Am i the only one disappointed in the criterion series rewards?

Content is fun, think everyone agrees on it. Format works, though the savage version could use some improvement, so i wanna see it again but this seems so much like a missed opportunity on its rewards.

Why not make this a means to speed gearing for people that are late? For people already at bis, it means they can get alt jobs geared and the content is alive for longer; for people that aren't bis or just started progging, its a means to gain a fast track to prepare for the next ultimate, get glamour, etc.

I don't even mean the actual savage pieces btw, just using the books to convert them into savage books would already be massive, even if on a 2:1 ratio, since that means a drop in 1 to 2 weeks of waiting for a specific piece..

I'm honestly glad it's not another weekly loot grind wheel, we have enough of those. That said I would love it if it gave something like 520 gear to make it less hoops to jump through to get a flex role up and ready for criterion dungeons themselves.

Mostly similar beats to what's been said:

• I think it's good content
• The rewards could/should definitely be better
• I also don't want a weekly lock out (at least not like savage raids) that would divide the playerbase (like savage raids...)

No. A few people have expressed the same opinion in the forum.

I wish it gave gear towards progressing its own content(savage). 625 ILVL gear would have been perfect. Having a unique gearset also would have been nice.

Is true that the rewards, in the Criterion ones, do not fit the challenges. But I do like the direction. Getting back to dungeons instead of terribly boring paths with no decisions to make.


On that point, decisions, why can we only have one ability in Criterion and we cannot even choose which one?

Fun is decisions per second. Having only one set ability is the opposite of fun. Especially when you get healers that do not heal. (Which sadly seems to be the norm).

I’m honestly disappointed with the criterion dungeon rewards. At the very least these dungeons should provide some kind of savage gear progression options. Having smaller scale savage mode dungeons is definitely a great idea, but not going to prog something for a throne that looks like cheaply crafted home decor.

I want to meet the person that rolls out of criterion savage and uses their reward book to buy a single quickarm materia X.

wait so all I've been doing so far is suffer through PF lottery to progress far enough to actually get to the 3rd boss, and start learning the mechanics - only to get a chair for a mount? Aside from maybe getting some materia out of it? Ya the rewards are pretty meh. I don't really feel the need to do the content after beating it.

Great great content. But rewards aren't worth the grind. They can at least give us one of the moonshines to upgrade our 620 gear to 630. Or let us get 1 piece of ilvl630 gear of our choosing every 4 weeks. The main reason why most players do hard content is for the rewards. There's also no incentive to keep doing these savage raids in the long run.

Not everything needs to exist to gear players to do savage raid tiers. And some people actually do just do challenging content because they want to, and not for the rewards.

Same. It's weird to me that people won't do content because they looked up the reward and decided it's not worth it. If it's fun I'll play it. The reward is just the cherry on top but not a requirement. If I'd be doing it for the reward only I'd question my motives (or I would burn out quickly). That being said, a good reward sure is nice.

You're wrong, if there is no cool looking reward or power gain, he majority of players have no reason to do a piece of content more than once, or at all.
They could have simply added a twine or moonshine to upgrade tome gear (one per week) or something.

I regularly do content in the game simply because I like doing it. Back in HW for example, I kept doing the Alexander raids over and over even when I couldn't get anything out of them because I liked them so much.

The reward for doing the really hard content, should be the fact that you enjoyed doing the content.

I'm not 'wrong'. I just feel differently. I'm more of a way than destination kind of person. I play for fun and discovery. I'd still play VD if it had no rewards since solving a puzzle is my reward.

That's pretty much my sentiment. WoL or Alex I do for the music and atmosphere alone. It's a shame that the ilvl creep ruins many a good fight but that's neither here nor there.

well I for one stopped trying coz I cba doing content for all of ONE quickarm materia, no matter what these limsa dwellers above are pretending to advocate. I genuinely thought there'd be some meaningful reward for spending hours upon hours progressing and reprogressing with PF roulette. Materia and a chair mount? Are you kidding xD Also, apparently the "savage" version is exactly same - except there is NO res. So basically if you want the same model chair only in gold and TWO materias, you can't die . LOL no thanks.

