I saw an article that Yoshi told people to just buy a PS5. I don't want a console to just buy one game though. Why do people still make exclusive these days? It doesn't make sense at all this isn't the 90's anymore

Different outlooks, mindsets, and amounts of disposable income I guess.
I've purchased multiple consoles in the past initially for 1 game. Though most of them I bought other things for later or got another use out of it.
I initially bought my Dreamcast for PSO but bought other games for it some time later.
I bought an Xbox 360 Elite initially for Blue Dragon but bought other games for that later as well.
I bought a Wii U specifically for Xenoblade Chronicles X. The only other Wii U game I bought was the Starfox one that I didn't play long before getting overly annoyed with the motion control setup they forced on players. However I could play all my original Wii games on it.
I bought an Xbox One X to play PSO2's US release. The bundle also included a digital copy of Jedi Fallen Order that I'd only played like... 2 hours lol. Then PSO2 NA became available on PC and that Xbox One X has just been sitting on the shelf gathering dust ever since lol.
TBH for consoles the exclusives are one of their biggest factors in driving hardware sales. The reason microsoft has struggled behind Sony and Nintendo is because their exclusives rarely match up against the ones on other systems. More so in more recent years as microsoft exclusives have been quickly moving to PC as well as microsoft seemed to want to merge xbox and PC. They'd also had a noticeable lack of exclusives or first party titles as well which is most likely the cause of their recent drive to purchase game studios and publishers.
The one thing with consoles that you can't do with PC's is guarantee every single player gets the exact same experience. Hardware isn't a factor.
I say this as someone who regularly updates their PC with new tech.
It's the FOMO, OP. It's an exclusive for a while so it will drive consumerism.
Personally I have a somewhat OK PC for work and I won't die if I don't play a game at release. Imo, no gaming experience is worth buying an entire new gaming eletronic. The older I get, the less I see the reason for this kind of crap. Back when MH Rise was released I thought that it would suck to not play it right away (I even had a switch for other games, but found it kinda terrible to play on it), but give a few weeks and the hype is over and boom, when you see, it's released on PC.
If you don't prefer playing at a console and doesn't really want to play any of the other games, learn to wait. It's worth it.
I dont understand how people dont realize that initial game releases for consoles eventually wind up getting PC ports. We are going to get a PC release, this is objective fact, just like how we wound up having Steam releases for FFXIII and FFXV. Its just not happening atm.
So people who reeeeeally want to play FFXVI on release will have to do how we've had this standard within gaming where you buy a console for the games being released in it.
It's almost like SE wants to sell consoles or something. Weird.
why having a pc when you can have PS5
Do you think SE is somehow a major contributor to Playstation sales? Because there's really no reason for anyone to assume that given how many different companies, including Sony themselves, put out titles for the console. They have a long-standing relationship with Sony, but that doesn't mean they're for some reason trying to push the Playstation super hard without some underlying cause.
As for exclusivity, that's not uncommon anymore. A lot of game developers will make those deals. It's a way to make sure they will profit from a title, as relying on pure sales may not pan out if the game is not as well received as they might have anticipated. Heck, exclusivity deals are basically the only thing keeping the Epic platform alive. The practice is quite harmful to the gaming industry, but it isn't going anywhere until a financial reason is given for it to cease.
Would you care to explain in what way I answered my own question? You asserted that SE is trying to push consoles. I observed they are not, instead pointing out the underlying purpose behind exclusivity deals. Do you also think SE was trying to push the Epic platform by making Strangers of Paradise exclusive on it?
Forgot to mention this but this practice has always been SE's MO ever since they moved on from Nintendo for FFVII with Sony. Its been their home platform for the launch of all their main titles.
You're missing the point in what I am saying (or more likely intentionally ignoring it, as is common on these forums). I am not saying this doesn't help push consoles. I am saying that was not SE's purpose in it. What I am telling you is that SE is primarily only in it for the up front money, and that the side-effect of the deal is a potential increase in console sales. Sony is making the deal in part for the sake of increased revenue from console sales and in part so they can take most of the game's expected revenue for themselves, having already paid SE off.
Do you know what will happen if Playstation sales ever drop off significantly? SE will choose a different platform to make these deals with. They have done so before during lulls in PS sales, and they will do so again if their company doesn't go under in the next few years.
So we're just gonna gloss over the fact your initial reply was to tell me I was wrong only to then start saying we're agreeing when my assertion hasn't changed at all from the start. Aight. Moving on indeed.
Anywho, returning to the topic at hand, it seems pretty unlikely FFXVI will remain a Playstation exclusive if it is successful. There's no telling how long the exclusivity deal has them locked down for, but uh... PC is by far the largest gaming platform at this point. I have a hard time believing SE would pass up the opportunity to make even more money on it, especially with how simple it (usually) is to convert things from Playstation to PC at this point in time. Now if it bombs? Yeah, probably won't see a PC release. Wouldn't be lucrative.
Sony and Epic are known for paying for exclusivity because they are a cancer on the world, ignore what they are saying wait for a year.
Final Fantasy games being on playstation systems initially was nothing about exclusivity. Square titles were a staple on Nintendo systems up till the N64 PS1 era where Square opted to move to Sony because their system used discs instead of cartridges which allowed them far more data space to cram stuff in a game title. In a tech demo for the N64 square had actually provided a demo featuring FF6 characters and enemies in 3D which looked nearly identical to the overworld style sprites of FF7. If I remember right the N64 was also originally supposed to be a collaboration between Nintendo and Sony but Nintendo being stubborn and not wanting to trade cartridges for discs for game storage caused that to fall through and resulted in Sony selling their own console.
Epic however has been tossing that Fortnite money around like candy buying timed exclusives on new releases. Part of that IMO is it's pretty much the only way it can call itself competition for steam. Sure their cut in the platform puts more money into developer/publisher pockets than steam. However the steam userbase is so large most of them would see nearly all their sales come from steam without buying the timed exclusives. Some consumers will actually end up "double dipping" on titles with multiplayer features or modes, buying it at launch on Epic then getting it again later when it's on a steam sale for a huge discount to make it easier to play with their larger list of friends on that platform.
Not quite. They worked together on a SNES+CD Addon Called the Nintendo Play Station (with the space in between the words) and there's pictures of an actual model:

