What's a piece of Gender Locked gear that you wish wasn't gender locked?

For me the answer is simple--the Makai headpieces that are the butterfly hair clips.

They're so cute and I don't understand why they're gender locked still. My fear is that the event will come and go and Square will forget to un-gender lock them until the next time it comes (if it ever comes back).

For me, it's the Valentione's event from a year or so back, I want that tux so bad.

That particular piece may not be Square's call, since it's part of a cross-promotion with GARO, so it may be the rightsholder of GARO (TV Tokyo I think?) that is forbidding that.

Entire makai sets.
Males’ shorts—Female Speedos.

But if I want to be completely honest? All of them, really.

Oh the valentione tights are another piece that I wish male characters could wear! And the female version of the Nezha coat.

The Type-51 legs that inexplicably turn into a pair of panties if you happen to have an xx chromosome. It's like SE is afraid to give ladies a pair of shorts. Don't they know shorts are comfy and easy to wear?

no it's almost certainly the devs' fault. these are the people who gave us that travesty of a set for the monster hunter collab after all. "eorzean interpretation" lol.

Because Capcom and TV Tokyo are the exact same company with the exact same cross-promotion contract. That's why the MonHun collab isn't a permanent part of the game. Wait, it is, while the GARO collab was time-limited by the contract between Square and TV Tokyo? You mean not every crossover contract is identical? ¡Que sorpresa!

They allowed female characters to wear the best man suit and the Loyal Butler gear, so I assume the Valentione gear will be unlocked at some point soon?

Before we talk about Gender locked items, we need to talk about job specific locked gear. Wolf mark job specific gear FOR OPENERS needs to be opened up to ALL JOBS. Then we can also talk about RACE specific gear.

But you know what's even worse than gender locked gear? Gender-changing gear. Gear that changes based on gender, the absolute fucking worst.

Not only would it be easy, it's frankly baffling that they haven't done that. Like, what stops anyone from levelling classes to get the AF gear? It's not like the Didact gear doesn't fit other healers.

the only thing stopping me from making a bunboy alt is the fact I wouldn't be able to dress him up completely in female clothing

Nezha Lord's Attire. It would look so good on my WoL.

I would love it if people got to wear whatever version of gear that displays a different look based on what gender your character is. Like I love how the Neo Ishgardian tops look on guys or that they get actual pants instead of booty shorts that hide under the ladies half a skirt frilly top. I probably wouldn't mind the shorts if they actually showed a smidge. The only way I even know my character is wearing "pants" is by the knife that most of the sets have that's strapped to the thigh. Course designing so many bits and bobs only to have them be hidden by a top or the few times sleeves and footwear do it is one of the things that boggles my mind when they design these sets. I know you can just mix and match stuff, but I shouldn't have to look at my character armor screen or do an upskirt of my character just to realize I didn't forget the leg slot. Course I wouldn't want them to put something else more important to do any of this.

I think the WORST example of this are the Quan pants. On female characters they have a really nice design on the sides but that design is missing entirely for male characters and I don't really see why. The pants are otherwise basically identical.

idk about the Quan... but I do know a Male Miqo/Au Ra/Elezen/Viera wearing the Neo-Ishgardian Top of Fending for females would look gorgeous.

On male characters, that design is smaller and moved to the front at the top.

I don’t know enough if it’s due to something in Vietnamese culture but I know that whole set is basically the Vietnamese Cultural Outfit and the pants seem to always be pure white anyway.

You’re also supposed to wear the whole thing together and I remember a Malaysian? Instagram model getting in trouble semi-recently for wearing it without pants, which seems to also be how I see many people wear the ao dai in the game…

I really want the goggles from the Cid outfit on the mogstation.

The rest of the outfit being gender locked? Fine...it stinks but I get it because it was designed for his model. The goggles though? Literally could work for anyone

I mainly just want more forehead goggle options though lol

the racial clothing in general tbh. when i was a miqo I liked the boots from the female miqos.

I especially love the viera outfits. Id love to wear both sets on my au ra
