DRK's make frontlines not fun.

On OCE i noticed something recently, Most teams are now made up of tanks with a huge portion being Dark Knights.

Every time i see someone sitting on 1 HP, not dyeing, and ignoring stuns or other control ability's making a casual escape, maybe taking out an enemy or two while doing so is just annoying.

Getting caught by one and pulled into the enemy group, popping esuna and trying to run only to be pulled back in by 10 others at the same time leaving you feeling like a ping pong ball is just dumb.

They are oversaturating Frontlines, groups of them always seem to be able to focus a single person and curbstomp them effortlessly, a single DRK has no issue surviving an ENTIRE alliance of players taking out a number and escape like its nothing.

Hell as a DNC, their pull has longer range than my attacks, and im a freaking Range DPS! En Avant wont even help me 9 out of 10 times! A move that feels pointless to begin with since a single stun or slow means my job is a free kill.

Some jobs are just way to OP and need rebalancing, Not this FOTM crap where one job is set to OP while everyone else is free game.

See? That wasn't so difficult now was it? Stop giving single jobs all 3 while giving others None!!

Every adjustment is made for Crystalline Conflict and getting 50% overall win rates on all jobs. They have not shown any willingness to adjust abilities based on their performance in other modes. The only Frontlines-specific adjustment that was done to abilities is the PLD Cover and that took more than 6 months of constant complaining and that was a very cheap exploit.

The best you can probably hope for is some Frontlines number changes like a dmg down on DRK, similar to what they did to SCH, WHM and SMN.

Every AOE abilities that works in Crystalline Conflict is amplified in Frontlines because you just have... way more players. Your SCH biolysis can spread to 5 enemy targets ? Now you can spread it to potentially up to 48 people. You can pull 5 people on DRK ? Now you can pull up to 48.

Unless they start limiting the amount of players that can be affected by abilities, you're gonna see a lot of DRK/DRG combos because pulling more than a dozen people in a single spot is perfect for LBs like dragoon. DRK is extremely broken in Rival Wings as well. The middle train is pretty much decided by how many DRKs you have on your team.

I feel your pain for DNC, it has nothing going for it in Frontlines. The range of its attacks is way too small. Good luck getting in range to cast your LB and using Honing Dance without melting.

Frontlines is just heavily imbalanced and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

You are asking for CC resistance and Fetter Ward

CC resistance and Fetter Ward worked on the following:
- Stun
- Silence
- Sleep
- Bind
- Heavy
- Knockback/Draw-In (same CC type)

prior to patch 6.1. While for Crystalline Conflict it may not be a good choice to bring back CC resistance, Frontlines and Rival Wings are a whole different beast given player count. Either or both need to return, with priority on large-scale-PvP CC resist after having suffered the effect previously.

DRK pull has counterplay. But the easiest thing to do is to guard immediately if you are pulled by a DRK. run away after the onslaught of AoE skills get thrown at you. You usually only have to worry about a RPR/DNC/WAR breaking your guard with LB, but most times it WILL save you.



On the note of counter play, there are quite a few jobs that can counter DRK pull setups. For a sacrificial play, but RPR and DNC can dash passed a DRK to his allies and LB them. It will slow down the follow up and give your alliance time to react and escape. SGE can protect your party of you set down your LB when you see a DRK jumping in. WHM, like DNC and RPR, can LB the group behind the DRK to slow them down, even if you a moment. That moment is enough to save a whole lot of people. This is not even every option and these are all option you can do solo. Meaning you don't need to rely on more than one person to counter that pull. Obviously you arent going to catch every single one, but you can prevent massacres and deny BH a couple of times a match, which is very valuable.


I ended a group of BH and multiple DRK pull setups with my DNC. Not only were we able to come back because of it (the score was like 200/600/1300 with us in last) but we even won that match. The point is that you need to work your strategies and tell people to watch out for it. As much as people like to meme up FL, you do have to use your brain and you can have major impacts on games.


