A spell without parallel!
Considering Gaius was entrusted with it, and failed (although to be fair he didn't even know the spell was contained in the Weapon's core)... I don't have much confidence in BLM ever getting it I'm afraid.
(That and the spell was lost when the Ultima Weapon exploded).
Ironically enough, this was more or less how it was learned in FF Tactics - a certain enemy in a particular battle would use it and Ramza had to be his starting Job class (Squire) and be hit by it (and survive!) in order to learn it, it was the only way to get it in the game (this explained why Ramza's Squire Job never stopped gaining JP even after unlocking all abilities and traits). So, there is precedent (Ultima after all in many FF games is not considered Black Magic or necessarily associated with the Job exclusively).
Mao is hopings that at some point BLMs will gets DRAAAAAGON SLAAAAAVE. Is bit too much to ask for?
I hope we get it! RELEASE... ULTIMA!!!!!
Do you have a heart of Zabik to just carry around?
Thought so.
I still remember when ppl first found out meteor was programmed as an actual magic spell in FFXI long long long ago via the command that displayed recast timers... lol
As for Ultima. FF6 had it as the ultimate non element black magic damage spell. The remake of FF4 they did on the ds or 3ds added a feature that allowed you to acquire character's unique actions then add them to other party members. Ultima was one of the results that could happen with twin magic if performed by Cecil and Rosa if I remember correctly.
FF Tactics A2 I think had Ultima as more of an attack type as I recall each job getting it's own Ultima themed skill, Ultima Charge, Ultima shot, Ultima Blade, etc... Or it might not have been every job but an ultima type attack for each race unlocked through one of the jobs that race could select.
The other thing about ultima is it's damage and visuals have varying impact depending on game. As examples I remember being wowed by it when I first used it in FF6 due to the full screen visual effect and seeing it hit 9999 on everything on screen. However feeling meh about it on a couple of the titles afterwards because the damage wasn't as impactful due to not hitting everything in sight for 9999 on top of later titles also having enemies with alot more HP on top of it's visual effect not being as prominent or flashy. Even FFXIV's Ultima is outshined by a little girl wearing an eyepatch yelling EXPLOSION...
they will when the the company decides to give it to them.
Only if you force the enemy to watch an unskippable cutscene
I was gonna say something about how Ultima could potentially be an upgrade to Foul that forces you to choose between using Xenoglossy for movement or Ultima for higher damage at the cost of movement, but then I remembered Foul is instant cast now :/.
It could honestly act similar to Dragoon's Wyrmthrust where you get from using Raiden's Thrust/Draconian Fury instead you get charges from using Foul/Xenoglossy. It would mean an additional button and being reliant on having Enochian up all the time but still something similar could be done as base idea.
Ultima was never a Black Mage exclusive spell, I mean a White Mage in earlier FF could use Ultima
Not before we get Firaja, Blizzaja and Thundaja adjecent spells (so Fire 4, Blizzard 4 and Thunder 4) I hope.
man, trying to learn ultima for ramza in war of the lions was such an awful experience
well... they could just make you earn special points by doing things with the Paladin shield equipped since this game doesn't have a slot to equip magicites... but then I guess that would make ppl have to lvl PLD in order to actually equip the shield needed... >.>
If you know how to manipulate the AI, it gets a little easier. Put a female unit close to Celia and Lede at Limberry Castle and Ramza out of their reach. Make sure that unit has the Black Costume and Angel Ring equipped to make them immune to Instant Death and Stop (already immune to Charm because also female). Rather than do their usual assassination techs, they'll attempt to cast Ultima on that unit, so move Ramza right next to them before it goes off, and boom, easy Ultima.
I would imagine no, much like how we won't get Ardor from XII in XIV (I'm pretty sure one of RDM's spells/skills would have been called as such if it wasn't used in the story, much like Meltdown in XI being fenced off in the ENG client, Merton was added as a SCH spell but for the ENG client it was renamed Kaustra as Meltdown was used similarly to how XIV used Ardor in the lore [as a synonym for a cataclysmic event the enemy faction was working towards], that's my assumption though because Kaustra is a swerve but in all fairness the localization team was probably sold on the name Kaustra [as it is a really good name for a FF spell])
I still have two belts I'll keep for posterity. And this:

You can also still find listings for Elemental Materia in the MB
My guess is he didn’t follow instructions. I remember people saying this didn’t work and they were using other methods to block the status effects so they could use a really power armor…. Only that armor made their magic resist so high the ai calculated the physical attack was better.
