Do we even need a BST job?

No....not in my opinion.

I made a few threads about BST over the years, but I started to wonder...... what if they simply expanded the Chocobo companion to include other fauna?
(Aware this probably has already been mentioned)

Basically, you learn the ability to charm creatures from an NPC on any job.

I am a BST vet in XI and all.....but why waste resources on something you are not very good at lol?

I feel BST as a limited job is a waste of resources/time. Unlike BLU, having an animal fight by your side is already in-game, thus does not require a whole A$$ job for a system the majority loathes.

In a nutshell, add a monster log to the main game. Use whatever monsters you caught in place of your chocobo companion. Add an actual job in place of BST; which is more of a mechanic that already exist.

I just want to switch the chocobo to one of my retainer. Would be much more cool imo.

It would be something more for me to do. Nothing left to level, I don't feel comfortable doing savage and I just haven't been able the muster the motivation to smacking harvesting points for hours on end.

No, but I guess it'd be some other thing to do + some people definitely want it for nostalgia's sake. Nothing wrong with that.

I'd like my golem Magitek Reaper from ARR as a customizable companion.

Yoshi-P specifically said they will not do any more classic FF jobs in XIV. So that means we’re never getting Beastmaster (or Geomancer lol). XIV will only have ‘unique’ jobs like Reaper from now on

See, I am still wondering how many asterisks there are attached to that statement, take SGE for example, Sage is a classic FF Job on paper, but FFXIV's depiction of Sage is completely unique, at least in terms of aesthetics, likewise, things like "Beastmaster" are... incredibly generic by itself, it is a concept present in too many fantasy settings to count, which is to say, there are too many ways to give it unique spin behind it.

...which is to say nothing of him outright changing his mind about it, let's be real it has happened before, a lot, and dev sttatements in this game are loose guidelines at best.

Just make Beastmaster a pokemon minigame. It would be massively better than stuff like Triple Triad even if they somehow made it really scuffed.

we do need a new gathering class something that gathers animal parts, relying on mob drops for leatherworker/alchemist is a massive pain

This of course gets picked up by gaming websites as 'FFXIV boss says no more classic jobs in future expansions' because that gets more clicks, and then naturally gets reposted into this subforum with an even more sensationalist title.

Personally, as someone who likes slowly working through FFXIV's various achievement systems, I like having collectibles that I can work towards over time, be it Triple Triad cards or Bozja Field Records. The main thing that I would want out of any BST addition is a Bestiary which lets you add collectable entries to a journal with lore snippets. (They could always add something similar for the Unending Codex if you could do something similar to Octopath's Scrutinize/Inquire path actions in towns).

And how would you get animal parts if not by killing them like we do now ?

I want BST as I think it would be fun. They could either make it a capturing thing or item summoning.

I would love beastmaster only if it's not a limited job.

Otherwise, yeah, I actually do kinda like the idea of just... reskinning the chocobos with "captured" creatures.

An expanded Companion system is exactly what I'd want a BST limited job to be.
As a BST, you'd be able to:
A. Tame and acquire other companion creatures besides Chocobos.
B. Unlock additional skills for companions, including Chocobos.
C. Take any companion with you into a duty.
D. Compete in the Masked Carnival with your companion.

As a non BST you'd be able to call any of your companions (tamed via BST) in the same way you can currently call the Company Chocobo, out in the open world.
So unlike BLU, this limited job would actually be enhancing your gameplay outside of the job itself.

We kinda had that in 1.0. It was lead behind the barn to be replaced with the chocobo companion system. It'll never come back because that's how XIV works for some reason.

Beastmaster as a regular class would likely just repurpose old SMN gameplay, back when the Egis actually did things other than sit around looking (questionably) pretty.


Though as a limited job it would very likely just be a pokemon styled "minigame"... Which probably could also mess around in regular content much like BLU can...

I just am personally vehemently against the concept of limited jobs and would prefer to see them as actual jobs with their minigames attached as side content. Not being able to take one of your favorite jobs in the series into content that's relevant (current extremes, savage, and ultimates) is a massive feels bad man.

Sadly, if they implemented BST, it'd likely have an AI companion which is going to be jank af.

Something I could see potentially causing less jank would be something like your character doesn't have a pet, but instead takes on an aspect of a beast, like the silhouette of the creature kind of appears on your character, and you gain abilities appropriate to that creature, and the silhouette participates in the actions.

So like, say you aspect into coeurl. You get a basic claw attack. Your character does whatever animation, maybe it imitates clawing, and the coeurl silhouette also does some sort of claw animation.

I don't know, this is just off the top of my head and definitely still has issues probably, but it still fits the theme of a beastmaster kind of. Considering there have been different versions of beast masters in the series that don't all work the same (FF5 beastmaster was basically a summoner), I wouldn't mind something like this. Again though, this is just me trying to think of an idea that avoids the jank of an AI companion.

I imagine beastmaster would function pretty well as a something of a melee summoner.
Ultimately the pets would just be like a mode change. Aoe pet, single target pet, etc

Everything is so homogenous at this point kind of having trouble imagining how jobs would even stand out side from aesthetics though.

What would it even be? Just pick some monster to catch and watch it fight other monsters?

I hope they add Beast Tamer in 7.0 and make it a whip using class. They could also make it use scouting gear.

I'd prefer if we get an actual job that can 'toggle on' limited mode. Like current BRD in a way.

I'd love to see more stuff like that implemented for current jobs. Like jumping puzzles you unlock with 'limited NIN' or target practice with 'limited MCH'. Kinda like old FF mini games.

I mean, FSH already has that with spear fishing. heh
That way they could also bring back regular BLU while preserving 'limited BLU'.

In the old days of 1.x we had some cutscenes with our rentainers. Maybe, the devs back then wanted to make them our companions at some point.
This was changed to make rentainers go alone through the Venture system. But, it would be good if they kept the old plans for them as well (beside the ventures), in my opinion.

The companion system definitely could use an update... Since they last touched it was sometime during ARR, when they made them not count as party members... But they didn't even update it back with Stormblood's release when they removed accuracy so now they have passives that I'm pretty sure actually do nothing.