I disagree with adding Fetter Ward to FL. While it seems it would help people from getting caught, it would also make setting up those kills even easier and harder to counter since the DRK and their allies also have access to it. 30 seconds in not a lot of time in FL. Use guard more often even just for its anti-CC effects. Guard is preemptive, Purify is reactive.

adding what you are asking for would make sense, but not without also bring in changes to DR as well. In the current state I don't see that adding in resist to heavy/bind , for example, while still allowing melee to keep their current DR against healers/casters would be reasonable.

Damage Reduction made Frontlines not fun.
Now it's just melee damage and tanks running around having fun while everyone else deals with hitting a brick wall (with some of those having ranged attacks and escapes as well).

They haven't done much to Frontlines since so I doubt they are going to touch it.

Absolutely correct. The damage reduction in the current state is implemented to deal with the onslaught of crowd control to give people a chance at surviving.

IF the switch flips to introduce CC resists again, the DR would need to be reduced a fair bit, however I'd be careful by how much I'd reduce it. but certainly not keeping the -60% the melees and tanks have right now.

While i appreciate the advice and can see how it would work in the right circumstances, The issue on OCE is, we get 2 hours a day where frontlines are active, in that time there are 2-3 'guides' providing macro info and assigning targets, DNC seems to be a primary as i will always have an entire team of sometimes 30+ players target me all at once and flatten me after using every CC in the book at the same time with some staggered for Esuna use, using Guard? seems worthless, i still take damage when its up as some ability's ignore it, and those ability's get used a lot.

Its impossible to use a DNC LB, people dont run from it, they dont panic, they simply target and kill you before the cast finishes, and as i learned in CC, it only takes 1-2 people to kill a DNC if they are stunned, our defense's just dont provide enough to survive the cast time of our LB, nor to get in and do any meaningful damage and get out unscathed, Sure it works well if the enemy team eat glue and have no clue how to use a keyboard, but lets be real, 9 out of 10 times with the matchmaking system? You are on the glue eating team with the enemies being highly skilled masters of every job and perfect execution lol. (Or lets be real here, likely bots with how little they slip up and how fast they counter.)

I cant really do much when the opponent's somehow know every jobs skills by memory and have elaborate plans on how to counter every other job they are ready execute flawlessly every time before you even step out of respawn.

I wish i could say i was a skilled player, but i really cant, and in this games PvP environment? Especially with the 2 hours a day active time on OCE? Im not going to get to learn. All that getting targeted by an entire team and flattened like they are a hive mind is, dont go near the enemy team, and everyone's melee range is more than DNC range attacks.

The average DRK can be countered but once you actually get a team that can cover it like... a Paladin which is also one of the roughest class to deal with then good luck. This is not even complaning since it's not common to find and it is much harder to pull if you do not have premades but there you go, a Dancer can be easily shutdown since the Charmed effect isn't instant like Reaper's Hysteria so you need a tank\healer to make sure it doesn't get nuked.
Regardless all 4 tanks are deadly in FL, you have 2 who have 10 sec invulnerability (Paladin and Dark Knight), 1 that removes guard, can't be CC under LB aside Imp and lower your damage with Orogeny and 1 that has a fast LB regeneration and can wipe full groups if not focused (Gunbreaker) with a buffed LB and a buffed Nebula.

Straight up it's Frontline, there should be a proper balance and not just stat wise like the horrendous damage reduction, there has to be a check on how some abilities behave etc.

