Given today's letter from the producer, this article seems to have a little more validity to it. Still, I'm always sceptical of "conditions of anonymity."

Both Square Enix and Blizzard have remained mum on their own seemingly separate MMORPG projects.
While the developers at Square Enix have worked feverishly to produce what they have dubbed "2.0" -- the reimagining of the flubbed Final Fantasy XIV -- Blizzard has been hard at work on a project called by the codename Titan.
According to sources speaking on condition of anonymity, Square Enix and Blizzard have taken a bold new approach to developing an MMORPG.
"It's about financing, and pooling talent," the source said.
The cost of creating a competitive MMORPG in today's market is staggering, so the combined efforts of two of gaming's most beloved developers may be just what it takes to keep this genre alive.
The source also stated that pressure from Blizzard caused Square Enix to withhold a major announcement about the project that was to be delivered in tandem with a trailer at this year's E3.
Representatives from both Blizzard and Square Enix declined to comment with Blizzard stating they "do not comment on projects in development."

There might be to much friction of ideas if it came to making an mmo with bother a west/east developer unless they set down some ground rules before starting the project such as:
-World Focus (Sci-fi, modern, fantasy, prehistoric, etc)
-Class focus (Traditional western way of 1 class a character or the SE method of being able to change your class)
-battle mechanics
Think if they can agree on the above 3 it would be easy to make said gave with both developers but if they can't agree on the above it would never begin conceptualization. They'd have to have a lot of conversation and finally come to an agreement when it comes to choosing the above 3. <_< With that in mind though mabe if SE and Blizzard ever decided to make a game they should just go kingdom hearts on it and just make it a world filled with all their previous game concepts so everyone can pick something they like. They like sci-fi then play in the star craft/star ocean like area. Enjoy fantasy, play in the WoW/FF like area. Enjoy dungeon crawling, play i the diablo/choco dungeon like areas lol. Since an MMO developer has to be more agressive with content then before it would be better to produce a game witha lot of concepts in mind to give everyone something they may like then as a large group expand on each one as the project continues or mayve add new things like a sky area or deep ocean exploration or expand deep space exploration etc.
It could be interesting if two forces did team up to make an MMO since then you would have a lot of ideas bouncing around though it would also be a lot of work for the translators relaying each bit of information from one team to the other. -

Based on how much Yoshi-P has been trumping 2.0's FF-ness, I don't think there's any way Titan=2.0, but then, if this is accurate, what would be the nature of them working together?

He is just probably taking ideas from World of Warcraft that actually work, and make it work in a Final Fantasy setting.

I highly doubt that Titan is at all related to any Final Fantasy series.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think project "Titan" was data mined 2+ years ago (I heard of it from a friend at the time when we were both really big into WoW and Blizzard)... so this is a project that is getting on in age.
It would definitly be surprising if it was a combined effort. I'd like to see the end result of that *potential* collaboration! -

Its cool he did this, and even cooler he had the balls to put it in his letter, considering how ravenous and obnoxious some people get when they feel their MMO-comfort zone is in danger.
I didn't think it was possible to respect Yoshi-P any more than I do now. Once again he proved me wrong!

Well, this sounds...valid.
Would explain alot, including why Yoshida was "visiting" Blizzard, why someone completely unknown became producer and director of a main serie FF and even why 2.0 SS doesn't look like FF at all, but resemble some other MMOs.
Even if it was just some assumptions from the IGN dude who wrote it, it was indeed interesting. ^^ -

Yoshida was just voicing his excitment meeting the developers he admires in the industry, and he did so as a fan of Blizzard and as a fellow development lead of his team. This is the equvalent of one of us going to E3 and meeting Yoshida or Blizzard or even an artist from one of the teams we admire. Yoshida had fun as would any of us at E3.

Erm...yeah. While I often joked about what would happen if Blizzard were to be behind a game using the Final Fantasy IP, and going by my formula for the perfect MMORPG, I call BS on this. Especially since Titan has been in the works for a while, and was mentioned before XIV released. Some people really have too much time on their hands to come up with this stuff. XD

Yoshi-p is a gamer if he want to talk to blizzard then he should it was his chance to see and talk to other game company and get some information from them.
Idea of blizzard and SE working together and making a Final Fantasy warcraft game with wow mobs and stuff mix with a final fantasy feel it's just what SE did with Kingdom heart so the idea is not far behind but when it come to two company making a game together i don't think it going to work out with a eng and jp dev unlike kingdom heart that was just made by SE.
It be cool but at the same time i don't see it happening.
@Duelle They been working on a new final fantasy mmo sense 2005 and it sad that ffxiv still got a bad release then again noting you can do with that crystal tools lol. -

he said that he spoke to them about animation techniques, not a collaborative effort to merge games. where do you people come up with this stuff? all i ask is that WoW never shut down (it keeps the 12 year olds out of my games) and that FF never be EQ or WoW-like (EQ and WoW are the same game in different settings with mostly the same devs)
