The Rising 2022

The Rising approacheth (August 27 - September 12) and people are probably going to appreciate the minion we get from it.

Forgive my ignorance, but since this event is new to me and the lodestone page doesn't elaborate on what exactly this event is (only to obtain the Quest from the Wandering Minstrel), could someone tell me something how this has played out in past years?

Last year it gave us a bit of event quest fluff and a cutscene where you talk with the wandering minstrel for a bit.

It's an event to celebrate the anniversary of ARR, in the past they've teased red mage and I believe samurai in the various event NPC dialogues.

It's an annual special event acknowledging the relaunch of the game and the shutdown of the original (hence it takes place on the date ARR launched in 2013) - in universe it's to remember all the lives lost in the Seventh Calamity and provide continuing hope to Eorzea (and Hydaelyn's) people for the future. Gameplay wise it's often self-referential and fourth-wall breaking, and a spoiler,

usually ends with Naoki Yoshida himself personally appearing in game and breaking down the fourth wall to thank you the player yourself personally for your continued support of the game.

It's generally considered one of the most popular special events in the game. :D

As for the reward for this year's one, all I can say is, it's about time! (Now all we need is his characteristic 'dismisive handwave' as an emote and then all will finally be right with the world again. :D).

having that one as a minion though pretty definitively means his role in the story is now concluded as that's what yoshi-p's always said about enemy antagonist characters becoming minions. might be disappointing for some expecting to see more of him in later story. lol

Not a lot in rewards this year is there as it's just the Emet-Selch minion. Though they will of course sell the fireworks and so on.

Note it says "solus" and not emet-selch. Yknow, the originator of the empire that got destroyed off screen. lol

Anyone else notice the angle for the miqo'te makes them looks like a hyur with the eye marks?

I know the (our)left ear kind of juts out ever so slighty, but given the unkempt hairstyle it just looks like more messy hair. Not complaining. Just found it amusing.

Yep, first thing I noticed, I was wondering why he had no ears!

I really do like how "Solus" looks sufficiently grumpy

That might just be to prevent some massive spoilers, since the quest is available to anyone past level 15.

I'm not exited! You're the one exited. Oh who can I kid? I wonder if it will interact with a certain other minion and they fought. Like grandpa and Bahamut do. Might have to haul this minion around for some time.

Kinda weird that that shitstain is the reason behind why the Rising event is even a thing yet here we are getting a minion of it during the time when Eorzeans are meant to be remembering the events of the Seventh Umbral Calamity lol.

That is actually already available - it's been available for sale on the Mogstation for a while now (it's quite common to see people using it in class change macros ;)).

Two additional things beyond the in-game event that has already been discussed:

1. We get a new set of the "Tales From..." short stories posted on the Lodestone, which go into character mindsets or background events to the story.

2. There is usually some kind of sale on the Mog Station. Sometimes it's 30% off store-wide, sometimes it's just on the online-exclusive items, sometimes they'll also have a half-price sale on the "upgrade to digital collector's edition" item packs. They haven't announced anything for this year yet, but don't go buying anything this week unless it's from the current summer gear sale.
