Should buffs work on all alliance members rather than just your party?

As a Dancer I feel real bad in Rival Wings. I can't play dynamically like in CC where everyone on my side benefits from my buffs. Instead my party has to do everything together just so that I get to make maximum use of my Dancer.

Meaning I'm actually a burden on other players who would rather be more independent and use a vehicle from time to time or split off from the rest for whatever reason. And I can't just go where I'm needed cause chances are I can't buff relevant team members there either.

My solution currently is to not play Dancer in Rival Wings.

I might be playing DNC in RW wrong but I feel like it’s only useful for merc, mid engagements and CE collection. It’s too squishy and DNC LB doesn’t affect Mechs. Might as well just swap to a MNK or something and have a guaranteed squishy kill every few “seconds” lol. Good thing is, you can swap jobs and still keep your soaring stacks.

If you figure it out and have DNC tips for me in RW, I’m all ears.

I wish stuff like cover, dance partner and blm's slide-teleport worked on inter-party members. Single target heals already do so it's like why not?

Not sure about group-wide buffs though, especially in FL. Imagine AST buffing the entire 24-man team with +30% damage, or curing waltz healing the whole raid, sounds pretty busted.

Could argue it'd be fine in RW for sure though.

I do feel people greatly overestimate the DP buffs, but being able to DP somebody from another alliance could be fun.

Although in my opinion the real problem remains the range more than anything, whether it is RW or CC. But I guess it's like kardion right? More skill expression having to swap it around constantly?

Hehe, I'm reminded of that short period where Cure III was bugged and could splash to people outside of your alliance. That was pretty fun.

I think it would be ok for group buffs to target other alliance members as long as there's a target cap to stop them from getting too out of control. AST cards, for example, could be limited so that it only hits your target and the 7 people closest to them. Though I think each buff would have to be assessed on a case-by-case basis; I don't think Everlasting Flight or Seraph, for instance, should be bound to those same limitations.

Sadly you are going to run some classes being less efficient on certain modes/maps.

DNC in RW is weird, it can provide a boost but overall everything already dies quickly so between Curing Waltz, a negligible defense boost from the fan, honing dance... what I can see being scary is Saber Dance since it can hit hard.

But as for buffs working with other alliance members? Could be interesting

I think it would be a good idea to make them work on alliance members, but it'd have to be on skill by skill basis instead of just blanket make everything on everyone work. AST LB or even just Macrocosmos working on everyone would be kinda broken for example, but there are definitely jobs that need this change like SGE, which currently has no way to heal alliance members unlike the other healers.

Make it only 1/3 of the effect on rest of the raid, full effect would be too strong, but partial effect would be interesting.

Don't you think it'd be a massive buff to Aetherial Manipulation, Thunderclap, Icarus, and Guardian? Shukuchi a little less because it can be ground targetted.

Thinking about how forward monks could play I really like the sound of it but I'm also afraid it'd be too much mobility.

Honestly for gap-closing abilities, yes, it's a bad enough annoyance in PvE that Aetherial Manipulation or Thunderclap do not work on allied players, just party members, or enemies for some reason - it never felt weirder when resorting to literally use them to escape a fight. Feels like an unnecessary and illogical artificial limitation, and hasn't aged well since the rework either.

To the question of buffs or defensives like Cover however, in large scale modes like Frontline, no, not without serious rebalancing given the current state of PvP's dynamics. Rival Wings is sorta yes-and-no, but I believe the intent in that mode is that your party sticks together to cover angles, mecha or no. Of course naturally it rarely ever goes that way, but designer mindset versus player mindset, ya'll know the drill.
