If you guys know about the rising event back in 2018, the event is about retelling what happened in ul'dah during the 7th umbral era calamity in 1.0.

I'd love it if they did that. I've watched the Youtube "documentary" about 1.0 and despite all of it's flaws I'd really love to experience that story-line, or key parts of it. I did wonder at one point if the devs were going to do a "return to the past" style expansion similar to how FFXI did where the WoL returns to the time around 1.0 but it's part of a different story-arc to prevent something else from happening at that time (i.e. something/ someone goes back in time to ensure Bahamut succeeds in wiping out the planet and the WoL has to stop them whilst also avoiding their past self).

It might have been great nostalgia for the 1.0 players, but I don't remember feeling like it was anything special for me. Just fight some monsters in a giant rush, then it was over.
The only potential excitement for a repeat would be which rare items might come back, if the player response to the non-replicas last time hasn't scared the devs off. Perhaps we could finally get a chance at replicas of the old pre-order earrings or something. -

Ah, I can see that. The nostalgia was nice for people who played before the dalamud calamity. My game account is a bit older than my forum join date so I got to play that crazy period in 2012 when voidal enemies were invading sanctuaries and eventually a massive attack inside Ul'dah. It's the excitement of stuff that could never normally happen is now happening, one time only, a literally world-changing event to destroy the old game.Quote:

Whilst I definitely like the idea, this anniversary is to celebrate a decade since the 'A Realm Reborn' relaunch and I suspect they'll focus on that moreso than the 13th anniversary (1.0) of the game as whole.

Focusing on A Realm Reborn more than 1.0 for the 10th anniversary makes sense, but I'll admit I've wanted something that lets us go through some form of the 1.0 story ourselves for... well, a decent while. I didn't start playing until Shadowbringers, so there's no nostalgia; just wanting to have some ability to 'experience' that storyline, even if a more summarized/condensed version.
I'll admit I don't really expect anything like that, and at most we'd probably just get a direct rerun of the 2018 Rising event if something like that did happen (which I also wasn't around for, so can't speak to it), but I definitely like the idea of getting some version of 1.0 to experience in-game. -

Thus, in essence, we "pray return to the Waking Sands" one final time -- to the place where it all began, symbolically, back in 1.x -- to bid our farewell to Minfilia.
Anywhere that I find value in the 1.x story at this point, it's almost always tiny little details like that. And a broad summarized form of the 1.x storyline would largely not actually give people those little details. Sure, they'd get some, but... I'm just not sure there'd be much benefit to it compared to just watching the YouTube videos or reading the 1.x MSQ summaries you can find on the web.
I feel like the dev time is better spent moving forward as a result, rather than looking back. -

I'd be for it. If I remember it was a good source for XP for leveling alt jobs. I think it has some rewards too...most of them being consumable emotes. I hate consumable emotes. Just make it a permanent you might have to grind a little for rather then "Good job. You can do a firework 5 times".

It's like a person who had a difficult past trying to distance from their own childhood or emotions and stuff when the best answer is to accept that part of yourself as well so that you can be a whole person.
I don't know what they'll give us, but I'll probably like whatever it is. Just saying you don't have to be a 1.0 vet to care about what happened before 2.0... -

I remember the 1.x version of the game and the possibility we had to start the game as a gatherer since lv1 (which I considered amazing for RP stuff and all)...
About the topic, yeah! I totally agree!
I believe Yoshi Team will do a big live (maybe 24hs streamming?) showing us a lot of stuff hidden or curious things in the game production and the devs since day 1. While, inside game, we get a lot of events like this with nice prizes related to each milestone in this 10 years road. :)
And... maybe, some annoucements about the future... big reveals like... shaking news... (maybe, new engine? maybe Hroths and Vieras revamps for hats and hairstyles?? maybe new big contents inside game such as blitzball???)
This will be a really nice year. I can see that :)

1.0 doesn't exist and most people didn't play it so it's fine to reuse, although the event in question had very little to do with 1.0 really, it was based on the server shutdown event that happened after everyone's character data was finalized and it was kinda a "just for fun" thing for people whose subs were active when they stopped taking subs. -

Having it be any different would require a mass-scale rework of the game, and at that point you might as well have a repeat of 2.0 anyway and wait for years until they do.
Saying "I've been playing since 1.0 and I'm tired of the old story" isn't indicative of anything. Because what else do you expect to happen now, them opening a random arc just like that? At this low a level? When the game's events are specifically strict because people are just now finishing repair work and coming out of the Umbral Era? Where Ishgard is still hostile to strangers, Ala Mhigo is still under Garlean control, Yanxia is under Yotsuyu's control and there's been zero successful liberation movements to prompt Dalmasca and Bozja to start trying? Where Gridania is still stuck in its "lets not hurt the elementals" ways, Limsa is still the first to pull out and still harassing beast tribes over resources, and the Monetarists turn Ul'dah into a non-involving nation?
"It's not my job to figure that out for them" is one thing. Another thing entirely is a demand that just isn't feasible with a bit of thought. Maybe they can write something, but due to the game's structure and narrative, they won't. Even if they do, for all intents and purposes, at that point in the story where the event is going on, the Calamity is still very much a fresh topic. Any further than that and you'd need people to be ahead in the story. You can get Horizontal stuff, but some things will still be locked out. If you have a Horizontal thing at, say, lv 60 all of a sudden, you can't mention Ala Mhigo, Doma, Bozja, Dalmasca, the Moon, Dynamis, the First, the Eorzean City States starting to come together... Because all that good sweet development is unfortunately tied to another story's progression. -
