No Excuses
-
I'm personally glad both the XI teams and our own XIV guys are working to improve both games.

For Windows and Xbox360 only which means they are dropping PS2 Support.
Actually, it doesn't mean that at all. It just means you probably won't buy it in a store.
They expanded the space allocated to FFXI on the PS2 HDD by more than 10 GB. They wouldn't do that if they weren't supporting it.

Hello everybody!
First off we would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm in posting here. It's good to see people excited about a new expansion, however this is in the wrong forum. As this forum is only for Final Fantasy XIV discussion. If you would like to discuss the new expansion for Final Fantasy XI, please do so in the FFXI Forum at http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/forum.php. And at this time we will be closing this thread down. Thanks again and have an excellent day!
