Relic Sword: no enmity+ ? Please add it on SE!

I hate being forced to tank on WAR anymore. Not that WAR is no fun, but PLD is dear to me and I really want it to be the best tank again.

Relic Axe has enmity+50

Relic Sword/shield has no Enmity+.

Please add it in before it hits us SE! Otherwise I will be forced into making axe my first Relic and my inner PLD will die a little more.

We've had no issues with PLD tank ever since the hotfix a few weeks ago, try it out. We like it a lot better than WAR tank.

Curtana also has "Chance to Restore MP" on each hit, so that and the shield you probably won't be running out of MP anytime soon and can use a non-AF body piece. Also depending on how much Spirits Within damage is boosted, it might end up being more useful than straight +Enmity anyway since it's your best hate tool.

As a WAR, I say you can have my +50 enmity and they can give me another stat.

Not every WAR wants to tank and would rather DPS.

The fact Curtana has a 17 Base damage increase over Ifrit's Blade is a giant increase to our damage output which might overshadow any amount of +Enmity they would/could place on the sword. Bravura only gets +8 over the Ifrits Axe and no damage bonus to any weaponskills so our damage output might be a bit more comparable to WAR's at least. Anywho, I somewhat recall some talk about making the upgrades a bit more customize-able so it might change down the road.

the +40 accuracy is enough to help continue constant damage and keep enmity

I think its the basic idea that pisses me off behind the reason why WAR weapon has +enmity. I'm really confused why does SE give +enmity stats for WARs because WARs can do enough dmg to keep hate without having tons of +enmity in their gear. I'm a Paladin to my soul and my heart and I want to see my favourite Job to shine again as the main tank of the game. SE just seems to be doing it kinda hard.

Personaly, I have no difficulties in keeping hate as a Paladin. But it's just the "Giving goodies to WARs, give crap to PLD" thing that is going on that I don't like. Maybe I'm just overreacting and I'm sorry about it. It's good to let some thoughts about this out, right? :D

Id' just love to know what materia is needed to progress in the quest.

You guys have some decent points, with increased accuracy and damage, plus the insanely low delay, it might make PLD more effective because they cause more damage.

I like to think that I am pretty good at both WAR and PLD, but the way it is now I cant choose PLD if its a DPS race.

Enmity+ procs on any hate-generating ability. Between Antagonize, voke/flash, and Collusion, my WAR will keep DPS under control much better than my PLD with a PT Rampart.

Thing is, with the way battles have been evolving, I dont see us having a "stand still and take it in the face" fight where you can let loose with all your WS and such. Miser is moving around a lot, and sometimes I have to stand out of range so the MNKs are in range but nopt in the pool, and I keep breath turned away.

CoinCounter I barely hit AT ALL cuz I am always ready to dodge his swings.

Garuda jumps around EVERYWHERE.

Barely hit moogles at all through phase 2.

Chimera...yea u stand and hit it.

My point is Id rather take a passive bonus to the hate generated by everything I do, not just dmg. A lot of times you can only give that quick hate spike before they disappear or run out of range. For the quick hate spikes I see WAR as the clear winner still. We might remedy that by making our vokes/flashes etc more effective, the way antagonize or enmity+ gear does.

spirits within boost along with the HP increase and not having to wear accuracy rings anymore is going to boost your enmity ceiling imensly, I agree for trash mobs its not much improvement but we already have that covered with flash/rampart.

The Curtana does not need Enmity on it. It's a damn good weapon just the way it is.

You could argue that the increased spirit within damage is a straight up enmity boost every 60s anyway. Think about it for awhile.

Aye I think some are missing some of the finer points to the finished product.

+40 Acc= Allows you to equip STR/MND/VIT Rings instead of Electrum, and trade out Acc Materia on hands for STR/MND/Atk/Block or whatever meaning bigger potential damage and negation overall. Not to mention the better Acc also means you have better hit% contributing to bigger damage numbers over time but also more hate over time.
+120 HP= Bigger safety net for oh shit moments, better potential Spirits Within Damage.
+15 Healing Pot.= Heal better, pretty underwhelming overall but still useful to us.
Increase Spirits Damage= As Grey said, Increased damage means more Enmity for us especially worked off a combo.
+Base Damage= People underestimate just how significant the base damage of a weapon can vastly increase damage, +17 over Ifrit's Blade is astronomical and other weapons (save the bow) roughly get 10 or less base damage over their Ifrit counterparts. This will have quite an astonishing effect on the amount of damage we will be able to produce which in turn equals much greater Enmity overall.

As for the Shield it itself is solid, who's going to argue any sort of MP restoration and the +25 Defense, better block rate, and better block is just gravy for us in general.

Summed up I think SE went the right route when designing this blade for us, many have argued that most of our hate comes from abilities, but often ignore that our damage output has a significant part in it too (when coped with combo's mind you). With the Curtana tackling most of the more immediate DD issues it makes an excellent standalone weapon, in turn it allows us to be more flexible with our setups and if we so choose we could spec our defensive set without worrying about the offensive as much, or allow us to be just that much more offensive if we choose to take the damage dealing route (which PLD IS equipped to do so, however low damage weapons and lower STR/MND does set us back in comparison to dedicated jobs.)

I have to admit, at first I felt the PLD stuff was very underwhelming. Looking deeper into it though, I have to agree with what most people in this thread are saying in that it's a very well thought set for PLD.

The Curtana and Holy Shield are actually one of the best Relic(s). Holy Shield is still one of the best shields (if not the best) just by having the highest block value and block rate, which is a rather large damage reduction.
