Extreme levels of lag after 6.25 update

Hello

game has been unplayable since the patch dropped due to extremely high ping, 600ms+ now while the usual is 100ms.

this is only in Chaos/Light, connection to other data centers is normal, I tried everything save reinstalling the game -which I doubt would change anything-.

Anyone having a similar problem? any ideas?

I don't lag, 20 ms all time.

Terrible lags here too. Simple cannot play due to it. I'm currently frozen before an NPC I tried to talk to, cannot move, waiting for the game to launch the speech.

I'm on Alpha, Light, playing on PS5, with really good optical fiber connexion. And I'm having no issue anywhere else. ^^

Same issue here. My ping is usually between 115-120 but suddenly today it's jumped to around constant 500 and 600 ms. I can barely do anything right now.

I play on pc (steam version) and a wired connection.

I was very angry and suffering after changing servers from Europe to Japan without informing > my ping go from 88 to 210ms
today it's 500ms !? It's unbearable

Chances could be that the nodes your ISP routes you over to the game server coincidentically happen to be overloaded, which can cause massive packet loss and / or very high ping.

It is also important to note that consistent high ping IS NOT automatically your game doing weird stuttering, that is jitter - as in spikes of ping causing packet loss.

So unless you test your connection to the datacenter via Command Prompt using "tracert <IP of server>" or some program to scan your packet loss, you won't know where on your route you are being hit. It might not even be the FFXIV servers at all.

I'm not IT, but why my ping on overwatch 2 EU > 60ms and FFXIV EU > 500ms ?!

Having the same here for the last 12 hours, also Light servers.

Seems like an issue with one of the servers that are responsible for routing the connection to SE:

Using a german VPN uses a different twelve99.net routing where i get normal pings.
Seems like some servers that are used to route connections to SE are underperforming (twelve99/telia).

Spoke to my ISP as well which confirmed the same :/

Because of how your ISP routes you and how the route is likely affected.

Example from personal experience:

FFXIV routing (simplified):
1.) home (germany)
2.) isp location
3.) nodes germany
4.) nodes in sweden
5.) nodes germany
6.) Light Datacenter (germany)

Overwatch Routing:
1.) home (germany)
2.) isp location
3.) nodes germany (don't know how many)
4.) OW servers probably also in germany

Now, while routing between countries isn't an automatic problem, in my case with the swedish ports provided by Telia/Twelve99 I had massive hiccups to the point where I decided to get a VPN to stabelize my connection by rerouting my traffic to be within germany only. For such reason, I never had issues with OW(2) because the nodes chosen by the ISP to connect me to the game are stable and also within my country.

It is really a case-by-case process.

Experiencing extreme lag as well since the 6.25 patch was released. Constantly at 500-600 ms. I hope someone from SE is looking into this because the game is now really unplayable.

Im in EU chaos and I have the exact same issue, Ping the datacenter give me ~500ms, my friends on discord usually have ~30ms only.

The game is unplayble, too much lag, I often get disconnected or cannot talk to a npc.

Im in France, my ISP is bouygue telecom, maybe other bouygue subscribers have the same issue ?

Same problem here, everything was fine 13h ago, when I log on this morning, 550+ms with packet loss on both EU servers, tried to ping the Japan/Aus/US servers and had a stable 180-230 ms depending the server.

Tried the tracert command too, I can see several nodes where it fails to contact the host, and then high ping on the few last ones, so... should we expect SE to fix it since it happened just today because of a patch or do we have to do something on our side ?

Not really sure what we can do from our end. The only obvious change that happened is the 6.25 patch.

Same here, terrible lag since this morning. Was playing last night and everything was fine.

Nothing to do with Bouygues ISP, I hope SE will not point us in that direction. I am residing in the mid-east and am having this issue. This just started today as well for me.

Tracer route shows me that the first connection to my ISP is by far the worst but only while taking the path to communicate with EU servers, it's different if I try the Japan one for instance

Just created new characters in NA and Oceania. The game is playable on those DCs even with an average of 220 ms not like what I'm getting in EU now which is 600ms. Before this issue happened, it was 80-85ms.

