I have every job at 90 at various gear levels - several nearing BiS for this raid tier and others around last raid tiers' BiS. I have plenty of room in my armory chest. Seems like a personal issue.
Yep. It's absolutely a personal issue and not putting enough thought into how to progress all jobs while not cluttering up the Armoury.
Keep your jobs levelled roughly in line with one another and you won't run out of armory space.
I mean, all of the healers can use the exact same sets from 60 to 90. You get enough poetics to buy a new set at each 10 levels, and level up each healer through that set, then buy the next one.
Only other thing you need to buy is a weapon, but there is plenty of space for that.
Everyone's calling it a personal issue but I don't think most people are going to be as organized as we are. Nor do I think people should have to be that organized.
I mean I made sure to level things in groups, but I can imagine if you just do whatever you feel like doing which is what most casuals are going to likely do, then yeah your armory would get cluttered really, really fast.
Every job gets a job-specific gear set per expansion. Put those in the glamour dresser and you'll never run out of space.
I do think they could've culled out some of the off-hand space to distribute when they last shuffled things. We've definitely got more space in there than we'll ever need.
Frankly, I'd even propose the off-hand slot be next on the chopping block if space becomes tight. What would be lost? Crafters and gatherers both could have the secondary gathering simply made into a trait or something. I don't even think there's any visual difference at all in the MIN/BTN off-hands, which you only ever see when they're gathering at relevant spots. And obviously FSH only has the one which will forever feel dumb.
Crafters, again, only ever see it if they're crafting a relevant item. For them, yeah, there is some visual variation. But I don't think it would really be much of a loss. Tie it to main-hand or level or something if you want it changing and looking different periodically. But really, does anyone ever actually glamour over any crafter off-hands? I'm not even certain that's a possibility..
That just leaves Paladin shields that they'd probably have to design a dedicated glamour slot to. There'd be too much pushback if they forced everyone to always use a matched set of main/off-hand. But. Since they don't really have a precedent, probably no certain easy way to make shields purely glamour. Hard to say how well they could design such a system.
(technically also have to take into account ARR WHM/BLM using shields as well... but I don't really think that would add too much complication..)
In summation, PLD is probably the only reason we still have the off-hand slot taking up space. Kinda a shame, after all these years and all the expansions, they've never designed another new job that uses it.
Make new gear go into your inventory not armory chest
trust me, it made a massive difference in my storage. No more garbage cluttering my armory chest and i can get rid of what i dont need easier
Uh...I hate to break it to you, but as a casual player currently running an alt who's doing the omni90 run legit, I never had to put in as much effort into inventory management, especially with my armoury. Never had the issue.
That being said, more space is always A-Ok in my book, not gonna debate whether they should or shouldnt increase capacity size. Just that inventory management was never a problem, and I'm not one to be meticulous about organizing.
I think this is what most people forget out here in internet land. This board is full of people dedicated enough to the game and organized enough to be posting here. It is not representative of the game in general.
If you examine someone out in the world you probably won't see: 90, 90, 90, 90, 85, 80, 80, 80, 80, 80...
You're MUCH more likely to see: 27, 58, 90, 73, 12, -, 87, 90, 22, 43... and those people can run out of space, especially for rings, VERY quickly.
I inspect people's gear quite a bit, mostly in dungeons.
I have rarely ever seen mismatched gear beyond the early levels. Most people seem to stick to on-level gear in all slots. The one exception is rings. I think new players get a level 1 ring with an XP boost, and they all wear that.
Most of the armory chest slots have space for 35 items, enough space to hold one item for each of the 31 jobs in the game with four spaces left over. The ring slot is the only one that doesn't quite have enough space, but even then, it has enough for 25 jobs. And that's all assuming none of your jobs share items…
If you find yourself running out of space, remove the items that are no longer being equipped by any of your jobs. They can be stored elsewhere, like the glamour dresser, or simply discarded via your favorite means.
Spoken like someone who only deals with combat classes. :D
To those fighting or just feeling uncomfortable with the opinions of the more organized out there: It's really not that complicated.
Pay a little attention to your gear as you level up.
Don't level up too many different types of jobs at once.
Little things like this help from running into that overwhelming sense of running out of space.
Level DOH together. Level DOL together. Keep either path separate from the others. If you have crafters at all different levels across different tiers, that's gonna mess you up.
Imagine properly managing your inventory
If you want to level all your jobs without overcrowding your bags, think of it as leveling gear classes (Aiming, Fending, Casting, etc., alongside Gathering and Crafting), not jobs, and probably level only few DoW/DoM sets at a time.
If you're going to level Gathering and Crafting, by all means, do that all together, but stick to just a couple among Fending, Healing, Casting, etc. For the latter, get each job in the armor class to the next poetic tier in whatever order, get that set, get each to the next again.
All but the last poetic set you can dump as soon as all jobs are done with it; any new jobs will start from there anyways, so gear prior to that (80 now, for next expansion's jobs) will be of no use.
I get it, there's enough space and all that but man inventory management is not fun. GC gear turn in being so outdated is not helping either.
Gotta desynth it all.
That is how I got rid of any old dungeon gear that I outleveled.
having an alt with only a few classes but with a massive level disparity on them, it really can get bad for Armoury Chest space until you're at max level. though I could probably make better use of my retainers on the alt, but that's neither here nor there.
I'm pretty sure if they gave us 1000 additional inventory slots, people would still find a way to stack everything and complain: "Not enough inventory!"
You should be glad this game gives you more inventory slots than the other MMOs combined.
It is not, literally. You have MORE THAN ENOUGH space for having a gearset for every job, crafter and gatherer in your arsenal for which it was actually made. Just cause you can't keep your arsenal clean doesn't mean you need more space. It's time to stop being a hoarder pal, the lvl 1 weapons that are clogging up your arsenal can be thrown out...i know it's hard but you will feel free afterwards!
Considering they had to get rid of belts to give us a few more spaces for the AC, I don't think it is something they can easily do if they did want to give us more space.
I'd like more housing inventory space to put more outdoor items into my small house garden xD but back to the topic, yeah best way to free up space is to give off all the excess armor that you're not using to your GC, desynth it or go to the Doman Enclave and free it up while making some gil.
