Would a whip using job be melee or ranged?

I just noticed an aiming job glamming the Deepshadow Coat of Aiming and noticed how 'Belmont-y' it looked. What could this new job be called? What's a good starting city for it? Any Quistis and/or Castlevania fans around here in support of such a job?

I know Yoshi and co want to release more original jobs, so I don't see any reason why not.

If the job exclusively used a whip (as in, nothing in the other hand), it would be melee.

Whips in final fantasy games have typically been usable form the back row, which makes it a ranged weapon.

But for implementation in FF14, I'd expect it to be a bit of a hybrid. A melee weapon, but with a 6-yalm range instead of the standard 3-yalm range. It would suit a new Scouting job pretty well, considering Ninja is already a melee/ranged hybrid with it's use of Aiming accessories and several ranged attacks via Ninjutsu.

But it being a direct physical effect, it also remains a melee weapon. A longsword, even if 10 meters, is still a sword, and therefor melee.

And this would match expectations. And a 6yalm distance is close enough to involve positionals.

Although, i would actualy prefer a ranged character with positionals. But instead of involving angle, it could involve distance, or just a combination of both. While the whip is a physical attack, there is nothing to restrict it from magicly getting a longer range. And if side positionals are used, maybe this could even be made an ability (jump 90 degrees to the left/right of the enemy you marked). Another ability idea would be one that marks the next one as the opposite positional (a weaker true north in effect, but also with shorter cooldown as a sort of sage like mechanic).

There is a lot of potential with characters that can do both.

hmm, why not a "hybrid" with something in the middle of both ranges?

I mean, like we see in RDM, some combos could be done at melee range while other combos could be done at a longer distance. All they have to do is to make the ranged part a bit shorter compared to other ranged weapons (from 20 yalms to... idk... 12 yalms?). A good maneuver is to grab the target making it open to some combos too (like lightining going through the whip and shocking the poor basterd) or doing a "pull" to initiate these close combat combos (like a classical "get over here").

But, even doing both, the weapon must be considerated melee in my opinion. That doesn't matter much, but I think it is like a melee weapon but with a longer range. Like spears and polearms should be.

For variations in such weapon, some chains could be used (for visual flavours) or even ropes.

But yeah, It would be interesting to have this job inside game. In fact, Yotsuyu could have be one using it so instead of waping her way around, she would be whipping her way around :3

Hmm, I guess I would agree that traditionally it is a melee weapon. However, I think the job could still fit into the physical ranged role. Considering we already have five melee jobs, I think it would have to be shoehorned into the ranged class as we currently only have three. There are whips that are designed for both short and long ranged purposes, so it would just have to be the latter. Their max range might be a little shorter than the other ranged jobs though, which I also think is ok.

Either way, I think it is a very interesting concept and consideration to add the FFXIV jobs.

Whip is weapon use by the traditional Garlemalding War Maiden. It is teaching to the guarder of the imperial princess Svelte Lana to make the prison talk and teaching the obedient. Job it is play at the far range. Far range in traditional Garlemalding is Tsu. In the Tsu War Maiden is lash the whip from far and is building the energy of Confessor bar. When bar it is full War Maiden use the near range. Near range in traditional Garlemalding is Ndere. It giving the head pat and reward with the shoe. Flow of the two state Tsu and Ndere it ascend to high energy plain of the TsuNdere. It is the forgotten tech outside of the Limla.
