Just like FFXI, make all Artifact armor wearable by all classes

It's not just in ffxi, it's a tradition in ff games since time immemorial

The moment you mastered a job by acquiring the required JP, you could wear the outfit of another job while using the abilities and actions of the job you mastered

I think they should bring it back with artifact armor in this game, which is basically the identifiable outfits of each job

That is not Artefact Armour.

All other armour yes, artefact no, I want things to be more free but let each class have some things unique to them.

I am all for this. Unlock all gear for glamour, including AF. I think the rules used in XI would be just fine. To use a piece for glamour, you first have to be at the proper level to equip the gear normally. So for example to use a level 80 DRG boot as glam on another job, your DRG would first need to be level 80.

Immersion was tossed out the window yeaaaaars ago. This would give people reason to spend time leveling more jobs and farming up all that gear they previously had no use for.

The OP is requesting job-specific armor. In FFXI there were quests to obtain the five pieces, plus weapon, in quests that start at level 40 and continue with a quest for the final piece at level 60. The current meta (I think), is to wait until you hit level 99 to go after them.

The FFXIV equivalent is the level 90 gear you receive in a chest for completing the level 50 job quest.

Artifact Armor in FFXI can be useful at max level in some cases, as it can be upgraded. Level 90 gear loses its power once you start gearing up in Heavensward with level 115 gear. The two gearing systems are different enough that I don't see how SE could incorporate it into the game other than how they have already.

I think you may be overcomplicating the request.

Both XI and XIV have job (role) specific gear and AF. We don't need to rework how AF is obtained in XIV, just give the option to glamour it (and all the other role-specific gear) once certain requirements are met.

Yoshi already stated this will not happen in FFXIV. Stop asking.

Yea it should be unlocked when the game goes into maintenance mode at the earliest. Maybe if the whimsy strikes the Dev team they can allow non body and leg pieces of other Jobs to be glam'd OR a body or a leg slot. But not all at once. Something allowing for player expression but also limited to still incentivize playing the Job itself if you want the "full" look

My personal preference is for this to stay as is. A lot of artifact armor, particularly 2.0's ARR armor, feature historically iconic looks for the jobs, like WHM. There is a ton of cross-functional glamours and I like knowing that the iconic looks for each job are limited to the jobs they are created for.

God, the same nitpicking every time. I promise the world wouldn't end if they removed restrictions entirely and if they did, you'd be more than welcome to cater your glams to your own tastes, ignore other Jobs' gear if that's what you want, etc., but many of us would be quite happy with the extra freedom of expression...

Not the point at all. I said "I like knowing that the iconic looks for each job are limited to the jobs they are created for" - meaning when I see a white mage in that classic FF1 from the 80s robe, it's a White Mage. That has absolutely nothing to do with whether I'd wear it or not.

I'm all for freeing glamour (as evidenced by the thread in my signature) and I still think Artifact Armor should remain restricted.

After all, outside of weapons, it's the only thing that carries some type of class fantasy.

I don't really think anyone should have a say on what other players want to wear. As someone who plays DNC, I have little interest in the level 90 artifact headpiece--the ribbon--but I imagine there are a lot of players who would absolutely love to wear that ribbon as a non-DNC job. And I wish they had that freedom. Maybe someone doesn't want to wear the level 50 WHM robe, but wants the shorts instead. If you saw someone wearing exclusive the shorts, and other pieces, would you even know?

The point of the thread is to bring up that players want the freedom to wear any gear they want. We didn't have indicators for physical and magical damage for 10 years now, and lo and behold, now we do. You made an appeal to tradition, which is a weak and unreasonable argument against the thread's discussion point. I responded appropriately.

My "weak and unreasonable argument" is what the Dev's implemented and stood by for a decade.

These armors are often homages to past Final Fantasy games and characters of those exact classes. Class unique gear is something many players enjoy. There isn't even that much of it in FFXIV, and it's not like the game lacks for other options to wear.

I'm entitled to my opinion just as you are entitled to want to wear whatever you want. Nothing you say will change my opinion on the matter, so you can move on to replying to other posters. Much like the thread demanding the option to hide everyone's glamours entirely, I prefer the status quo and also feel it's in little danger of changing. So I don't need to spend all day arguing over an opinion. If the devs decided to do this, I doubt my post here would make a difference. But clearly there is a core philospophy being upheld that you find trivial or petty.

Personally, I think they should make all gear *except* artifact gear glamourable by all classes. (Keyword glamourable as having all gear just be wearable by all jobs might lead to some degenerate gameplay where tanks want to wear DPS gear to barse or something) While I want all normal gear to be availible to all jobs, I kinda feel like artifact gear in particular is supposed to be unique. If you're wearing the lv 50 DRG artifact gear, you're not wearing 'maiming gear', you're wearing DRG gear. It kinda feels weird to take that unique look and apply it to something else, whereas taking normal maiming gear and letting a tank use it for glamour doesn't have that same issue.