Connecting to Chaos from the Middle East, I have been experiencing these same issues for the past 12-ish hours. The latency has made the game nigh unplayable with forced disconnections and disrupted weaponskill combos.

As previously mentioned in this thread, I used tracert and also experienced the same results where the latency is fine until the data packets reaches nodes associated with "Telia" and 'Twelve99" - wherein there is massive latency and packet loss. However, I do not believe the blame is on my ISP because connection to NA, JP and OCE DCs are as expected.

Square's EU server also seems to be associated with "Telia" (according to the name of their Chaos DC IP address that shows up when using tracert) so perhaps it is in their power to divert routes away from those afflicted servers or get into contact with them to fix their issues - any sort of response to say they are aware of this situation. The situation is made more frustrating because only a subset of players are being affected by it, whereas the NA crashes yesterday were promptly resolved due to major outcry.

In the meanwhile, all I can do is hope that this issue is temporary and their respective companies are already working on fixing their servers. Longterm, I do not wish to pay for an external VPN service just to access a subscription based game I've already purchased.

Yes, when this happened to NA yesterday, they fixed it immediately.

same here, its literally impossible to raid as a black mage, cant slidecast at all and my casts get interrupted even tho I'm not moving, and this had never happened to me before the update

Living in the middle east and having the same problem. Everyone please make sure that you're contacting customer support as well, it seems there is only a handful of us having this problem and we need to make sure SE knows that this is happening and it's on their side and hopefully they fix it asap.

figured it's a routing issue, so no way around it without a vpn sadly

The high latency issue is still going in Chaos Louisoix, I'm currently sitting at 265ms ping constantly, even thought my ping is lower in Light DC.

I'm raiding rn and I'm still having heavy lag spikes, pretty much unplayable since I cant even singleweave without clipping

Seems the connection is back to normal for me, Light - Phoenix ... in the mid-east. Been in-game for the last 30 minutes.... 90ms

latency is back to normal on my end as well, chaos ragnarok, very slight lag spikes but otherwise playable
hope it's better for everyone as well

I'm still experiencing lag in Chaos/Omega (i live in Italy).

vpn or wait it out, hopefully telia is fixed soon

Had terrible connection problems. Constant disconnects since 6.2... well 6.25 didn't help apperently. Please list me as officially being a moron paying monthly for this shit

The issue was fixed for me.
I've noticed that the routing has been changed for me now and the twelve99 server returning 300ms+ (62.115.142.128) is no longer being used to route me into SE servers.
I submitted a ticket to Telia last night about 62.115.142.128 under-performing as well, maybe they took it down idk.

@ItsSooryu - im getting normal pings (~70) from 80.239.195.85, which im being redirected through now.

The problem is still not solved 575ms here

For me it fixed, and back to 55ms back from 265ms, I'm hoping it get fixed for the rest as well, because raiding in over 200ms ping is truly painful.

Correction - twelve99 is just a different name from telia nodes.

Honestly this thread gives me some interesting insight about our situation with EU datacenters - knowing now that our datacenter hops actually are closely connected to telia, this strikes me as little surprise now.

Just some knowledge drop for those who care - I have Telekom (germany) as my ISP and generally, they were alright, however they have a bit of a history with the Swedish(?)/Finish(?) company Telia. Telia provides nodes for internet traffic, however when it came to who is supposed to finance the upgrade of the internet lines, it ended a bit in a stalemate between these two. So we got Telekom here who felt like "why should we upgrade your lines, this is your equipment" and Telia "you are having a massive contract with us, how about you spend a dime for once".

Yet for some reason they still are business partners. The one who suffers is the end consumer - us.

So yeah, Telia nodes (depending which ones you get routed through) tend to be overused. This was especially problematic when Covid was in full swing and every boomer and their mother went to watch netflix, congesting traffic.

Let's just say - your problems will return when Telia nodes get hiccups, which they happen to have frequently depending on congestion.
