Suggestion to wait to add another job

While I do understand that a new job is a hallmark, and perhaps even a selling point, of a new expansion, I think we should until 7.X to add a new job.

I love this game, and with all due respect to the team, I appreciate that they do their utmost to try and give us the best experience they can. However, I do not think that the 2-minute burst window and current direction of job design will survive long-term.

It gets increasingly stale the more we play with it, as it results in jobs feeling same-y, and leaves little room to design jobs in their own fashion aside of their own aesthetic.

I have only been playing the game since a little before Stormblood released. While Shadowbringers combat wasn't inherently bad, and had some good job adjustments(nin for example). It feels there was a lot that got unnecessarily removed in part the big streamlining and homogenization when there could have been other paths to take. (some jobs more than others)

The big examples being tanks and healers. I'll mention the things I'm most familiar with.

Tanks are overglorified dps since enmity management was removed (I would rather it be a personal responsibility, not so much as it was everyone's before). Enmity management, if flawed at the time, at least made tanking feel rewarding. You were tanking, rather than the person who just came in with a button that makes your role icon blue instead of red.

Drk's kit since ShB has been a shadow of its former self. you press living shadow and forget about it, you don't even need to pay attention to darkside because flood/edge is in your rotations and there's no ability that costs darkside. DA is now proc based and damage neutral at best.

Honestly, we've seen enough healer rampages to know what the complaints are and they're likely to turn up in this thread. I agree with the large majority of them.

Kaiten is gone. healers having a bit more dps buttons in their kit is gone. DA and darkside might as well not exist and DRK, despite having absurd burst dps feels shallow. Enmity management and stance dancing, for better or worse, is gone. I've been seeing a lot of flavor go in favor of simplifying most jobs down instead of merely improving upon what's there and going from that.

Simplification is not always a good thing. I think we should take a step back and have the jobs' combat we have now be worked on and modified where needed first before having another job released, because the direction it is going I don't feel is a good one for the longevity of battle content. Not every job or role has to be for every person.

I wish I could give you more than one like cause, THIS is what I desire. I hate the fact that every job in a role feels like a cookie-cutter copy of each other outside of their own aesthetic and 'job mechanic'! this is why I love Blue Mage and the concept of Limited jobs so much because they are limited in such a way that it actually allows them to have more freedom to be refreshingly unique. and I also agree, and hate, how brain-numbingly simplistic the jobs are now, if it wasn't for the story I'd have left the game before End Walker and stayed with FFXI, But I like the stories, so I'm sticking around for now.

Honestly yeah, either don't add new jobs and rethink the balancing, encounter and overall design of the jobs so they all are deeper again.
Or even delay release.

I agree, they need to fix the stuff theyve already created rather than focus on the short term to drive profits but looking at how SE operates these days... I'm not so sure theyd do that. They're a profit over quality company nowadays. The golden age of squaresoft is dead in the water

Maybe a good compromise could be adding just one new dpser job for 7.0, and the resources that a second one would take being redirected to work on old jobs.

As long as they can shift more focus on the jobs we already have I'm for it. Since balancing the jobs is already becoming harder as is, I'm fairly certain the time for when they add only one job per expansion is soon either way.

People forget that there's nothing more damaging than when devs decide to fix things that aren't broken; this is what causes many of the job balance issues we have in the first place.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind delaying new standard jobs, if only to avoid worsening the current balance between jobs. I just don't want to see yet more unnecessary job revamps done purely for the sake of changing things. I would love to see more limited jobs introduced, however, because limited jobs would have more creative potential imo.

Alas, in a game with vertical progression, stuff needs to change because at some point (sooner for some jobs, later for others) there's going to be a brick wall, either a design or bloat one (or maybe both).

It's hard to maintain such kind of mmorpg with future proof content unless they invest in horizontal progression systems, but that is a pretty big structural change.

Personally I hate this sort of rhetoric that implies removing features is doing the playerbase a favour in the name of a vague concept of balance.

New jobs are one of the biggest selling points of an expansion, If we start axing them then we may as well cancel the MSQ too since we apparently can't trust the Devs to meet the standards they have set for the playerbase

I mean, that's quite the extreme comparison. At least if they held off on jobs we would still have the story and rest of the expansion to go through.

That said, this isn't really a common sentiment I had proposed anyway. I think even just one job per expansion would ease up a lot. Which all things considered is either going to start in 7.0 or 8.0 predictably. They can't really keep going on two forever at the current rate, but if they keep with it anyway all the power to them.

I wasn't entirely advocating for just gutting adding any job for the expansion either, just to wait. They could add one during the patches per se. Ninja was added in 2.4 after all. That's a bit of an unfair comparison too though, given 2.0 was an entire new MMO launch

I can see them dropping down to 1 job instead of 2 for future expansions, but I don't see them releasing an expansion without a new job. That's too much of a selling point for them.