But then Nintendo literally one day after Sony showed off the prototype were like "Uh... actually we don't wanna do this anymore" because the SEGA CD was crashing super hard, and instead partnered with Philips to make the same thing, but then that also fell through. Phillips kept the rights to make Zelda and Mario games.
Sony developed the PlayStation (no space anymore) out of spite for Nintendo and because they didn't wanna throw away all the development they had made on the prototype.
No they even said there not gonna do that.
The exclusivity deal was made during a time when Sony and Microsoft were posturing for the next generation of consoles. Remember when we didn't know the price of the PS5 and Series S/X until like 2 months before their release? I wouldn't be surprised if CBU3 is experiencing major regret over this exclusivity deal right now, but a contract is a contract.
My major worry now is whether the PS5-owning portion of the FFXIV fanbase will actually keep what they know of FFXVI out of FFXIV chat, or if they will spoil the PC players for shits and giggles. My assumption is that there are going to be people trolling over this, and the moderation staff might already have plans in place to hand out bans for that. But if enough people do it, it would probably dissuade Yoshi-P from ever agreeing to any further exclusivity deals that prevent a PS/PC release on the same day.
I like how PlayStation complains about monopoly, then proceeds to make a third-party game exclusive to their console.
I think Microsoft should aim for buying SE next. Would be lovely to have the next major FF games on PC in Day 1
I bought my XBox360 just for Banjo Kazooie Nuts & Bolts. Because I already had the console, I ended up expanding into other games eventually like the Call of Duty series, Halo, Left 4 Dead and eventually got my money's worth out of it. The single platform game is likely a marketing strategy towards people like me.
Because:

And it was WAAAAYYY worse in the past. Today, most games run on many platforms. :)
Cheers
It's an exclusive. Will it stay that way probably not but they sure aren't going to announce it now.
You must not know that FF mainline games have always been exclusive to ps. Just like ff7 remake was only on ps now PC.
Pretty sure its to ensure the game has a good launch without the modding community causing any negative feedback. The game will come to PC eventually, just will probably be a year until it does.
If you want to complain to someone, complain to Sony Computer "It's only illegal if Microsoft does it" Entertainment, because they pay to keep the timed exclusivity.
It's only temporarily exclusive. Last I heard the plan was to release the PC edition 6-12 months after the PS5 version was released.
If the game is good, it's not really that long to wait and there are lots of other good games to play in the meantime. If the game ends up bad, you've saved yourself $80.
As to why exclusives still get made, corporate contracts and desire to increase market share of sales. Nothing new about that. Game developer gives platform maker a potentially big title as an exclusive in exchange for other considerations from the platform maker (like opportunity to release lesser games on that platform where they may get more notice and more sales).
Do you likewise complain about exclusives when it comes to all the games that are released only on PC?
I think that has to change with Microsoft rolling in and saving FF franchise from being PS exclusives. PC players matter, you know. The idea of "Exclusives" alone is disgusting, and what's more disgusting is a company trying to take third-party games as exclusives. Third-party games should be neutral or else it's plain monopoly.
