Yes, no? why? :(
Oh hiya poyo \o/
would break the agreement with steam if they sold both versions to a single account, Steam would drop XIV from the store.
you can indeed own both version
you just cant play both versions with the same account
They don't want you to take advantage of the multiple sales on both sites and Steam wallet. Purely a business decision.
Makes me sad coz i have windows version and i want steam instead :(
You want the steam version?? Interesting. I wish I could switch from steam version to windows version :'D
May I ask, what is it about the Steam version that you want it over the Windows version? I guess maybe if you use Steam a lot and want the convenience of it in your list. I don't see how it would be much different.
I'll just put this here.

It's actually VERY easy to run FF14 on Steam Deck and yes, I am using my Windows FF14 account with the Steam version on my Steam Deck. FF14 runs beautifully, and I have even done hard raids with it like O12s MINE.
Yes, it IS a 3rd party loader, but hey, it works and works well with the whole proton trickery.
If you don't want to go this route, the only thing you can do is pretty much pay for 2 accounts. :-)
You can run FF XIV on the steamdeck without having the game on steam and it's quite the same. It's still "legit", steamdeck is a portable PC after all.
Thought I agree the performance are not quite the same...
I'm on Steam and... Yeah I join the others, it isn't great to be forced to log in Steam every time you want to open XIV.
You'll also lose flexibility and family won't be allowed to access your games while you're in XIV.
The steamdeck also have problems with physical keyboard that aren't QWERTY.
one, dont delude yourself into thinking that Steam is always up.. it isnt. there can also be mismatches between Steam and the SE servers so suddenly, you arent able to log in, Steam is up, FFxiv is up, but they are not playing nice together. also, if there is an issue, Steam wont help you, they say talk to SE, SE says talk to Steam, its really their connection issue... but miraculously, it gets resolved after many many angry comments to Steam...
two, paying through the SE site is far far easier and reliable. it goes through no third party. paying a subscription through Steam is a headache
I have not had excessive problem with Steam to be fair. but... if I could go back in time and have a version where I was not using Steam, I would. if I could buy a non Steam license and transfer my character, I would in a heartbeat just to get away from it. I am not alone in this. it is just easier to avoid Steam.
It is not gonna happen. Is it like buying something on Xbox and then want it on Playstation too, they might be on the same platform (PC) but are totally different platforms.
Now with that out of the way, if you have it on PC you can run it on the Steam deck or whatever. I love Steam but I always recommend to down depend too much on it, that's why I got it on "stand alone".
