What's a tackle box for key items?
Key items already have their own inventory.
You're welcome.
Can't sell retainers unless the players inventory is pitifully limited. Unbelievably enough, some players are vehemently against convenience, like Deveryn, so all threads like this get derailed in endless arguments about how we all must suck at inventory management. That's a game forum for you, i suppose.
My chocobo saddlebag has been turned into my unofficial dye storage... A tacklebox for fishing bait would be nice, even if it took up a singular inventory spot to open into another bag that held like 20 types of bait.
I think they should change tackles in general. While the specific types still exist, the inventory should only contain just 1 item for all types, similar to the dark matters for repairing. Tackles can then be downscaled so a lvl 80 one also works for lvl 50. And for lvl 90 there are still 2 versions (for the 2 scrip versions). This means its at most 11 items for tackles (8 for the first 80 levels, 2 for lvl 90, 1 for ocean fishing), but the lowest levels are often just obsolete. That way you no longer need to obtain tackles at specific vendors and barely need inventory space while still being able to fish anywhere you like. Sure, using high level tackles on lower level areas might be a bit of a waste for gil, but this rarely should be a real problem (why would you fish at a low level area normaly? if you have to do this more often you just buy a lower level tackle)
And yes, this would normaly result in a very big list of possible tackles. But the region themselve can already restrict the list of options to only valid ones. And you can just select from that list there. So instead of having 50 options, its still just limited to for example 5. Again providing a big QoL at that part.
Selling tackles on the market is already not a very interesting thing anyway (its usualy done to just ditch quest given tackles). So here there is no harm done either.
Rather than make an inventory dedicated to any specific thing, they specifically added the chcoobo saddle bag to be a "whatever you want".
That's it. There's no intention to add more bloat to your character data.
there are effectively no rare tackle. there is absolutely no need to keep any bait on hand. just go get some when you are going to go fishing. plan ahead if you're looking to go after a specific big fish.
You said it, not me. I specifically asked about the second item because I've already said what I have to say about dyes. Thanks for taking charge of that part.
I'm not opposed to any kind of change. Last time, I just presented a path to a clearer inventory. If you're still having a problem how ever many patch cycles later, it's time to consider what I suggested.... or keep waiting. I don't care. :)
I'd love to get dyes their own exclusive storage & can be carried anywhere, kinda like how we carry our shards/crystals/clusters everywhere. As somebody who often changes their glam plate dyes so often it's a bit of pain in the a** to keep having to find my retainers back and forth.
Current system works... but it could be better.
EDIT: While using Saddlebag can be an alternative, I filled mine with plethora of relic weapons to cast glams manually :( 70 slots ain’t enough to fit in all colors, too.
Leveling any crafter to 30 so you can craft dyes and just keep pigments stored away goes a long way to helping whatever problem.
By the way, versatile lures exist for use in all regions as well as freshwater / saltwater boilies for ARR. I push the versatile even more as I was recently able to hook Seven Stars in Ruby Sea.
I've been addressing my log by region, which keeps down the amount of bait I need. It's clunky for ARR, but that's why the boilies exist. Every other expansion region is more manageable if you address it on its own. I started working on this last month and I've checked off all 3 city states.
That's what I do; there's no real reason to keep dye stockpiled unless it's a standard 1-2 you use a lot. Even with the rare/currency-exchange only, there's really no reason to just...carry it around.
It's always better to get what you need when you need it and sell otherwise.
...That said, I wouldn't be against a system like GW2 for dye...but then again, FFXIV desperately needs consumables/means of removing gil from the economy...so maybe the devs originally intended this to be a gil sink?
I think it was meant to be a gil sink as well as a way to manage inventory space. There are other games out there with more space, but it's to the detriment of the player and the system. The larger the personal inventory, the more to load up every time you zone. This is why things are split up as they are and the only shared space that exists is restricted to the Free Companies.
