the reason why we don't get more crazy hairstyles is because the game is built to only properly handle certain styles.
With the glam's some people have been using lately I just had this horrible image of the future where everyone is running around in pink atomic afros and thongs.
SE gave up on releasing /fixing long hairs , they clip tru everything. I actually feel bad for those poor people who bought Lyse outfit just for that hair.
This game is already a clipping fiesta. Half the chestpieces in XIV clip horribly with my tail. Half the hairstyles will go though chestpieces with a high collar. Target a boss and you'll slice through your own nape with the GNB stance. A ton of sheathed weapons will clip through various pieces of gear. etc
What they need to give up on is the pretense that clipping was ever something they really cared about in the first place.
Yup. And on top of that, most of the new hairstyles are either neutral in gender or lean completely on the feminine side.
It gets very tiresome just not truly being able to get excited for a hairstyle because of the lack in variety that we're given.
Clipping is the reason this game can run on a potato. A very important aspect to have as it makes the game accessible for almost everyone. Collisions will make the game a lot heavier. And checking each piece to avoid clipping is a lot of work (and essentialy impossible to fully fix).
But what i would like is the option for most gear to use use physics engines in which collisions are able to move the clothing. And hair can collide. It might need a lot more work per piece to make this (although for newer pieces this might become part of the standard workflow), but its something i would be willing to pay for to have. And as side effect this can also do a few more subtle details, as for example in windy areas, its very clear robes always just use the same animation. With proper physics you can make this more dynamic (and since it still only needs to rely on client side data, it would increase server load at all).
The only downside with collisions and physics is that sometimes the gear might get some very strange angles (especialy when classes have fast and extreme movements), which then still needs clipping to happen in order to return it to the normal location.
The majority of this game's hairstyles are ugly and out there. You can choose whatever
they can't even be arsed to do viera and hrothgar hair correctly
If they implemented Nvidias Hairworks , or AMDs Tress FX the game would run terribly having to render random amounts of players on screen at any time . At best they would have to limit the feature to be visible/enabled just for the player character only and even then it wouldn't stop clipping as hair physics is still limited to looking more like individual strands and not randomly flowing over random armour designs .
That level of physics would be taxing enough in a single player game designed around a limited hair style and character outfit ( take AMDs tress FX and Tomb raider for example), and an almost impossible task for a game of this age to feature despite the massive performance hit it would cause