I mostly post this because i still enjoy Frontline and there is plenty of times i had a blast but sometimes i wonder how the game would look if the mode was properly mantained. It took so long to finally get rid of the interaction Guardian Cover but still Paladin is a monster in stalling\defending and makes other classes' play much easier and harder to counter as an example. Ninja remains king in tanky ranged harassment and can just sit back and not worry on over committing and just be ready to LB from afar and even if it is on melee range, it can easily tank and escape. I thought before 6.1 dragoon would be annoying to fight, i was not ready for this lol

Unfortunately, the balance shouldn't base on the unique circumstance of a region for a multi-national mmorpg like FF14.
Not to mention your reason is only because you can not survive one a specific job
That is now how job balance works, especially when it comes to PvP.
DRK strategy has many counters.
Are you saying the job need to be chance because the team your pair up with is incompetence?
I mean, your team has DRK, PLD, and WAR and they decides doing nothing when DRK charge in to setup?
That doesn't make any sense at all

For people trying to give advice you havent seen the level of cheese going on in that server, in the last game of PVP I played on OCE before moving back to JP last week there was a four man pre made Drk/War group. They were all toxic, clearly taking advantage of the newer player base on OCE and I decided if PVP would only be active for an hour or two that it just wasnt worth having groups like that be in charge of it all. They use the whole server to meme n mess around with broken kits that they know would get properly countered and be useless on the JP server that they likely play PVP on with their mains as soon as OCE queues die.

TL,DR: Moved to JP from OCE been having more fun in PVP already (Series rank 5 to 25 in ONE WEEK and been able to get PVP queues to pop too I guess)

I don’t know where you get the idea that other region don’t have people using this DRK set up strategy

I dont know what OCE servers are like. NA has DRK comps all over the place. People just understand them and can counter them. It isn't balanced, but FL never is. The dev team straight up says they have kits balanced for small scale PVP. From what I understand based on the comments here, the problem on OCE is the lack of people PVPing. A single 4-man group being able to command an entire game that well basically means they are the only people ding it and the other 68 people are just praying to be on their team. And the only way to fix that is to get more people in FL or to get the people currently playing FL to play better. Which means you are going to have to do the thing people don't want to do in FL, shotcall. There's nothing stopping you from marking and commanding your alliance. Seems like no one but those few are actually doing that.



As for DNC, it just seems like you have to play better. Understand that you are a DNC. That means you have no damage reduction ad your damage on melees and tanks is going to suck. Don't even bother with those 15y moves unless you are poking at a straggler. And even then, you only ever want to do it to proc Saber Dance. in FL, you have only 2 objectives. Buff your dance partner and to LB big groups of people to help your alliance. You should NOT be the first person to jump in. It's up to your tanks or the enemy tanks to do that. And once that is done you make your move. If you let your tanks draw fire or the DRK CC the group, you can dash in and LB. If their DRK jumps on your group and you dash passed them to LB their group, that means they are focusing you and not blowing up your pulled alliance. You'll die, but your alliance will be alive long enough to get out of the DRK pull. After that, it's up to their own skill to not take your enemy's AoE damage when they aren't even CC'd.


If you are playing DNC by dashing into your 15y range to do damage, you are basically a free kill in FL. Stop doing that. DRK pull isn't what is at fault there.

First few games on JP I actually saw 95% DPS jobs on the post game stats. Over time I did see some cheesy healer or tank stuff but a lot less than NA honestly. Can't get away with half the stuff I do on NA or OCE in the JP games so yeah there is some kinda difference. The 4 man tank team I played with themselves said something like "Uh well we don't know if JP does the 4 man Dark thing but...." I definitely get pulled in and stunned and destroyed by tanks on JP but do I see premade tank or healer groups at the top of every game with 3 to 4 mil damage? No at least not so far.

JP frontlines do have DRK combos from time to time, they're also very coordinated since DRK mains tend to command the alliance and also have a burst countdown macro. But for most matches on JP, you'll run into the SAM meta a lot more, they just stack SAMs and try to snipe multiple people with their LB.

I am a regular enjoyer of FL games on OCE. Your issue is not pressing guard when the very obvious DRK charges at you. That's all.
Enjoy JP tho, they do exactly the same stuff.