Someone brought up retainers and I think it might be worth waiting to see what Yoshi has to say on the LL. Something big is changing with how we interact with them. This could potentially include being able to access dyes on retainerrs.
Space is only a problem if you keep everything. I was running low on space on my FC chest, my personal inventory, chocobo bag, retainers...
Then I looked at what I had...most of it was mats from older expansions/base game that I was never gonna use. I went to MB them and most went for the price it would be to just vend trash it. I cleaned house on my inventory and now have SOOO much space. If I wanna make a particular thing...I get the mats real quick and call it a day.
Honestly even if they just gave us another saddlebag or something, that'd be awesome. The moment I started leveling crafters, my inventory went straight to hell and hasn't been normal since. The FSH bait situation is so gross, and the dyes are always filling my saddlebag. Retainers storage is nice but it doesn't travel with you so it's a little inconvenient.
I'm surprised there are people against players having more storage options. Or, I should say I'm not surprised, since this is the final fantasy 14 forums, where people suggest nice ideas and then get told from the same groups of people (who are never official square reps because square won't even read our forum) that it's simply not possible, not necessary, not desired, etc.
Please stop misreading these responses as people being against more storage options. That is not the case. The fact is, if you want more storage, it's there to be purchased. It's as simple as that. There's an option to double your saddlebag and add a retainer if you like.
I've been able to play the game with only 2 retainers and I only ever bought one extra for a couple months when I was catching up on a lot of different things. I've also been fortunate to use a tab on my FC's chest for a few other things.
I'm so tired of hearing about how people struggle with FSH when they're trying to do everything at once. They made baits to address the ARR situation and you're overwhelming yourself for no good reason.
They're not going to hurt their revenue by opening up more storage for free. We are trying to help you manage your inventory and you want to kick and scream til SE supposedly caves on this idea. We wish you the best of luck. If you change your mind, you know what you can do.
Furthermore, please stop blaming others for the weakness of your suggestions. These threads come and go and barely even hit double-digit likes. We're doing you a favor by offering suggestions because these threads will never gain the traction to be visible by the team.
People just need to do some inventory management every now and then. No need to hold on to everything
There we go. Problem solved.
Rather than inventory space problem, to me it's more about the interface convenience. I still have about half empty space on both of my 2 retainers and I'd still want dyes to have their own exclusive storage.
As of now, when you'd like to color something, you have to have the actual dye pots in your personal bag. Depending on where you keep them, this means you have to go through several clicks to open/close windows and applying the color to whatever you're dyeing (Plate, Gear, Furniture, etc).
The reason I brought up the shard/crystal/cluster as comparison is because that's the degree convenience I'm hoping to see in the future: you can be economic by storing as needed or go all out by piling as much as you want. You (general you) barely even think about 'em anymore anytime you wish to craft something, since you just naturally... carry them everywhere. On top of that, it will also free up to potentially 115 slots, but that's just a collateral benefitand of course cutting through their $$ from additional retainers.
Carrying pigments certainly alleviate that somewhat, but it still won't cover the scripts/cowries & general purpose dyes.
I agree, but they may as well remove all the components and let us dye things at will.
In the meantime, it's not terribly inconvenient to have relevant tribes maxed and scrips and cowries available to handle one's needs... or ... make a friend with someone who has access.
I'd like to ask, anyone that feels the need to request a "tackle box" for fishing bait:
Exactly, and specifically, what fish are you trying to catch that you feel you require an entire separate dedicated inventory for the necessary baits?
I can tell you from prior threads here and in the DoL section, those people want to be able to hit any window when it pops.
They're probably trying to work on crafting at the same time.
Another piece of advice I would offer is to save fishing for late in the patch cycle, when the main objectives are all done. That's exactly what I did for this one and I've been checking off a lot of boxes. I'm able to bounce around to different regions because I don't have anything else jamming up my inventory. Eorzea is almost done and that's going to be a lot of space freed up.