The dung itself IS fun. but I cba doing it for nothing. There's no fun in doing hard content for no (EDIT: inadequate) reward. Except if you're a pretentious weirdo claiming to do otherwise.

Althought I did enjoy the dungeons, I keep wondering what the point of those diamond thing is.

There are tons of chests lying around but as far as I noticed, unless it is from the bosses, it's always those crappy diamonds. There are useless, so what's the point ? Would have been nice to put different things in there.

They could at least reward like a set of materia instead of one to ease the gil hit for remelding between jobs withn roles

Exactly. When I found that one NPC in Old Sharlayan who gave a mystery reward (just a leveling ring coffer if I remember correctly) that sent you on a scavenger hunt, my partner and I had a blast running around, dissecting NPC dialogue, and solving puzzles to find the right people to talk to. The reward was basically nothing but even still now almost a year later we still think back to that and wish there was more puzzle content because the prize is solving it, not a bauble at the end.

I feel like all of the people complaining about the rewards never noticed the Criterion mount is able to be sold on the marketboard :).

I made hundreds of millions of gil selling them to impulsive people, which is honestly a pretty good reward.

Wasn't it a long held complaint that there was no need for capped item level outside of savage? That there was nothing to do after you finished the raid? If this is meant to fill that role, I think demanding gear progression from it is silly. Criterion was never advertised as an alternative gearing path and we already have catch up content.

That means you already managed to find at least two of them. Consider yourself a lucky lil imp.

It’s valid if your goal of doing a hard content is just for fun.
It’s also valid if your goal of doing a hard content is for the loot.
There’s no need to invalidate how other people’s thoughts

However, no one can deny the fact that the reward of the criterion dungeon is not motivating to most players. A glamour earring that is barely noticeable, a banner, a mount that needs 100 silver coins which can also be bought from MB. To work for that you would need to spend hours of progging to clear the content, which is on the equivalent level of progging to clear a savage fight. The fact you only get to exchange a single piece of grade 10 materia from doing the savage version is the most insulting thing ever.

When you have a bad reward system, it turns down majority of player’s desire to do it, especially you have to spend hours and hours. Before the patch dropped, I have reached out at least 10 friends with different raiding backgrounds to do the criterion together (in different groups ofc). On the patch day, 2 people dropped immediately because they thought the loot was garbage. 3 days later, half of them dropped because they lost the interest. 1 week later, none of them wanted to continue any more.

Then I looked up on pf, there’s usually only 2 or 3 groups looking for members on Crystal, and usually most of them are on the first boss prog. Then the occasional 1 group which stated 3rd boss prog usually turns into 2nd boss prog. It is quite miserable because I do enjoy the fight designs of all 3 bosses, but it’s incredibly difficult to find people who are on the same prog as you to join.

Materia always seems overpriced to me, i kinda see he point of crafting&gathering materia, but there isnt really any source to buy them for currency anyway.

Sounds like you're really unsatisfied with the current savage loot system rather than criterion dungeons themselves, a sentiment I completely share.

I felt the same way before it was even released and called it. Been around long enough to know that any new type of content will release with inadequate rewards so that the core of the game is never shaken up. They make side content a short-lived distraction on purpose, keep maintaining the decade-old methods of gearing up and replaying those on a loop.

Yeah, i wish they tied them to relics or something, that way you actualy get to play the game and not watch unvoiced cutscenes with slapstick humor.

MMORPG's aren't the type of game a lot of people play for "fun", for that, this type of game is simply to slow, time consuming and in general tedious.

Yes i do have fun playing savage raids of the current content, but look around who does old savage content now unsynched or even with minimum ilvl ? maybe a handful of people of all the players.
MMORPG's are intrinsically rewards driven, be it player power, or rewards, mounts, cool armor or shiny weapons, if there is absolutely nothing to gain from an activity, pretty much no one will do it.
I actually tried multiple times to clear criteon but right now i gave up because nobody i ask cares for it and the party finder is also empty most of the time.
They need to find a balance between giving adequate rewards but not forcing people to play it over and over like other games do.