As already mentioned, repeatedly, as soon as you see your character getting drawn-in, you should instinctively be activating your Guard and crawling away from the epicenter. Most DRK draw-in comps mostly rely on players not knowing any better and only rack-up kills on people who don't activate their Guards on reaction. There's only real danger if a DNC or WAR is involved in the synchronized LBs to deny Guard usage(which I've rarely encountered on Primal, most DRK comps are all just spamming their own and other group damage LBs after the draw-in).

Honestly, this strat is way more manageable to react to and counterplay than PLD's cheap Onsal capping or SMN stacked Bahamut tactical nukes / WHM stacked laser spam pre-nerf. It's effective for now because a large chunk of the people queuing Frontlines are the iconic tic tac toe 'just a game' memers getting their daily exp/mogtomes and are the perfect fodder for getting nailed by it.

As for DNC in Frontlines, not too long ago I did think it was the worst job there, but after spending time on it now I think that's RDM with SGE as a runner-up. The thing about DNC in Frontlines is you need to be extremely opportunistic and hard to pin down. You need to be zipping in and out with En Avants (be sure to use their proc weaponskills though) and try to never be stationary or linger in the front line unless your team is pushing. As a general rule (with all jobs really), you should be identifying overextended or isolated ranged enemies as you are very unlikely to be a threat to any melee. Even if you can't pin anyone down, you can harass and build your Saber Dance for a target that you can feasibly (assist in) bursting down. You probably won't be scoring too many kills (though a single-target Saber Dance has kill potential on weakened targets), but you can easily accumulate assists.

As a general rule for myself, if I'm on a team that's oversaturated with MCHs, BRDs, casters and healers (and other DNCs), I am not going to play as DNC in that match because your team will have like no front line full of melee or tanks to speak of to hold the line for you to safely poke at people. Your LB is also largely dependent on your team; if you can't have people to hide behind to activate it, you will die if you try using it for anything other than helping finish-off a runner trying to stall/Guard near death in or out of a small skirmish. You also want your LB to be sudden and (for the most part) unexpected; don't linger near a cluster of people before using it (by then you may have already been targeted by savvy/aware players and just activating your LB is a invitation to get dogpiled on before the charmed status takes hold, and even then, 2 seconds is barely anything as your animation lock is arguably longer than the initial charm effect). Identify where you're going to use it, En Avant in, pop it, and make a split-decision if you can afford to AoE people to increase the duration or maybe pick just one person to increase it on or just En Avant back out. If you are not used to making judgement calls on when its safe to engage or not, DNC is not a good job to play in Frontlines.

This doesn't make sense. If they have ENTIRELY different abilities for PVP and PVE they can make entirely different abilities for Frontlines and Crystal Conflict.

I do not understand how they can be so bad at their jobs like this.

If you see them coming, sure. If they get their vacuum off, it's a less than 50% chance you're get Guard up in time.

A lot of the time I get wrecked through the Guard, so it feels like Guard isn't as viable as people make it to be, either due to Guard ignoring abilities, or the raw damage that comes after the DRK.

Frontlines seems to be defined by the DRK tactic, at least on OCE, and I don't see that as exactly healthy PVP balance that there is such a dominant tactic.

All spot on, Dancer is a big In and Out class, it can easily be killed the moment you misplaced yourself or linger too much/make obvious plays so it heavily relies on others. Its Dance Partner has only 1 second cooldown making it even more a class that demands more attention on the whole field, switching partner on the fly can easily help out any partners. Curing Waltz is decent if done on party stack and Honing Dance is a button that you can't just press it without care.

I still hope they balance better Dancer, at least it has its uses...

What, a healer that concentrates more on supporting the team and healing than dealing damage, who survives by applying DR and shields? Like a healer should be doing? How terrible.

Here, let me quote this again since you seem to have missed this at the first go-round " Healer: Low Survival, Low DPS, High Healing."

