Opinions on DoL ability activation.

What does everyone think of the way the DoL abilities get activated right now? It's nice cuz you don't have to think about it when they activate but at the same time it would be nice if there was a system where you could activate them kind of like the anima system but refreshes faster.

I would say have it work just like the crafting abilities, but nonbattle classes are getting reformed in 2.0 so I'll just wait until then.

I personally think DoL needs as great an overhaul as crafting did in the last big patch. Abilities and their integration is very poor at the moment, gathering stats matter so little at r50, new gear is needed.

Not to mention the only worthwhile ability at r50 is "masters of" and the rest are pointless.

edit: sorry to answer your question properly, I think activation of abilities doesn't matter as EVERYTHING needs to change about the abilities and DoL in general. As it stands though, with a good setup getting "masters of" to proc every 2-4 nodes is about right. I'd like a mix of abilities that you can proc yourself, and some that are chance based too.

Add in abilities to gather multiple electrum/DS/cobalt with each hit, an ability to increase HQ hugely by only allowing 1-2 hits at a node. Add a one hit guaranteed HQ with the item placed at a random place on the gauge etc.

I actually always have mine turned off 'cause they slow me down. Take from that what you will.

you have sweat of brow turned off? that's the only one i have equipped, given the nature of the ability lol

I've been 50 for a long long time, so yeah. Haven't needed that in ages :P.

I would like to see a "GP" as I have seen "CP" in the new SS's, as you can use a low "GP" skill on the 2nd attempt or use a high "GP" skill on say the 4th attempt. Also having a skill proc on the last attempt then having it fade after is silly, have it stay for say 30sec~1min so I could run to the next node and still have it.

I actually like the way DoL stuff is atm, it let's me read while im doing it. Although if I could put Hasty Hand on FSH, OMAN!

What do I think of DoL ability activation?

Its terrible you can go hours straight with no abilities activating, then 9 times out of 10 they activate on the last couple of strikes, the potency is not even enough to make this viable. Too many time I have been lucky enough for Master of Rock to proc on the 2nd or 3rd strike and I don't get one HQ (with decent perception as well) I wouldn't mind them procing in this time frame if for example there was an 80% HQ discovery rate from the ability but it doesn't seem to affect it much, in fact stacking perception will get a better HQ rate than Master of Rock/Fish/Trees(?).

We either need abilities to activate more often or make them more potent. This is what I said in the players poll (but for some reason most didn't agree with me)

well ya as said, Yoshi mentioned in one of the E3 interviews that gatherers and crafters will be getting a tp type system as well. I am looking forward to that, because I agree the current system is a bit silly

I think they should just turn them into traits or something, would be a lot more helpful.

I'm not a big fan of the current gathering system at all, after leveling Miner and Botanist.

What bothers me the most is the very slow exp climb after level 40, and it gets much worse after level 45, where the EXP rate stays the same at this point.

The fact that you can effectively farm off grade v nodes at 35 bothered me, as well as getting your last ability at level 38. It's basically after this point, all it matters are stats as you level up. At this point it's like "Oh, hey. I can find and mine Grade V nodes, no need to rush in exp anymore" unless you REALLY want that level 40 and 50 achievement.

During the leves, what bothered me the most is the fact that sweat of brow gets activated RIGHT as I finish a leve. This happened to me very consistently, and it bothered the hell out of me. I can't tell you how many times I've seen "Sweat of Brow activated" and then "Assaying Iron Lake completed!" in the log. I felt trolled there. :|

I am looking forward to the big gathering overhall when 2.0 comes, because, seriously. this needs to be fixed. Badly.

Seriously though, I started this game over [I never got far to begin with], so I'm completely unfamiliar with what I'm doing half the time, and these so-called abilities don't really show up for me? I feel like the DoL system is a bit cryptic in some respects.

I'm.....pretty whatever on this topic. It's annoying when I get master of rock when I only have one attempt left and it's brimstone. But then again, I have Master of Rock with 5 attempts left, and I still don't really get anything worthwhile. Same with King's Yield. So it's whatever.

Basically, when you equip the abilities, you don't always get them. They will be 'activated' on its own quite randomly. In other words, the game chose when you can use the abilities. Not you. You just equip what you may get to use.

As for the 'bar' and 'strike' area. There's basically a sweet bar, that makes you would be more likely to farm a certain item. It's a little hard to explain how that works.

DoL takes a little time get used to, but once you understand how the gauges work and how you can use it to your advantage when you're looking for a particular material, it'll be pretty fun and profitable.

I feel like I somewhat understand hit zones for botany, but mining throws me for a loop, I'll be honest. Strike zones seem so random sometimes, I don't know. Thanks for the info, though.

It's really not random. The chop zone is pretty much the same as the strike zone. The more you level up, the more sense this would make anyway.

Noted. I guess I'll just try and work on it some more then. I'll get a sense for things eventually.