So why not free up all options all together. The entire moonward set is an homage to FFIV, offering equipment options for Cecil, Kain, Rydia, Edge, and Edward, but a DNC can wear Edward's armor, a WHM can wear Rydia's armor (in white), and a WAR can wear Cecil's armor. Cloud, Squall, Zidane, Firion, Tidus, Yuna, Lightning, Snow, Noctis, and even the FF1 Warrior of Light's armor is wearable by every job. Vaan, Balthier, Penelo, Basch, and Larsa's armor is wearable by multiple jobs as well. Fran's can be worn by any job as long as you're a female Viera.

There's no reason to continue holding old artifact gear hostage for shallow reasoning.

Ah, it's something you think you want, but when you see the travesty that other players will do with such freedom you will regret your desire.

FFXI Lockstyle is practically unlimited. If you've got a job leveled, then you can lockstyle the pieces onto any other job in any winning combination. The goofiness of seeing a WHM with an Apocalypse Scythe is entertaining at first, but it quickly looses its appeal.

Not too mention, people genuinely thinking terribly bad looking gear combos look good.

Honestly, I'd almost rather they swoop in and take away that aspect of lockstyle from FFXI. People have 0 fashion sense in 11. Ooof

I see what your saying in the inconsistency, but I prefer job-specific gear that was released in that manner to stay that way. I always personally liked having some gear options that were a badge of honor for being dedicated to certain classes.

I prefer XI's system hands down. Who cares if Joe Shmoe is looking ridiculous? More likely they're just running by you, but if you're lucky enough to have them in your party, you can at least feel smug about your fashion superiority...or something. It's not like we don't already have that in XIV.

And that isn't reasonable. The only glamour that should matter is your own. Anyone else's is their business that they are paying for. If aesthetic roleplay were a pillar of game design to the design team, then they shouldn't have introduced free-for-all gear like Cloud's and Zidane's and so on. They shouldn't have introduced "Joke" gear like swimsuits and chocobo mascot outfits. But they did, so clearly aesthetic roleplay is not a pillar of FFXIV's game design. Having some gear that is and some that isn't is just silly and an ancient concept to modern MMOs.

But it is reasonable. Lots of MMOs have class-specific gear in some manner, and I always enjoyed having this on my chosen class.

You don't value class-specific gear whatsoever, which is fine. I am not trying to change your mind because it really doesn't matter to me what your opinion on the issue is. I only stopped by to share mine on the topic. There are also quite a few people in this thread who agree with keeping artifact armor exclusive, so maybe you can reply to them and try to change their minds or something? Mine's pretty set.

I don't find the issue of swimsuits and whether some glamours look good or not to be relevant to the discussion for me - you can respond with that to the poster who brought up that issue. I just think it's another topic unrelated to artifact armor remaining exclusive.

I don't know how people can honestly say they want the outfits to remain unique because of "style cohesiveness" or some other nonsense.

Just wanted to add a small point. "Tradition in ff games since time immemorial" is primarily jobs wearing only appearances for their job, and if they change jobs, they no longer wear the old job's armor because the sprite or outfit changes to the new job being played. At least outside FF11, which I never played and can't speak on.

Yeah because taking away more options is always good in games? The fact is, nobody is going to care nor they should care what other people wear. A lot of the aesthetics in this game has already botched the unique class fantasy feel with tons of glams and armos being worn by all classes (may I remind the pvp armor sets?) Them lifting the restriction isnt going to affect anyone's gameplay more so than it already has with the amount of meme glams you see running around.

The reason why this matters is that a lot of the restrictions on various pieces makes no sense why they couldnt also be used for other jobs. Let people have their fun with building their outfits.

If that doesn't bother you, someone wearing SGE's robe as a SCH, BRD's pants as a RDM, or GNB's gloves on a NIN won't bother you either. Immersion isn't my argument at all. That ship has sailed a LONG LONG time ago. One person even joked about my monk glamour. I said, "I keep losing the roll on this armor" and someone in party said "oh so that's why your naked" lol.

My argument is finding enjoyment in knowing there are just a few things here and there that remain unique and exclusive to the class I've chosen to play. I've always enjoyed those little special items that only my class could wear.

To some, they don't care about this whatsoever and their desire to use said items on other classes trumps this. But for others like myself, in a game with tons of glamor options already, having a few special appearances reserved here and there are nice and motivating.

I did simply state my opinion, but then someone decided to quote and respond, resulting in the discussion.

If they did unlock these I would not actually care all that much either. I'd just be losing a small aspect of the game that I like, and I clearly don't feel as strongly about keeping them locked as some do about unlocking them.