Let's play out how this works if the healer happens to get into a 1v1 - which I will admit beforehand is not a situation that we want to get into- but while rejoin the party, it's easy enough to find ourselves in that situation. Low survival and high healing- so , ideally, we don't die, but we're basically in a mode where we need to kite, heal and hope that we get help because with low DPS we won't kill anyone. I would even question the "low" survival. Why? because we're casters? Well there's one hell of an incentive to roll a healer lmao.

Interestingly enough, there are MMOs in which support and healing classes/jobs have skill trees or specs that allow them to run heal spec/hybrid/DPS spec in PVP. I've played those games, sometimes heal spec was better, sometimes DPS spec, depending upon the circumstances, however it was considered normal to have options for those classes and it was a welcome change to have distinct identities for each healer in PVP.

It should make you happy that in the present mode, there are healers who can supply DR as well as shields, as well as doing damage, while having a good time. Imagine, healers actually enjoying themselves just like any other job expects to do, that should make for better PVP.

If you don't notice when your character is being pulled in by an effect, you're probably a terror in Party Finder groups.

Sorry, but where did I say I wasn't reacting to being pulled in? Just that once you're in that effect, your chances of getting Guard up diminish, and you chances go up if you spot the charge/dash.

It's blind habit now to hit Guard when I see the effect, but you'd just prefer to assume the negative and insult me.

My first sentence is in reference to "Your issue is not pressing guard when the very obvious DRK charges at you". I'm agreeing to that statement, with the caveat if you can spot it :)

The second sentence says if you have to react to the vacuum, your chances of getting Guard up go down. I didn't intend it to be read not noticing the vacuum, sorry.

DNC part aside, This still brings up an issue from DRK's that im seeing from multiple posts and in practice on OCE. DRK comp groups.
How Frontlines works on OCE is, there are 2 groups of premades with DRK's and some stun jobs, im not sure which, The DRK's constantly spam macros placing down markers and chat commands to guide the group, you will see 3, 2, 1, in chat and then literally everyone from the enemy team gets pulled in, stunned and killed from full health near instantly, they literally just drop you regardless of job, including other DRK's.
I have seen one of these DRK guides single handed wipe out nearly an entire team with his burst. And im not talking about a 4 or 8 man team.
If you are on a team without a 'guide' you will not win, the 2 guide teams appear to work together, i guess they have a discord to co-ordinate the 2 different Alliances they fall on, the 2 guide teams will not attack each other more often than not, they will gang up on and pincer the non guided team repeatedly.
If say, a crystal, is up, then they will go to town on each other but if the non guided team shows up, they stop and focus that team instead of each other. (Bar the few outliers who don't follow instructions or want to finish what they see as an easy kill).
The sad part is, when these guides are not active, Frontlines isn't active, nobody on OCE will even queue up for the entire day and the moment these guides say goodbye for the night, that's the end of frontlines for the day outright.

Its frustrating, but it shows a real issue with DRKs that they can pull so many people in and kill them with ease. I have been in the middle of one of these pulls at full health with my guard up and i still dropped in what felt like a single hit.

I guess im just a bit bitter as a DNC, I see so many durable jobs, with high damage and in some cases even one hit kill moves or procs, while im not aloud defense, damage, nor even healing and only have a LB most people ignore lol. Worst part about our LB is, we dont even have to be stunned for it to be cancelled, just moved from our position, say by a DRK.
Im getting better at zipping in and out and being opportunistic, but unless I have help, I'm not going to get anyone down, i just don't have the damage to do so while the enemy is also popping their heal everyone gets.
I was told today that DNC never gets buffed because SE thinks its balanced, i fail to see what's balanced about DNC in PvP compared to, pretty much every other job lol.

Still, as long as there's no DRK;s in CC, or i don't get 5v1, I can do ok as a distraction or crystal pusher. But that is all.

From my perspective, every job got a scoop of icecream, they may not all like the flavor they were given, but DNC was given a scoop of yellow snow and told "Good enough, this is fine." I know thing's wont change, but well, can always wish they would lol.

they should just bring back fast KOs.
