Cure II and Version 2.0

I've been telling myself I shouldn't post this but... uh.
Whatever.

We've all seen the concept art and screenshots for Version 2.0 which were released. We've all had to change our pants. Some people several times.

What I'm posting about here is a little something in the top left corner of this screenshot.

See the spells?
We have Cure II and Firaga being cast by the party. The Dragoon also has his standard abilities set (True Thrust, Leg Sweep, Doomspike and the like ~)

Currently we don't have access to Cure II and Yoshida (God bless him!) has mentioned that we will be gaining new abilities in version 2.0.

I'd love to be able to swap out current Bard abilities for more songs ~

A dev team said that the spell are from last year oct and that why you see it on the 2.0 system that would be gone once they redo the system to the current 1.0 spell system.

It's a little curious why some of the old tiered ability names would be in the E3 2.0 screenshots if they really are "undoctored, 100% real-time in-game screenshots" as they say. But yes, SE has officially stated that in the 2.0 release, the old Tier II/III spells will not be returning.

You do know 2.0 been in the works since at least last year..right? "real-time" means it's an actual build and not an artist work of art. We had tier spells up until fairly recently.

Yeah, but the tier spells were phased out around the same time as the jobs were introduced. And in those screenshots, players are playing on jobs, using job abilities (Dragonfire Dive, etc). It seems like the system in the screenshots is a mishmash of old and new, it's just odd. I'm not trying to imply any deception by SE here, it's just strange.

I agree, more choice for bards would be awesome. Some debuff songs would be most welcome and perhaps some stuff like evasion+ and status resists.

They may have updated classes around the time jobs were introduced, but that doesn't mean they changed the classes in the 2.0 build when jobs were introduced. They simply added the jobs to the 2.0 build. They left the classes in their original form (with tiered abilities.)

Ya, the job data is original so of course in 2.0 it'll alrdy be there. However 2.0 was being produced while the 1.0 abilities were still there and the new abilities were still being implemented so they kept the old abilities there as a placeholder while still creating the new class abilities. Even after the class changes in 1.0 it just doesn't make sense to implement the changes into 2.0 if you are not testing the battle content at the time. Once they actually get around to testing battle content then they can add the 1.0 class abilities and by doing that they saved themselves the time they would have spent having to change both 1.0 and 2.0 class abilities every-time they made alterations to the way the 1.0 class abilities worked.

Heh its a bit of a miss-step by SE to not have spotted these and changed them.

I'm a little surprised they haven't changed this stuff over in the 2.0 client already, especially considering how Yoshi-p was saying how they tested certain aspects of the new battle system and got it working as close to the 2.0 client as they could.

Something isn't adding up here.

While I see your concern, "Battle System" could refer to any number of things that don't require the updated skills. Damage and Enmity algorithms, combo directions, battle regimen functions.

I'm sure that once 2.0 is updated and the new skills are placed in where the old ones were, the Alpha and Beta adjustments will come as needed.

What motivated me to post this thread was that the abilities in play were a mix of the old and current abilities. We didn't have access to Firaga before and now we don't have access to Cure II, what gives?

I also wanted to promote discussion about the thoughts and feelings or new potential abilities for classes.
Perhaps new abilities on GLA would make a DRK branch off legit but it seems this part of the thread died a long time ago ~

Is Firaga a BLM ability? If so, that would make sense, since they just put BLM in without revising THM. Likewise, Cure II would be there because it was a CNJ ability before the Cure skills were pushed into one.

So the old class skills remained while the job skills were put in with it.

Fire was a Conjurer ability. You could toggle it to AoE and for a stronger cast you used the higher tier versions ~

Maybe they just renamed Cura to Cure 2 to make it more obvious which was stronger

This also means that the same Fire still exists in the 2.0 build at the moment as well, even with Firaga being AoE.

You're missing my point

Firaga didn't exist before the reform
Cure II doesn't exist after the reform


When is this screenshot supposed to have been taken?
It's already been stated that the tier'd magic isn't coming back so I think we can put that discussion to one side

It was taken during Internal Testing.

Nothing to see here.

Maybe they added the new skills on top of the old skills. There is no reason that the developers of the game can't do whatever the hell they want with abilities. Stop speculating about some conspiracy and take SE's word on the situation.
