Chimera - Voice of the Dragon

hello everyone.

since 1.22b our group is having a little problem of finding a new save spot to not get hit from VotD.

i usually tank chimera against a wall, while mages and brds stand in the middle.
while the whms sometimes got hit by the voice the BLMs were save the whole time.

today we tried some different positions.blms at walls, different positions in the middle, but we just can't find a good one.

any of you guys tried CC lately and got an idea how to actually evade this attack?

Obliusly, then you have chaotic chorus to deal with. Also, fuck ranged, go melee

Just keep stoneskin up on the mages at all times.

this makes no sense to me anymore, why did they have to change votd in the first place?

Maybe cause it never was the Idea behind the fight to have such a safe place? Maybe to weaken ranged stacking?

well, any suggestions on how to do it without BLMs then?
Chimera already has a ton of dangerous attacks, and to add up to that, traps everywhere near him after the 25% mark, which makes the life of a tank hard without constant healing.how should more than 3 close range DD's survive that?

actually, melees from chimea after you incapacitate tail don't have dangerous moves. They get hit only from chaotic chorus (low damage) and voice of the ram (one curaga and gtfo). The real menance are pits, wich are avoidable making attemption

wow, it sounds like you guys all do it differently than my group. We have everyone but the tank and DD stand against the far wall in a little nook that's kinda to the right as you first enter. WHMs stand at the front of the nook, and the BLMs at the back. It's perfectly safe. As long as everyone is in the right spot, the only one that ever gets hit by any of chimera's attacks is the tank and DD. In that spot, chimera gets tanked in the left corner facing the far wall (as you enter).

Our pt setup is usually something like this for chimera:

1 Tank
2 WHM
1 BRDs
3 BLM
1 any job

Have you tried this since last night's patch, Molly? That sounds like how we position our mages, too, but we haven't tried CC last night or today to see if that is still safe.

I like this thread.
People shouldn't be upset about this. It was an obvious problem that needed to be fixed with the fight. Now all we have to do is figure out the new trick to defeating him.

Today, after we did all the new patch stuff, we returned to CC and found out that SE totally ruined our strat. We tried different spot combinations for hours but didnt work out a good one... Tho we got some wins, we didnt manage to get one single speedrun. Maybe its just the first frustration but we decided to do some AV tomorrow lol

But I basically agree with SirOleas. Theres new stuff to find out.

and yea, as aveline said, did you test it ever since 1.22b hit? i tried it with a similar position just that the whole thing happened on the left wall, but mages still got hit.

The groups I have gone with still use no melee other than the tank. They still use WAR, brd, 2 whms and the rest blms. I dont have an issue with it and not sure why others do.

well someone already found a new strategy or already know if there is any safe spot since the patch :D?

There is no safe spot. Just treat it like Ifrit and run when he cast VoD or bring melee that knows how to avoid moves, you want at least 1 MNK to incap the tail so it doesnt use sting.

yes, dragon kick.
There isn't an incap for heads too ?

We usually just run out, You can make the WHM run in, but the BLMs can definitely run out because they have longer range. Yes it is dragon kick to incap tail, only have about 3k-4k hp, very easy to incap by a single MNK.

Also incap heads is spiritswithin, i am not sure what it does though.

Chardrizard do you have any video uploaded or any picture so i can see how u do this, well i understand your strategy but it would make it alot easier if i can see the battle aswell :)

Yeah, just like that. And no, I hadn't done it since the patch, which is really why I mentioned our spot to see if anyone that uses that strat had tried. Tonight will most likely be the first time since then, so I'll let my group know they need to move.

If you keep stoneskin up you can survive it but sometimes hes an ass and does it twice in a row. It has a significant charge up time so if blms are at the farthest casting range you can just move back a little and still avoid it.

If you bring PLD tank, BLMs can afford to go THM to help with stoneskins bc hate wont really be issue with PLd tank.

But then they can't convert and keep nuking :(

Yes, i am sure they can't convert and keep nuking if they are dead laying on the ground.

Ok i worked up quick image illustrating what i meant, hopefully its clear enough, clink on URL for bigger image. Chimera will only able to cast VoTD when his dragon eyes turns blue, so pay attention to that.

our party has nothing change tank same spot , whm & blm same spot just that blm is in the max cast range and the thunder will stuck down in front of them without hitting them

correct me if i am wrong but, blm has a larger range then whm, so how can they be on the same spot? because the healing range =/= the same range like the blms Oo?

When was the last time u did Chimera because VoD hits even at max cast range now, unless you have been lucky and VoD just never casts on your runs.

been doing it alot even after the patch. thing is to be alert. keep stone skin up for safety. it usually start voice at the back part of the fight when it hp drop lower. Voice range has been extended yes. but it now requires you to be either mroe mobile or keep stoneskin up. Going nearer helps avoid it. you do be in chorus range then though. usually we pay attention to the battle log, and move accordingly. me playinga s bard have to go near here and there for quick nock anyway :D. I think some of us ran far out of casting range when see voice appear, while some of us including me move in close to chim. just keep up the pace and alertness at that last part and should be fine. it wouldn;t do too many voice anyway. =p.

Thus, no mindlessly spam at 1 spot and expect to be safe :D.

Tank position in the map is south-east while blm is in south west
blm is in max cast range VoD will not hit don't even have to move ( if blm step forward just 1 single step it will hit)
but yes i forgot to say that whm will have to run
since whm cast range will not reach tank if they stay at exact same position as blm
so whm is stay a little bit further than blm and will be hit with VoD

Alright listen up.

The fight can be done exactly the same. The only difference is that the Black mages and Bards need to stand where the White Mages usually stand. You won't get hit by Voice of the Dragon but you will get drawn in by Chaotic Chorus. Just run back when he draws you in.

Simple as pie.

If you are a BLM you can actually stand outside of the casting range, it is very, very, very precise though.
