Like any other MMO does, because players want to know what their powerlevel is.

First, it doesn't matter. The only stat where exact numbers matter is skill/spell speed, and that's already visible via CD reductions.

Second, it's a matter of perception. Stats scale based on level. That's why a level 50 in i130 and a level 80 in i530 have approximately the same crit chance, etc even though the 80's numbers are so much higher. That's great for keeping endgame balanced but it means that as you level your stats actually go down. A level 55 in that same i130 gear has less crit than the level 50. How bad would it feel to get a level up, open your menu, and see the number go down instead of up? Scaling the numbers but keeping them hidden lets them make it look like the numbers are still going up even when they're not. Player perception trumps all in situations like this.

You are correct that they hide them so people don't realize they +500 at 50 and +500 at 90 are not the same. However this has 2 major negatives that make your first statement false.

Firstly and for most not being able to see the effect the stats have MATTERS A LOT. It lets you know if the stat your melding or the gear you are getting is even gunna help you, cause in some cases going up 10ilvls and gaining the wrong stat is a dps loss. It doesn't need to go to the extremes of decimal places, that this mod does/websites do but it 100% matters so people can actually gear appropriately by knowing how the stats effect their job. A Large portion of players don't understand how stats work in this game and its because they have no way of tracking. I have to answer all the questions for static and fc members and help them gear and meld properly because we lack this basic thing most games have.
Secondly you are 100% wrong to say the only stat the exact numbers matters is SS. if your current crit is +100, and the next tier is at +112, and u can only make it reach +111 crit. Then you are putting all 11 of those crits are worthless and you are wasting other stats that would actually increase your damage. This matters even more when you go up the large steps as the gap in between gets bigger when you could be wasting a whole tier 10 or 9 materia.

Okay tell me which is more valuable for a tank, tenacity or determination without looking it up on the internet, simply by the information the game provides you.

It really doesn't matter, though. The difference between optimally melded BIS and BIS-except-full-Tenacity-melds is 1.469% on PLD, for example. Even without the external calculators we use to determine that, a newbie in game could see that Tenacity is "the tank stat" and fully meld it with no other information and they would only take about 9s longer to clear a 10 minute fight than someone with optimal gear. Such a difference does not matter to most people in most content, and even in Savage where it might seem to matter, "fix your rotation and mechanics handling" will always be the real thing that needs fixing.

9 seconds is a long time on close enrage timers in savage, most first kills happen during the final enrage cast, if the game was not so tight on dps it indeed would not matter, but it is not a choice, you must go maximum dps and the game doesnt show you this informations.
If it doesnt matter why dont you make all tanks meld Tenacity and all healers meld full Piety? right because you MUST go full dps.

The game isn't that tight on dps. Enrage wipes and enrage kills involved failed mechanics, bad rotations, or low IL. Fix mechanics, rotation, and IL before worrying about whether the tanks melded Tenacity.

You also chose tenacity as your example, which is the one stat that buffs pretty much everything, including damage. Like it was mentioned it you are racing an enrage timer that difference is clear or fail. Which is huge. esp if all 8 party members have the same issue of being off melded, and the more your rotation is off, the larger the impact of u being weaker is. If all 8 party members are missing 1.5-2%(not everyone has tenacity to help their dmg) of potential damage from melds alone that's 10%dmg your whole party is missing.

So simply put "it doesn't matter" because the difference between melding / choosing gear pieces is not significant enough to warrant having information displayed in the game of what is your:

• Critical Hit Damage
• Critical Hit Rate
• Direct Hit Rate
• Determination coefficient (damage, healing)
• Skill-/Spellspeed coefficient
• Tenacity coefficient (damage, mitigation, healing)
• Piety MP regen coefficient

To me, "it doesn't matter" is some trash level rhetoric to justify something not existing. Every single MMORPG will let you know what your % stats are and people were ok with it, yet in FFXIV we didn't have it and people just take it this way and actually try justifying it.

Getting to know your stats has literally no downsides and would be a welcome QoL addition for people gearing up.

Your math is way off the mark

If 8 people are all missing 1.5% damage. Then the party is only missing 1.5% damage as a whole..

If just the tank is missing 1.5% damage from melds then the whole party is missing. At most 0.1875% of its damage. (Not 100% accurate as this math is quickly based off a tank doing 12.5% of the party damage 100/8=12.5)

So stats don't matter. a ~0.2% variation is immeasurable due to the rng nature of crits directs latency etc

But in FF... There isn't something like "builds", it's either min-maxed or... Its not :P

Yes I'd like to see more in-depth stats but if they don't even matter really... Why bother? ^^

What I'd like to see are the so-called breakpoints: how much do I have to meld before I see any sort of non-zero benefit?