9 retainers and still full inventory? What the hell you guys hoard on?
Dyes? I just stock the white and black color. Other rare colors are on retainer 1.
Food and pots mats? None because I just MB it.
Weapons? Retainer 2.
Armor? Glamour Dresser.
Fishing baits? Just EW latest fishing baits.
Savage books? Retainer 1.
I'm surprised that there are players who continue to ask for more storage, get detailed explanations from the developers on why it's not happening then go "NAH NAH NAH I'm still not listening! Give me more storage."
We've been told many times why storage is the way it is and why they can't give us more on a whim. They do what they can as they figure out a way to do it. That's how we got the chocobo saddlebag. That how we got the glamour dresser in the first place, then an increase to its storage capacity this expansion.
You're still going to have to learn to manage your inventory. The sooner and more frequently you work on it, the easier it gets. Give it a try.
Ultimately if there's a choice between inventory slots dedicated to fishing baits and inventory slots that anything can go in, the vast majority of people are going to want the more flexible option.
Fishing baits are also a very temporary item, you finish the expansion or even just the map and suddenly you can throw away your brute leeches or desert dessert frog lure.
Not sure why you feel the need to hold onto bait when it's specific-ish to the zone you buy it in. Buy what you need -> Fish the fish til you run out of bait-> Decide if you want more bait or not.
Also, similarly, there's no need to really hoard crafting materials when you level crafters. You can do a handful of crafting Leves/beast tribe quests and hit max level in a flash. There is no reason to just have 437 iron ingots or whatever.
It's not a problem of storage space (although everyone can agree more would be nice), it's a problem of you hoarding. The moment you got double saddlebags it'd just be immediately full with MORE dye, and you'd be back to square one.
Also, as a btw, you have potential access to up to 14 MORE RETAINERS for free. Did you know? If you pay 3 months sub at a time, it's the same price as the lowest tier of monthly subscription, except you can make a total of 8 characters instead of 1. Each of those characters has at minimum 2 retainers; all you need to do is utilize your FC chest and boom- storage for days.
The place that should store up Dyes is the Glamour Dresser - accessible when changing up glamour plates. Need to get a few pots out to dye something you didnt store in there? Easy, just click the option to extract a number out.
Also to address a post above me, I think that the ability to make multiple characters per World extended to lowest-tier subscribers as well this year, but I'm not the surest of the intricacies since I don't subscribe but rather pay for game time.
Inventory space is a finite system, and always will be. What players like me are telling players like you is that if you don't learn how to manage your inventory now, then it will always be a problem. We know that you suck at managing your inventory, otherwise you wouldn't be asking for more space for something like dyes.
Furthermore, we're not against convenience. On the contrary, I think most of us are all for it, which is why we would prefer for the dev team to not inconvenience themselves with mundane tasks that the players can take care of on their own if they just practice a little management of their own resources.
Nice ideas are not always good ideas. I think that might be the disconnect here. I'm against more storage options because managing my current inventory is already a hassle. We have multiple retainers (I have four), an armory, personal inventory, saddlebag, glamour dresser, and this is not including other inventories that can be managed such as the FC chest, along with others we constantly access such as the armoire. To this day, there still isn't a one stop place that has access to everything I just mentioned. I would sooner take that over something more trivial like separate dye storage.
You are given valid reasons why we feel the way we do. The issue you have is validity does not require a medium such as 'good' or 'bad', so all you can fall back on is saying something like, "I guess we can't we have nice things." And you just have no idea how much of an entitled statement this really is.
Too much inventory is indeed cumbersome.
In FFXI, you had your standard bag annnnnnd
Mog sack
Mog locker
Mog sachel
Mog case
Mog storage 1-2
Mog Wardrobe 1-8
Good luck remembering what is where. Oh and some only allow equipment. And some are only accessible in your private
room.
It’s like an Easter egg hunt of your own making! Fun!
Pressing F to pay my respects.
