Monk and Samurai Action suggestion

Hi SE,

I'm writing because I'm suggesting that monk gets a range attack as it's the only melee job that doesn't have range which forces monk to lose uptime in certain boss mechanics. Also I'm writing to suggest either reducing samurai gap closer (Hissastu: Gyoten) kenki amount from 10 to 5 or giving Hissastu: Gyoten 2 charges and increasing the cooldown from 10 secs to maybe 15 or 20 seconds.

Looking forward to seeing if these suggestion get implemented in a future patch.

Boss hit boxes are so massive these days I don’t think anyone needs upgrades to gap closers and even if we argued that they did need some form of gap closer six sided star is meant to be MNK’s because it slows down the GCD in order to allow you to leave the boss and then come back

If anything I’d nerf NIN’s ranged potential then actually force melee downtime to justify their massive damage

Could you be a bit more precise about those mechanics where you lose uptime?

I can see a few pattern but they don't result in more than 3 GCDs per encounter if you play safe.
And 3GCDs won't make your DPS drop.

I don't think there's a reason for further buffs to the two strongest dps at the moment.

MNK does have a limited ranged attack with Enlightenment. The skill could be updated to allow increased range and I don't see too much of an issue with that. It would still remain a Chakra skill, but having access to Enlightenment as soon as one Chakra is obtained could be a favorable update to the gauge wherein the potency increases with gathered Chakra.

As for SAM, they acquire Kenki so quickly that the cost of Gyoten is pretty moot. Skills that consume charges are typically not tied to gauges and are a self reliant resource. It's not a bad idea as might as well remove Kenki management entirely at this point for SAM.

I don’t see a need for this it’s a unique quirk of the job and as a result we get privileges like our amazing movement tool and mit for a melee

Hi there, I understand that some bosses does have a big hit box but that doesn't neglect the fact that when you are not using any weapon skills or casting abilities (GCDs) or even oGCDs. It's a loss of uptime and it affects the cooldowns of GCDs of the rotation after that. It's a huge factor when it comes to raiding and extreme dungeons. Ranged attack on melee can also help with certain mechanics where adds or some form object that you need to burst down while stacking with a party at a range. MNK will lose out on this. I hope you can understand this.

Hi there, could you explain to me how does missing 3 GCDs increase your DPS please? As fair as I know if you are not rolling your GCDs or actions. You are losing DPS when fighting a boss which has a specific enrage timer.

MNK doesn't need a ranged attack because functionally that is what Meditation is for. If anything outside of NIN, Monk is probably the melee that is most prepared for disconnects, it has the tools to be as greedy as it wants.

Monk can need it, because meditation has a long CD.

Best example the mob Boss from the new ini.
They create multiple times aoes, where the monk can not hit them. Other meele has distance attack to attack in the waiting phase. The monk can use meditation to hold up his skills (or open up his chakra). But can not attack in this time.

I had it multiple times, that i hated it, that i wasnt able to attack and needed to wait. And the samu can use the cap closer for attacking faster the enemy, after this waiting phase. Or, in some Story fights, where the Boss move very fast to a corner and create a aoe (like venat).

Monk has a gap closer, too. It's called Thunderclap. No damage. But it puts you in range to attack and Monk attacks faster than a SAM does.

I would argue that Six-sided Star is already the cleverest "range" attack among all melees. It covers two gcd and gives you a speed buff. This skill alone shows that devs understand the proper way for a melee to greed. You hit and run, deal with AOE within one GCD and hit your next GCD.
I doubt they would give MNK another completely superfluous range attack.
